fortunately, things are changing for the better now - i understand some places in india ... women may not have the choice to not fast but overall things are changing now

most women don't fast and those who choose to fast do it out of their own choice

and some women don't mind fasting for a day

if you don't want to fast that's your choice but don't put other people down for wanting to fast

that's like finding a woman with a burkha regressive when she chooses to do that out of her own choice

Wives keeping fast can't extend the life span of their husbands. It only gives benefits to the women keeping the fast.

Umm do you also realize that some people keep it out of love only?

My in-laws are punjabi but they don't really celebrate anything and are not religious at all. So them or my husband could care less if I kept it or not. My MIL doesn't keep it either.

But I keep it because I love it! I saw my mom doing it and I always found it so beautiful.

So now I do the fast (no one ever asked me to, in fact my MIL was so worried the first time I kept it that I will fall ill that she told me like 10 times ki beta don't do it).

I love the tradition and my husband fasts with me. We both pray for each other's well being and good health. I only see it as a day to celebrate love, nothing else. And what is wrong in that?

It’s mostly done these days out of their own will. Both husband and wives fasting is a common occurrence out of love and respect for their better halves. Nothing wrong with that..

See I'm not answerable to every person who keeps fasting for xyz reason. The concept of this ritual is regressive and needs to be called out. If you and your husband do it out of love, good for you, but you don't need a particular date written by thekedaars of a religion to do that.

same way you should not be speaking for everyone. It's a tradition, a culture and I love it and your thinking cannot change that for me. We keep it out of love and will continue to do so.

And by your logic we don't need a date for anything right? why a date for diwali or thanksgiving (we should be thankful everyday) or eid or anything? Don't make a huge deal out of a beautiful festival, it only celebrates love! Maybe things were different before but now I know no one who is being forced to keep it. All my friends do it out of their will and mostly all husbands fast along. Don't see a problem.

And just to clarify I am the least religious person. I don't even have a mandir or even a bhagwaan ka idol in my home. I do nothing. But I still love this festival!

the concept was made years back and anything made or thought of years ago will seem regressive however as long as it's evolving there seems to be no problem

like the concept of marriage was between a man and a woman only so as per your logic marriage is a regressive concept when it is clearly now evolving to include the LGBTQ community similarly the concept of karvachaut is evolving as well, with it being a choice to men also fasting, so there really is no problem if there is a date for it
