the next few days went by with bani resting. veer didnāt let her leave the room and made sure she was recovering. no one in the family asked what happened as they figured it was related to what happened with mayuri and jay.
wanting to avoid ponky, mayuri told the family that she was going to her own place until the wedding. her excuse was that she wanted to enter the house as ponkyās bride when the wedding happened. that was a huge sigh of relief for veer and the family. bani would be safe for now.
veer told mayuri that bani had slipped. he didn't mention anything else and neither did the family. they kept the same story so that jay wouldnāt find out and suspect anything.
jay tried entering the house but because security was so tight it was impossible.
once bani recovered, she started adjusting to the house and tried her best to be normal.
she would play games with the cousins, make the whole family dinners and eat with them, and at night check in on veerās dad and the elders in case they needed anything.
they started to adjust to bani and her presence as well. in fact most of them enjoyed her company and liked having her around.
but she wasnāt back to her usual self. she wouldnāt come out of her shell. it felt as if she was living every day with a chain tied to her leg or something. veer noticed but she hardly spoke to veer either. any time he tried talking sheād go blank or excuse herself.
bani didnāt know what to tell him. she wasnāt sure what to do. she was getting over jay slowly but she also knew she wasnāt over it yet. she felt a breakdown coming as ever since she knew the truth, she hadnāt cried once.
it was all bottled up inside.
the whole family sat for dinner a week later and bani served their favorite dishes.
ābhabhi, oh my god this is amazing. all of our favorite dishes?ā
āyou guys have been taking care of me so much, making sure iām okay and i know youāve been walking on eggshells. iām sorry for the trouble and to make it up i thought iād make your favorite dishes. itās the least i can do,ā bani responded to one of the cousins.
āyou made all of this yourself?ā asked veerās dad.
āyes daddyji, i gave all the chefs the night off and told them iād take over for dinner. i hope thatās okay?ā
ābani you really didnāt have to take the trouble but thank you. weāre all very excited to try the food,ā veerās dad responded.
āsweetheart, you really didnāt have to do this. or you couldāve taken help from one of us. why stress gharwali? besides youāre a part of our family now, thereās no trouble in us taking care of you,ā veer chimed in.
bani smiled and didnāt say anything. she motioned him to sit and served him and the other members.
ābhabhi this is amazing, i havenāt had a meal this good in years.ā
āheās right, this is really good bani,ā said veerās dad.
āgharwali, you have magic in your hands. are you trying to make me fall in love with you?ā
āwhat?ā bani asked confused.
āthey say that the way to a manās heart is through his stomach. are you trying to get into my heart?ā veer asked mischievously.
āumm..ā bani didnt know how to respond.
āi'm not complaining but youāre already in my heart, thereās no need to make me try to fall for you even more.ā
veer would try to act as normal as possible with bani, trying to make it seems as if jay never existed and it was just them. when he heard jay and mayuri in the mandir, they mentioned bani saving him and how she was melting. he kept reminding himself that. he desperately wanted it to be true that bani was melting and she was started to have something for him aside from hatred or revenge. especially now, there was no hatred or revenge. she was just empty.
after dinner, bani went back to the room. it was a mess so she starting sorting up everything. she had never gone into veerās cupboard before but because his stuff was a mess, she thought of clearing it up for him. while she was taking his clothes out to fold them, something dropped on the ground.
bani bent down to pick it up and realized it was an earring. initially she assumed it was some other girlās but the minute she look closer, she noticed it was hers. it was the earring she lost and found when she was saved from the truck. when she went back to take it, it was gone.
āthat means, veer saved me? he held on to this the entire time?ā
her heart was so conflicted but seeing this melted her heart. veer was always there, he was always protecting her. the entire week, he was at her side. before that, when he thought she killed teer, even then, he would never hurt her. instead he would constantly take care of her.
but then she was reminded of the mandir and what happened. it would come back to her every now and then. today was different, this was different because she wanted to be done with jay today. after seeing this earring, she didnāt want jay anymore.
bani wanted veer. she wanted veer to be with her, taking care of her, pulling her leg. she was gutted by how the man she loved easily betrayed her and then there was veer who after everything still took care of her and stood by her.
bani broke down and took refuge on the floor next to the bed, she had her back rested on the bed side and finally after almost a week, she broke down and cried her heart out.
she cried for jay, for her broken heart, for the years she waited for him. but she also cried for veer, for how badly she had treated him previously, for misunderstanding him, and for not realizing how he was the one for her.
bani was uncontrollably sobbing, her knees at her chest, rocking herself back and forth. she was so exhausted. she just wanted to be held. she wanted to feel that sukoon again that she used to.
veer said good night to his family and went to the room. as he opened the door, he saw baniās breakdown. he knew it was inevitable and that it would happen soon but, he wasnāt prepared to see it. he knew she had to let it all out before moving on. she didnāt cry after the revelation, she was stone cold and it scared him because he knew the breakdown would be even worse then.
veer felt as if someone was tugging at the strings of his heart. bani was now shaking. she wasnāt crying as bad as she was previously but you could tell she was having a breakdown.
