EPISODE 2 - Aftermath of the Fashion Fiasco

Hello!

Instead of doing a recap of the entire episode in a sequential manner, I'll be going character wise. Anyone who wants a proper recount of the events can read the written update here.

Watch the episode here.

My update will explore each of the characters (except Arshi) who appear in that particular episode. It will first have a description of the scenes of that character followed by my analysis of their behavior.

Note: The Character analysis is written from the perspective of someone watching the episode for the first time and being completely unaware of what is going to happen in the future episodes.

Payal - Although she worries about her marriage, she is clearly more concerned about her missing sister. Even after her marriage broke, she was tense thinking about Khushi and a smile immediately lighted up her face when she knew that Khushi was back. She was the first to assure Khushi that whatever happened was not her fault (when accusations were flying all around her).

My view - If we needed any more proof about Payal and Khushi being close, there remain no doubts after Amma's dialog "Tumka to oo sui barabar baat bhi batavat hai" (She informs you about the tiniest of matters). Khushi is clearly in the habit of discussing everything with Payal and this is a well known fact in the house. Even after Khushi comes back, she looks at Payal and only after her approving nod does she start with her explanation. So although the family may accuse Khushi of being Dadi Amma and taking decisions by herself, she wasn't the ONLY ONE to have taken the decision that day. Payal just had the better luck of not being scolded for a decision that both of them took jointly.

Goods : A devoted sister who is more worried for her sister's safety than her own broken marriage. Also someone who looks beyond "blood relations" and considers Khushi her own - Tujhse saga hamara koi nahi (No one is more dearer to me than you).

Bads : She was afraid of the anger and scoldings she would get but concern for her sister should have been above that. I think she let too much time go before deciding to reveal that she knew where Khushi had gone. God forbid, but if something had really happened to Khushi, this time could have proven crucial. Also, she keeps quiet the entire time everyone blames Khushi although she was as much guilty of the plan as her. That tells me that keeping a good image in front of others / escaping scolding is more important than taking a stand for Khushi.

Buaji - She very gently asks Payal if she knew were the shop papers were but talks about Khushi in a very aggressive tone. Clearly a contrast in how she treats both her nieces. Later, she alternates between venting out on the gossiping neighbors and Khushi Maharani (Queen). Once Khushi arrives, she all but jumps on to her - ready to take her pound of flesh. Shashi can stop her but only till a limit.

My view - She is someone who takes saga - sautela too seriously and although she "tolerates" Khushi for her brother's sake, she will be quick to point fingers at her given the chance. Also, she cares about the public humiliation they have faced and how they won't be able to show their faces in the society; but I wonder if she is actually concerned for her Payal's feelings or anything else regarding the broken marriage.

Goods : Umm... a little difficult to find anything good about Buaji in these beginning episodes but maybe the fact that she is the one defending their family in front of others. While others have resigned to their fate, she is trying to shut all the gossiping mouths and preserve whatever leftover respect they have in the society.

Bads : Where do I start? Her continuous questions and insults to Khushi; her concern for public image is more important than Payal or the rest of the family's feelings; her clear disregard to the girl brought in by her sister-in-law, and also one who is quite dear to her brother. The worst was the point where everyone was worried for Khushi and Buaji says there is nothing to worry and that Khushi is thick skinned, nothing will happen to her. 😑

Amma - She makes the connection between the missing paper and Khushi, knowing what that means and what this is going to lead to. She also knows Payal has to be aware of the plan Khushi made but isn't able to force Payal to reveal. She tries asking twice but is helpless when Payal refuses to answer. Although the marriage debacle is big setback, until Khushi arrives home, her concern is more regarding the missing daughter. But she is as concerned about the society and gossips so she immediately takes Khushi inside before starting to question her. She is surprised with Khushi's answers but is quick to point out that she shouldn't have taken decisions on the elders' behalf. Her remark about Khushi not being her daughter is harsh and uncalled for but she looks as hurt by the statement.

My view - Although the broken marriage has her upset, she takes in the full extent of it only once Khushi arrives. The scene where Khushi sees the unlit wedding pyre and starts crying is also where Amma starts crying while looking around - maybe the point where she suddenly realized the reality of it all. Till then, she was more worried for missing Khushi, thinking if something untoward had happened to her. Even her first question to Khushi was - Tum thik ho? (Are you fine?). But upon realizing that she was alright, she immediately changes her stance and takes her in for a grueling session. A typical mom - Worried for the missing kid but will get angry upon knowing what the kid was really upto 🙈😂.

Goods : Concerned for her daughter, tries to ask Payal and know where she is. She also understands the dynamics in the house too well, knowing who thinks and does what - whether it be Khushi and the papers, Khushi and Payal, I think she was also aware that Buaji would surely make the situation worse which is why she tries to preempt it by her questioning.

