"Nahi karungi vrat phir, khana toh khayega naa Ani? Kitna dimag garam hai tera, zara si baat pe itna gussa. Kakiya ko zara sa chakkar ayaa aur pura ghar sar pe utha liya?" Chayanika Devi said hurriedly, trying to calm her petulant 6 feet 3 inches tall baby.
"Kakiya aapke paas mere jaisi kaki nahi thi, isliye aap nahi samjhengi mere liye apki ki kya kadar hai," came Aniruddh's muffled voice as he hugged his Kakiya tight.
Trilochan Roy Chowdhury then turned at Bondita smilingly and winked at her. Who would think a Zamindar could wink at a servant girl? Bondita smiled and bowed her head again.
"Boni Maa dar mat. Yeh humara Sonai Baba tere Bhutoo se kam nahi," he added humourously, at which all laughed except Aniruddh, who instead turned to look at Bondita's shy smile.
"Ab yeh Bhutoo kaun hai? Mere jaane ke bad kitne prani aur jud gaye iss grihasthi mein, koi mujhe bhi batayega?" He asked in mock anger.
"Bhutoo is the most ugly looking puppy, our Boni found him stuck in the rose bush patch all stuck among the thorns. I guess she cried more than her Bhutoo and was much more hurt too. But she refused get treated at all till Mr. Bhutoo was tended." Trilochan Babu narrated eagerly. "You should meet her Bhutoo sometime..." he added as an afterthought almost, the smile never leaving his face.
Bondita came near him shyly touched his feet and ran away from the room. Aniruddh was now intrigued... What was she doing here? She might not remember him but he remembered her, Bondita was the girl from the open theatre who narrated the story "Banjh Hoon Main". But why did she fear him so much? Som was also there, and Kaka was also talking to her normally. She didn't react all scared with any of them, it was not a gender issue then. Aniruddh never thought of himself one of those who repulsed people by just his look or demeanor, yet here was this girl who refused to meet his eyes even! Also her similarities with his Kakiya were uncanny. She didn't look much like Chayanika Devi, but her characteristics and mannerisms were very similar.
Or is it that he himself who was noticing or seeing things that didn't exist at all? Aniruddh was confused. He had always known his Kakiya was one piece in the whole universe and no one could be like her or could there be he asked to himself as Bondita once again captured his thoughts. Ani left the room, his musings messing up his already tired head some more.
The next morning Aniruddh woke up late, and stepped down without looking when he landed on a puddle. Then he yelped, WHAT THE HELL was this? He was apparently standing on a pup's puddle. Yuckk!
"Kakiya.... Kakiya yeh ghar ke andar puppy kaise aaya? Aur mere kamre mein kya kar raha hai?" Aniruddh growled in anger, forgetting about Mr. Bhutoo and Ms. Bhutni in his momentary rage.
Entering his room and smilling, Chayanika Devi addressed the puppy instead of Aniruddh. Oh the horror! "Bhutoo tum Dadamuni se milne aaye ho? Abhi dadamuni uthe hi hai isliye woh abhi Grouchy Bear ki tarah behave kar rahe hai. Hum Dadamuni se milne bad mein aayenge theek hai? Chalo Maa Bhutoo Babu ko Dhudh Bhaat degi. Bhuk lagi hogi na beta? Aao."
"Wah! Wah! Kya baat hai. Adbhut! Kakiya meri, aur pyar lene sab pahuch jaate hai. Pehle Ms. Bhutni aur ab Bhutoo. Lagta hai yeh sab mujhe hi theek karna padega." Aniruddh raged on.
"Yeh sab nahi chalega ab bus. Sara kamra ganda kar diya. Bhutoo and Bhutni dono ab bas ghar se out honge. I can't handle this anymore. Kakiya meri aur laad bhi mera bus. Baat karna parega Kaka se." The last part he muttered slowly, as he took in the scowling face of his Kakiya who left his room in anger.
Just in that moment he found Bondita standing at the door with a bucket of Phenoel water and mop. Eyes still not looking at him, she was chewing at her lower lip and didn't even knock, just stood there to get his permission to enter. He took advantage of that time to study her and then mumbled "Bhutoo and Bhutni what a combination?"
