The antagonist of fiction does everything wrong, however in historyn being antagonist doesn't mean he is Res for everything bad and he would always do everything bad.
Duryodhan might have been the antagonist but definitely wasn't irrational. He fought for what he thought was right. He stood for his correctness.
He honoured his commitments throughout.
We can not blame him for future wars too just because he was the antagonist. This war happened solely due to the stupidity of Yudhishtir and not because of Duryodhan
But his version of correctness was not dharm right? He wouldn't accept compromise like the 5 village thing so isnt the war attributable to him also?
Yudi to didn't deserve the throne nor the title but it's tragedy that he got both. I don't respect him one bit but then it also casts question on everyone who let him sit on the throne.

No one's version of correctness was Dharma. Neither of Duryodhan nor of Yudhishtir nor of anyone(not even Krishna if you ask me)
As we already said, Sahdev n Krishna had planned and deliberately the villages which were asked from him which they knew would never be given by Kauravas since those were strategic to their kingdom
Indraprasth was the capital of their erstwhile kingdom, if they became head of that region they could easily cause the start of a public uproar
Sonprasth area across Varnavrat, people might get emotional and they could easily get a public uproar started
Rest three were border areas (one towards Saurastra, other towards Panchal and third was border too), which means that Pandavas could get done an attack on Hastinapur and they wouldn't be able to protect.
Giving any one of these five would have meant huge risk to their sovereignty, and they asked for all five.
Krishna and Sahdev knew that Duryodhan wouldn't accept this and hence their wish for the war would be fulfilled, but then the blame of the war would go to Kauravas (who had actually won the bet and were therefore till then right in Their stance for public)
