This week Retro is back with a great new episode which will take you on a very nostalgic melody trip down memory lane!! This week's show is dedicated to those legendary singers who not only did singing, but also showed their talent in acting! The theme for this week is…….

Singing Stars Spl

Songs play a very important role in Indian Cinema. The songs are sung by the playback singers, and they get lipsync'ed by the actor/actresses they are picturized on. And often we associate the singing voice to be that of the actors. Playback singing is very popular in India and the playback singers enjoy the same star status as the famous actors. Though today playback singing is the routine thing, there was a time when playback singing had not taken off and in those days the actor/actresses had to sing their own songs as well.

These actors/actresses of yesteryears - they not only managed to capture our hearts with their brilliant acting but they excelled as singers as well and have immensely contributed to the Retro music of Indian Cinema. Many later left acting and took singing as their career. Many of these singer actors served as role models to many of our playback singers who had started their career during those days.

The songs crooned by these legandary singer-actor even today share a stature that many can only dream of. Legends like K.L Saigal, Suraiyya, Talat Mahmood, Kishore Kumar, Umadevi, NoorJahan Ashok Kumar etc come to mind when we try to recollect some popular Singing actors of those retro days. Songs like - Babul Mora , Aye Mere Dil Kahi Aur Chal, Rael Gaadi, Socha Kya Tha Kya Ho Gaya, Awaaz De Kaha Hain, Afsana Likh Rahi Hoon, Mein hoon Jhumroo etc are some of the priceless gems gifted to us by these legends, the charm of which even time could not wither away.

This episode of Retro is dedicated to some of those singers who are well known as both singers as well as good actors. We will take a trip down memory and melody lane and listen to some of these priceless, ageless and timeless beauties which are even today revered by all singers and music lovers.

On wednesday then we shall all meet right here on this thread at the Retro time, and listen to our favourite show.....
