raanjhana; naagin 5 (chapter 5)
bani gets out from the car and before veer can say anything, she heads straight into the house and up the stairs. veer follows and everyone’s in the hall. they try ask him what happened but he tells them that he’ll talk later. he follows bani who walks into the room.
she isn’t really paying attention to anything and barely notices veer entering the room. bani sits on the edge of the bed and stares at the wall in front of her. she’s completely drained and can’t think.
veer isn't able to handle seeing her this way. he pours water into a glass and hands it to her.
“bani, please drink some water. look i know this was a lot to take in but i'm here. i'm here if you want to talk. i'm here if you want to cry. say something, please sweetheart?”
“i want to be alone for some time, please,” bani said in a low whisper.
veer put the glass on the table in front of her and left the room not wanting to push the matter further. he went to ponky and the family and told them that they needed to talk.
“ponky, listen to me very carefully. bani and i just found out that mayuri is a mourni and she’s working with jay who yes - is alive, to kill bani and i. jay wants to kill you on your wedding day. mayuri doesn't love you, she’s using you,” veer warned ponky.
“bhai, are you sure?”
“i heard it all. the situation is very bad. we’re all going to act low key for some time. no one say anything to mayuri. we don't want her suspecting anything. keep jay and every other outsider out of this house. no one should enter or leave, got it?”
“veer is right, let’s plan it all out properly and not make any sudden moves. once the right time comes we’ll get rid of both mayuri and jay,” said veer’s dad.
“and one more thing - i don't want anyone troubling bani. she’s very fragile right now. i want everyone keeping a watch of my room, make sure mayuri doesn't enter and make sure if mayuri is near bani, she’s not alone and one of you are there witnessing it. mayuri shouldn’t be anywhere near bani and one of us should be near bani at all times keeping a watch and taking care of her.”
they all agreed and promised veer to do as he said.
ponky wasn’t too sad, he understood the situation and as a cheel, he knew being with a mourni wasn’t in his destiny.
veer didn’t want to reveal bani’s truth because he didn’t know how it would be taken by his family. he couldn’t risk anything right now. especially not while bani was weak.
after the talk, veer went to the room to check in on bani and make sure she was okay. he was hoping that by now she would’ve gone to sleep and gotten some rest. instead the door was locked and veer wasn’t able to get in.
“sweetheart are you okay?” veer screamed.
nothing. there was no sound.
veer pushed the door and his cousins heard and came up to see what was going on. mayuri came out of her room, slightly, to see the commotion. veer entered and saw bani lying on the floor bleeding. she had tried to hurt herself.
“bani! tapish call the doctor now! bani wake up, please wake up”
veer panicked. bani was completely unresponsive. he wasn’t gone for long so there was still hope but he wasn’t sure what to do. he carried her to the bed and waited for the doctor.
once the doctor came, he quickly cleaned up the wound and got the area covered.
“you called me at the right time, if you called any later i wouldn’t have been able to save her. please take care of her and make sure she gets rest, she’s very weak right now.”
“thank you doctor, thank you so much,” veer thanked the doctor and tapish showed him the way out.
veer told his cousins to leave and that he would handle it. once they left, he sat next to her and stared at her. he was admiring her beauty. but at the same time he had this feeling in his gut that made him sick. he could’ve lost bani today. he wanted her to wake up. he waited all night and finally, after what felt like the longest night of his life, at 6am she woke up.
“sweetheart, are you okay?” veer asked softly.
“what happened?”
“you tried hurting yourself. the doctor came. you’ve been out for some time.”
“have you been here all night?”
“yes.”
“i'm okay. veer get some rest. please go sleep. i’ll be fine.”
“sweetheart, after yesterday i'm not leaving you alone. i will be in this room with you 24/7 taking care of you and making sure you're okay.”
the chef came in and brought food.
“i'm not hungry veer.”
“i don't care. you’re weak. the doctor told me you needed rest and you needed to be taken care of.”
“i really don't feel like it.”
“i’ll feed you then, open your mouth and chew. can you do that much for me?”
bani gave up and veer started feeding her. she was focused on him. on how caring he was. on how much good he actually had in him. she never noticed how much he cared previously. she was too focused on jay.
jay.
that stung. it brought back everything from last night. the betrayal, the backstab, the broken heart.
then bani finally focused on ponky and how jay wanted to kill him, along with teer and them wanting to kill both bani and veer. she had to clear this up with veer.
“veer can we talk?”
“after you finish your food gharwali, there’s only a little left.”
for some reason that made bani smile slightly, veer noticed and said, “i can finally see my wife coming back.”
and the smile faded just as quick when he brought up wife.
“offo, same old bani.”
bani ate the food and once she was done, veer sat across her while she was still in the bed.
“what did you want to talk about sweetheart?”
“did you tell ponky? jay will kill him. you need to tell him, his life —
“i told him and the family everything. not the part that you're a naagin and our past life but they know and we’re keeping it low key for now. we’ll keep playing along. no one is allowed in or out of the house. we’ll keep a strict watch.”
“okay good. i'm sorry about teer.”
“why are you apologizing? jay killed teer. you have nothing to say sorry about. why didn’t you tell me though?”
“i didn’t know. i thought i killed him. it didn’t add up but i thought in my rage as a naagin i killed him. speaking of naagin — did you remember everything that happened in satyug?”
“yes i remember it all.”
“they’re gonna kill us veer. they want to kill you because of me.”
“sweetheart, they won’t be able to touch you. i promise. i told you yesterday, i'm telling you again today. they won’t be able to get to us. i will be here protecting you at every step of the way.”
“i'm sorry.”
“for what?”
“for killing you in satyug. for misunderstanding you then and now. for being the reason people want to kill you. for teer being killed because of me. for ponky about to me killed because of me. basically for everything going wrong.”
“gharwali, if there’s anything i'm upset about, is you hurting yourself. that’s the only thing you need to be apologizing for.”
“i couldn’t take it. i thought he was the one, not now but since satyug and i came back to make sure that story got completed but instead it all came crashing down. i wasn’t able to handle it. my heart hurts. everything hurts.”
“and i couldn’t take seeing you like that. what would i have done if something happened to you? i can’t live without you. i would’ve died. i was so scared you weren’t going to make it.”
“i'm sorry.”
bani looks at veer, she can’t comprehend this. she sees his love but after the betrayal, she doesn't know how to react. veer has always been there but she had to get over jay and even after that, would she be able to trust veer?
“kher - forget it. just know that i’m here for you. if you want me here at any time, call my name and i’ll be there. someone will be watching at all times to make sure mayuri doesn't enter this room. i will be here as much as i can to make sure you're okay. i know yesterday wasn’t what you ever dreamt would’ve happened. i know hearing jay’s betrayal was not easy and it crushed you but sweetheart, you are strong. you can fight through the pain. you’ll make it through the other side i promise. after all, you're my adi naagin adi junglee billi wife.”
gonna be honest, i havent written a story in years now. i switched to poetry/prose and so i know i'm a little rusty. i hope it’s been getting better with every chapter though? let me know what you guys think of this chapter and if there’s anything you want to see, i’ll try adding it in to the chapters x