Bads : Once given a verbal assurance, she didn't really bother checking whether Khushi was actually fine or not (she clearly didn't look so). And Amma is quick to disown Khushi. Although I understand she was hurt by her actions and maybe wary of how Buaji would try pinning it on her because she brought Khushi in; going to the extent of saying that Khushi proved she isn't her daughter (Aaj tum saabit kardi ho ki tum hamra khoon naahi ho) is a bit too much. 🤔

Babuji - He goes out to look for Khushi but fails to do so. Once Khushi arrives and is being taunted by Buaji, he is quick to step in try a more gentler approach to the entire questioning session going on. And once he gets the answers, he has nothing to say for now but seems like it has made him thoughtful too about what thye were doing.

My view - What do I say?!?! He has such few scenes and dialogs as compared to others but he SHINES through them! ⭐️ His worry for Khushi, Payal, Amma - it is all visible in the various scenes. He tries to be the calm center of the storm in their life. He tries to stop Buaji's taunts - not only in front of Khushi but even when she wasn't there. He clearly won't tolerate nonsense being spkoen about his dear daughter. He is the gentle understanding father who can make both his daughters feel more at comfort and open up. Payal had not answered any of her mother's questions but she starts speaking just by being in Babuji's presence. And Khushi only starts explaining upon Shashi's gentler queries while she stood mute to her mother's frantic questions and Buaji's cutting remarks.

Goods : Dutiful husband and father; knows when and how to shut someone up if they talk ill about the family. His presence soothes them all and he is the pillar their family stands on.

Bads : He maybe able to get Buaji to stop but is not so adept as far as his wife is concerned. He was surprised / shocked to hear Garima's words to Khushi but didn't step in or try to stop her at all. Even after everyone left, he decides to go after Garima and not stay back to look after Khushi. Yes, one explanation is that he knew Payal would take care of Khushi but there was no one for Garima at that time. But to me, this comes off as more concern for his wife than for his daughter. I'm not denying that Shashi is a good father; but it doesn't seem like he will ever try to stop Garima or go against her words - even if it comes at the cost of another family member.

That's all for the character analysis. What do you think? Do you agree or disagree to what I said... like / comment and let me know 😃.

Now, as someone who has actually seen the entire show multiple times, I've a few questions rising in my mind. Along with that, I've some silly and some important observations. So here is my Random commentary on the episode -

1. Why is Payal's necklace broken? It would have been understandable for Khushi but wasn't Payal just sitting around the house?? Agar Mamiji jaisi saas hoti to iss baat par bhi taana pad jata 🤦🏻‍♀️ 😆

Image

2. So this is the first time we get acquainted with Buaji's typical red cloth on head and swinging her plait around her neck. Only spectacles are left 🤣

Image

3. I don't really understand the Gomti Sadan's structure. Is it something similar to the Chawls of Mumbai? Why are there so many people living in this much space? They are standing all around and even above (first floor). Or were these the wedding guests? 🤔

4. I really liked the fact that the neighbor aunty who comes in their support in next episode is shown giving sympathetic and understanding look to Khushi and not gossiping like others. Character Consistency! 👍🏼

5. Why did Khushi not apply Mehendi? It was her sister's wedding after all..? 🤔

6. One more proof for Khushi's age - Buaji says Garima brought Khushi 10 years ago and we know Khushi was orphaned at 8. So this makes her current age 18. 🤨

7. Who are the two men with Shashi? Other family members or helpers around the shop? At least till this point, they do look affluent enough to hire helpers in the shop. Or maybe hired them just for the wedding? 🤔

8. Payal calls Khushi as Chutki here... wonder why the name didn't stick later on. Chotte and Chutki would have made a nice combination smiley36 smiley37

9. Okay... so although this episode is a tear jerker, I just can't stop laughing at Buaji's epic terminology and sayings - eg. Billaiya ki Nani (Cat's Granny) referring to Khushi; Kotwal ko Hathkadi aur Chor khaaye Kadhi (Handcuffs on the Police's hands while the Thief enjoys a good meal) 🤣🤣

10. Where is Aman?! Was he not hired yet or is he taking an off (on the day of a major fashion show no less!) I'm sure he would have questioned the backstage manager first and all this could have been avoided! Arnav bitwa just can't function right without Aman. Par fir ye kahaani nahi hoti (But then we wouldn't have this tale).

11. This isn't really about the episode but I watch it on Hotstar and it seems like they lost the original footage or something. Because the quality of this episode on Hotstar is quite low with different dimensions, star-like spots coming at some points along with abrupt noises. 🤔

Do you have some answers? Or more observations from this episode? Let me know if I missed something... however small and seemingly unimportant it maybe... after all we always keep discovering new things about this evergreen show ⭐️.

Payal started off as a concerned elder sister and as you said, Khusi shares everything with her. I must give it to her for sharing her father and step mother with Khushi. The reason for not opening her mouth about Khushi was, because, Khushi said, she will take care of everything and she is running low on battery. When she was about to reveal how she was also involved, she hears the scooter noise and with a big and relived smile on her face she says Khushi agayi and she is even ready to go out to meet her sister. May be she has lot of trust on her sister.

Amma is forever grateful for Shashi to marry her. And she made it her top priority to raise Payal as her own. When her sister died in a car accident, with Shashi's support and approval they adopted Khushi. Payal also welcomed Khushi with both hands. So, when it looked like her actions caused Payal's wedding to break she took it out on Khushi. That emotional outburst is common.

