I would say performances that pleasantly surprised me:

1. Taapsee in Thappad

2. Tripti in Bulbbul

3. Saiyami Kher in Choked

4. Vikrant Massey in Chapaak

Performances that disappointed me:

1. Ayushmann in Gulabo Sitabo

2. Jhanvi Kapoor in Gunjan Saxena( not surprising, but it was a notch below expectations)

Performances which were exactly what I expected--

1. Kangana in Panga

2. Deepika in Chapaak

Sobhita Dhulipala in Made in Heaven. (This was technically 2019 but I only saw it this year🙈)

Also, Masaba Gupta in Masaba Masaba and a special shoutout to all those in Axone, such a heartwarming movie.

Tripti in Bulbbul and Saiyami in Choked! Haven’t watched their earlier movies and they both seem to have great potential!

From your list:

Haven’t watched Thappad as not interested in watching a movie about a slap! Call me archaic mindset, but I don’t think getting slapped by your spouse is s big deal. Just slap him/her back! So not interested in watching those kind of movies, plus I don’t really like Tapsee’s acting, so no thank you!

Vikrant is a good actor and I like him since Death in Gunj, so no surprises there.

Ayushmann is not at all versatile and is an average actor, so I don’t have expectations from him. In fact his brother is a better actor than him. But he’s hardworking, sincere, and persistent and has rightfully carved his niche in Bollywood.

I have no expectations from plastic doll Jhanvi either.

Another performance I thoroughly enjoyed was- Rinku Rajguru from Hotstar series Hundred. The series wasn’t great but this girl was awesome!

I remembered another one, so adding it. Jaideep Ahlawat in Paatal Lok- never saw in a lead role before.

Raat Akeli Hai disappointed me too- but it was more about the story, direction, and editing that was a disappointment.

It’s about performances you have seen and not what your preconceived notions are about those actors, lol

Tell about the ones you have seen, full stop.