āsweetheart,ā veer began, trying to come up with something that would comfort her but he was at a loss of words.
he came closer and sat in front of her, he cupped her face with his hands so she would be facing him.
āiām fine, iām okay,ā bani tried to say more in attempt to convince him but this was all that could really come out.
āyouāre not and thatās okay. sweetheart youāre allowed to cry it all out. it doesnāt make you any weaker. you wonāt be able to get through any of this if you donāt let it all out. i told you iām here for you. let it out, itās okay.ā
āare you going to leave?ā bani asked.
āwhat?ā veer was confused.
āare you going to leave like jay did?ā
āsweetheart, iāve loved you since satyug and i will love you till the end of time. plus now that weāre married, guaranteed iāll be there for the next seven lives at least. youāll be my gharwali in all of them.ā
āpromise me. promise me that you wonāt leave and youāll be here for me.ā
āi promise you. i will always be there for you. i will never leave you, even if god told me to, iāll be by your side. no matter what, it will be us against the world. never us against each other.ā
veer wasnāt sure why bani was asking him all of this. he couldnāt understand what was going on in her mind. was it that jayās betrayal shook her so much that she couldnāt trust veer now?
āgood because iām not letting you go,ā bani responded and hugged veer. she just wanted to be in his arms for sometime. she wanted that comfort and safety, the one sheād only get in veerās arms.
veer hugged her back and comforted bani. his heart was happy today. hearing her say that she wasnāt letting him go was all he needed. veer felt as if he was the luckiest man.
they stayed like that for a while and then bani remembered the earring. she broke the hug to question him about it.
āveer, i found this,ā bani said as she showed him the earring.
āwhere did you find it?ā
āi was clearing the room and wanted to put your clothes back, your cupboard is a mess by the way, so i decided to sort those out and it fell. did you save me from the truck?ā
āi did. i canāt believe you were so reckless bani. what wouldāve happened if i didnāt come?ā
āi wouldāve died?ā bani said carelessly.
ādonāt. don't talk about death so carelessly like that. iāve told you a million times, if anything were to ever happen to you, i wouldnāt be able to take it. i would set the world on fire with me,ā veer said seriously, he wasnāt in the mood to joke on this.
āyou love me that much?ā
āmore than you can imagine.ā
they sat in silence for some time, enjoying each otherās presence. bani was started to get sleepy and veer could notice but she didnāt want to get up and ruin the moment.
āsweetheart, as much as i don't want to ruin the moment, youāre still not well and need your rest. letās get you to bed.ā
āokay patidev, as you say,ā bani said as veer helped her get up from the floor.
āi like it when you listen to me,ā veer responded.
āiāll take the sofa, you take the bed today.ā
āno bani youāre sleeping on the bed and iāll take the sofa. don't argue please?ā
bani huffed and got on the bed. veer went to the sofa and lied down. bani realized veer didnāt have a blanket so she got up and took it out from the cupboard.
she went to him and put the blanket on him, covering him with it. veer looked at her, he was filled with so much love for her and counted his blessings that he was able to marry her at least in this life if not the last.
it was as if bani could hear his thoughts because just then, she said, āveer, iām really sorry for killing you in satyug.ā
āgharwali, why are you bringing that up now?ā
ābecause you kept saving me. from the truck, the other day, at any point i'm in trouble, youāve been there and i killed you. i'm sorry.ā
āand i'm sorry i tricked you to enter the mandir. but sweetheart, saving you is my responsibility. taking care of you is my pleasure.ā
āgood night,ā bani said smiling, content with how things turned out.
āgood night gharwali, sleep well.ā
bani went on the bed and tried dozing off but her mind was heavy with thoughts of jay and veer. she was now conflicted with her feelings. she felt better about jay but veer was taking over and she didnāt know how to feel. if he was meant for her then, she wasnāt wrong to love him back, right?
every time i listen to dil ibadat i go hayeeee and i really need to chill but itās been years since iāve liked a couple on screen. i think the last show i really enjoyed was naagin 1 and then previous to that was qubool hai. they really stepped up with this season. hereās hoping that the next few weeks will be as good and we wonāt be let down.