Buaji dotes on her brother. When he lost his wife, I am sure she must have taken care of Payal before he married Garima. So, obviously she will be suspicious about Garima's love. When it was proven beyond doubt that Payal is safe in Garima's hands, Khushi entered their lives and everyone started doting on her. That gives Buaji a reason to worry. She felt Khushi taking over Payal's place in Gupta's house hold. That is why it took her a very long time to warm up to Khushi. I won't blame her, but she should have respected brother's judgement and let go her apprehensions.

Babuji is most lovable dad I have seen on TV. I haven't seen many shows though. He is the most hands on, sought out and sorted dad. He is equally worried about Payal's broken marriage and Khushi's disappearance.

Lovely analysis and enjoyed reading it.

Cheers......

  1. The necklace is not broken, they stitched individual pieces and there is big gap between two pieces there.
  2. Yep the famous chashma is waiting to make entry.
  3. I think more than one family is living in Gamti Sadan
  4. Yes she is. Good observation.
  5. Those scenes must have been shot over two or three days. They both have mehendi in few shots and no mehendi in few other shots.
  6. Yes, Khushi is supposed to be 18 and Arnav 26. I think no one kept a record and the age kept changing through out the show.
  7. His assistants. Guptas are middle class people. But, with the house and shop gone, they pretty much became poor.
  8. Yes, some people remembered Chutki and used in their FFs. Again no one kept a record of this pet name and forgot.
  9. Yes, they used some good idioms in the show.
  10. The actor was doing another role, so, he was not available to take up Aman's role at that time.

Aman remained invisible throughout the show, but, during 24 hour challenge, a guys comes to RM to make Arnav talk to Khushi. At that time Khushi says, if Arnav doesn't pick up the phone, she will first send Aman and then she will send rest of his employees to RM one every hour to disturb Arnav. So, I assume the first guy who goes to RM was Aman. That same guy was shown in the next episode who was enacting a different role. You can confirm after you watch both episodes.😊

Cheers.....

I think analyzing this initial episodes is also making me have an insight on Payal's behavior later on. Everyone agrees that she changed after their marriages and didn't remain the same concerned sister that she was. But what is said over here and also what Payal says to Khushi at the time of her elopement tell us what really drew the wedge between them. Like Anjali infamously said to Arnav later - Jabse tumne hamare sawalo ka jawab dena chod diya hai... tabse sab badal gaya hai. What most don't realize is that the same struck true for Payal as well. She was used to Khushi sharing the littlest of things with her and when she started hiding her feelings and stopped discussing things around the time of Diwali and Shyam's engagement, the distance had started driving in already. But to elope and get married, yet refuse to give the reason to it - this just made Payal feel she was no longer as important for Khushi as she used to be. Whether right or wrong, I understand both Payal and Anjali. When their siblings suddenly stop answering them or telling them things (especially something as big as elopement), it does break the trust and eventually the relationship suffers too.

And whatever the reasons, I'll never be able to justify how easily Amma disowns Khushi (either times). No matter how angry she maybe, would she EVER say those words to Payal?? I know she wouldn't. So she is grateful to Shashi for taking her in as his wife and thus tries to be the best mother to Payal in return. Accepted. But why not extend the same courtesy to Khushi (who is her sister's daughter no less) ?? This just seems like double standards to me.

And what you say about Buaji does make me think deeper. You're right, she had reasons to be worried about Khushi's presence affecting Payal's life negatively. But, one just wishes she had a less sharper tongue... 🤔

Also, whether intentionally or not, Buaji's constant taunts and maybe Amma's biased behavior resulted in Khushi's stunted emotional growth. And let's not deny the fact that Khushi has some underlying issues too. Her need to shoulder all the responsibilities of the house alone, never take help or rely on someone, always wanting to keep others happy even if it came at the cost of personal wellbeing, lack of self-care and self-preservation - there are so many tell tale signs all throughout the show. Many have looked at how the past shaped Arnav but didn't the past + present do the same for Khushi as well?

I realized the Mehendi thing too later when I saw even Payal's Mehendi was quite light in another shot.

About the episode you mentioned, it's funny that I'm watching exactly that part currently 😄. I mean that 24 hour TV-Biwi track and all.

And I confirmed by watching that scene again - Khushi doesn't use the word Aman. She says Manager and although Aman is also a Manager, surely a company as big as AR must be having many people hired at various Managerial positions. So one is free to assume him as Aman if they want... or not.

On one hand, it makes sense that she would first call up Arnav's right hand man. But on the other hand, it seems equally unlikely because many have speculated that Aman was more than just an employee to Arnav and was more like a trusted confidante. So, if Khushi holds up a front for the family and didn't involve any of them in this matter, I doubt she would involve Aman either. Any random employee wouldn't dare to question what was really going on here; but Aman would (if was close enough to Arnav as presumed). Also the fact that neither Khushi nor Arnav use the word Aman at all and choose to keep it impersonal makes me think he wasn't someone so important. Maybe she just called someone who she knew lived nearer to Shantivan than others.

I think the CVs intentionally kept him so shady and decided not to give a proper face to Aman as they were worried about the brickbats the poor person would get for calling at inopportune times. smiley36
