Yes that’s a common theme in BW movies since the 60s at least :)
(Southern movies it’s two girl, one guy)
I’ll narrow it down - Bangladeshis didn’t like it
A film set in 1960' of Kolkata reflects the love story of a couple who have their relationship tested when the guy's father began to create misunderstanding between them.
Class difference is one of the themes of the film.
Nope. This film is set in 1960's Kolkata.
Husband tries killing wife because she's ugly. Wife survives, sells her diamong earrings, gets a plastic surgery to look exactly like she did before just glamorous. Makes the husband fall for her and then kills him.
Older man marries a young beautiful girl. Older man is boring. Wife don't like Old man. Older man takes off moustache and turns into someone the wife can't recognize. Wife likes no moustache. Wife falls in love with no moustache husband.
If there's anything Bollywood has taught us is that taking off a moustache or a little make up can make you absolutely unrecognizable to your spouse even.

Khoon Bhari Maang
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi
Tour guide and ambitious girl fall in love, get married, lose their child then fall apart because of their distinct nature in the long run. They call for a last meeting to sort stuff out but he never comes. Devasted, she can't get over him even after several years and during a train trip, she encounters his wife and child, and eventually confronts him, feeling betrayed. Finally she learns that he had come to that last meeting but had later left, deciding to water the flower instead of plucking it.
