Hi everyone. This is another OS based on a time some time after Vansh ends up in coma after the poisoning. Enjoy and do let me know what you thought about it đ€
The Woman of a Dangerous Man
âMr. Verma, I want this deal finalised by tomorrow,â said Anupriya on videocall to the company manager. âMy son would have wanted his business to run as smoothly as possible in his absence and I will do all that is needful to ensure the same.â
âBut the vendors are new, maâam,â interjected the manager.
Her eyes narrowed. âThe vendors are whom I approve of. Vansh trusted me to look after his company. Do you have any problem with my decision making?â
âHe may not,â said a woman from the front door. âBut I do.â
Anupriya ended her call to stand up from the sofa, anger building inside her at the impudent tone.
Before she could say anything, her stepsonâs wife stepped aside to reveal Vanshâs personal lawyer, Mr. Dutt. Both were people, she had no desire to meet. Both made their way smartly over to the seating arrangements, followed behind by Angre and four new faces.
âWhat are you doing? Why is he here?â
Riddhima Vansh Raisinghania observed her irate stepmother-in-law and smiled sardonically before taking a comfortable stance on a sofa chair. With a gesture of her hand, the lawyer too sat down. Angre signalled to the four new men and they arranged themselves at a distance around the room.
âI am just following your example, Ma,â said Riddhima. At Anupriyaâs impatient confusion, she looked at the lawyer. âIn the circumstances of absence or death of the husband, the wife becomes a signatory and authority over certain aspects of his business. Mr. Dutt, am I correct?â
The lawyer shot a nervous look at the elder woman and then nodded. âYes, maâam. Since Mr. Vansh Raisinghania is currently indisposed indefinitely in coma, as per his will, his wife shall be given authority over the decisions of his company and investments.â
âBut I was not told about any of this!â said Anupriya in shock.
The younger woman smiled sarcastically. âIndeed! None of us knew it. I certainly didnât. But apparently, my astute husband anticipated the circumstances where his absence may cause peril to his assets and decided to dump his responsibilities on my shoulders until he could become available to do so himself.â
âI dont believe this!â piped in Ishaani from a corner of the room. The idea that her brother could have left this âlow classâ woman in charge of his business was preposterous to her.
âMr. Dutt, do tell what happens should anyone oppose my husbandâs will in this regard,â said Riddhima softly.
The man sat up straight, legal jargon flowing like water from his lips. âShould any member of the Raisinghania household object or oppose his will, Mr. Vansh has left strict instructions to erase that person from being able to receive any share or property or even a single penny from his hard earned money from that day forward.â
âWhat rubbish,â said Aryan, coming down the stairs. Having heard the commotion in the hall, he too had come to partake of the legal festivities.
âThese are a copy of the legal papers,â said the lawyer, submitting a file on the center table. âIf that was all, I would like to take my leave, Mrs. Raisinghania.â
âYou may leave,â announced Riddhima. After he was gone, she sighed as she took in the anger, shock, envy and sinister energy permeating the room. Then she stood on her feet, head held high and decided to announce war. âI will say this only once. The responsibilities entrusted to my care will be discharged by me with utmost sincerity. As someone who knows the ins and outs of Vanshâs work, Angre will assist me in this task. When I need your input, Ma, I will notify you in advance. Your cooperation I will appreciate, but your objections I will ignore. If any of you have a problem with me taking my husbandâs chair, the main gates are still left open. You may seek your fate elsewhere, outside of the protection of my husbandâs power and money. The choice is yours!â
âHow dare you!â screamed Anupriya. âAngre, is this how you repay my son for all he has done for you?â
Angre stiffened. âThese were Bossâ orders. This is what I must do.â
âYou treacherous servant!â accused Ishani, totally forgetting that the same man was now her husband.
âYouâve finally shown your real colours,â said Aryan. âBari Mom, we must get rid of this gold digger!â
Ishani made to pull Riddhima by the hand but just then she heard the click of a gun behind her. One of the men, so far having watched everything quietly, had stepped forward with a loaded gun.
The young wife of Vansh Raisinghania raised an eyebrow at her sister-in-law and then turned to stare right into Anupriyaâs eyes. âMeet my...I mean....our newest bodyguards. Theyâre quite quick to act on my...our...protection. Hasnât Angre chosen well?â
âYou-,â began Ishani angrily.
âWhat is happening in this house?â said Dadi. She had been watching over her sick grandson until the commotion downstairs had forced her to leave his bedside. âRiddhima, what are you doing?â
Aryan seized his chance. âDadi, this Riddhima has crossed all limits today. She is taking advantage of Vansh bhaiâs condition to seize all his money.â
âChup kar, naalayak,âresponded Dadi.
âItâs true,â joined in Anupriya, pretending to be teary eyed. âThis girl doesnât love Vansh, Mummyji. She only loves his money. I am starting to think that this girl poisoned my son intentionally.â
âBas!â ordered the eldest woman of the Singhania family. Her beloved grandsonâs illness had filled her heart with fire and she was tired of the nonsense under her roof. âRiddhima took my permission to seek counsel with the lawyer. I was the one that wanted her to follow Vanshâs legal will. When I lost my son, the entire family was thrown into jeopardy until Vansh stepped up to take care of everything. This time, I did not wish to wait for any problems to upset the balance of my family. What Vansh wanted for us is what will happen. Thatâs final.â
âDadi! Didnât you hear what Mom said? This girl poisoned bhai,â accused Ishani.
So far Riddhima had allowed them all to express their opinions but now she had had enough. She looked to Angre. âYou are my husbandâs shadow, Angre. Today in front of everyone here as witnesses I give you permission to shoot me in the head if you ever find me acting in any capacity to harm Vansh or anything Vansh considered important in his life.â
This announcement was met by a moment of stunned silence. Angre could only nod but inside his mind, he was already pledging himself to the protection of his bossâ mad wife. How he wished his Boss could see what she was saying today!
âDramatics,â sneered Anupriya. âI donât trust you. You were the only one present when my son was poisoned.â
Riddhima walked to the older woman until she was inches from her face. The reminder of that horrendous day had turned epher eyes colder and her heart harder. âYes, Ma, I was the one who saw him fall like a stringless puppet with froth pouring from his mouth. I was the one who fell with him that very moment into darkness. I was the one who spent hours cleaning his vomit and tears as this entire house created a circus of blame games against each other, especially against me. I was the one who stayed awake the entire night in silent vigil at his bedside until Angre came back with the medical staff.â
âYou-â
Riddhima cut her off. âI am not done yet! Understand this very carefully. My Vansh, my husband, is struggling between life and death because someone poisoned our food. The only people capable of doing do are the ones under this roof. Until my husband wakes up from his coma, you will follow what I say when I say it. Anything that happens in this house from now on will happen with my permission. And until I find the one responsible for the condition of my husband, none of you are at liberty to do as you like.â
Dadi felt uncomfortable at the proclamation. âBeta, calm down,â
âI am calm, Dadi,â assured the young woman. âIn fact, I am so calm I feel like ice. Whatever comes near my husband from now on, will find this ice shaped into a dagger. A weapon piercing straight through their heart.â
Angre chose to speak then. âBhabhi, we have work to do. The pending deals must be taken care of.â
Anupriya glared at the traitorous man. She couldn't wait to tell Kabir about the madness his ex-lover had unleashed upon their plan. He would know what to do. She turned her heated gaze onto Riddhima once more before making her exit from the hall.
Vanshâs wife handed the legal file to Angre. âSet up a video conference with the company board in an hour. Iâll just be back.â
The room that had become a refuge of sorts in this madhouse was hauntingly silent. She dropped her phone on the side table and took her usual place beside him in their bed. With the corner of her dupatta, she wiped away some drool from the side of his mouth. For a long minute, she just watched his chest move up and down in slow motions.
âYou made me believe that you would always protect me,â she finally began, âbut then you broke your word. Mr. Vansh Raisinghania, I realised today how similar we are. Mujhe bhi dhoka bilkul pasand nahin. Prove me wrong and get up to defend your honour, you liar.â
Her husband remained frozen, uncaring of her disrespect towards his person.
âIâll wait to ask you why you gave me so much trust and power in your absence. For now, Iâm going to share a secret with you.â Riddhima took his cool hand and hugged it to her chest. âWhenever I told you that I could manage everything alone, I was lying. Iâm horrible at being alone. Whenever I turned away instead of smiling back at you, I was only turning away from the happiness that terrified me with its generosity. Whenever I fought with you, I was only fighting against the pull of your tide, fighting to stay ashore and not be pulled into the depth of your madness.â
âRemember we made a deal of two extra vows on our marriage night. Iâll make you another deal today. Come back to me or Iâll upend your entire household and business. Come back to me or Iâll sell all your illegal businesses and turn your reputation completely white. Come back to me or Iâll end up in jail for murder. Come back, Sweetheart, or Iâll never be sweet to anyone else ever again.â
She didnât feel the tears trickling steadily down her face. Her lips touched his fingers and then she carefully adjusted his arm by his side. âI know you can feel everything. Iâll wait for your answer. Don't take too long though. This lifetime seems too normal without you. And Iâm tired of being normal. Vansh, I donât remember how I lived before you. I donât remember existing without you anymore.â
Riddhima touched her head to his and the left for the business meeting. As she closed the door, she nodded to the new guards stationed outside her bedroom. Her husband would be protected at all times.
If she had waited for another minute, she would have seen the object of her devotion shifting his fingers slightly, as if they were reaching for the warmth of the hand that had just left them alone.
