Aishwarya is a better actress than Deepika. The only decent performance of Deepika is Piku.

Aishwarya was amazing in Raincoat, Raavan, Guru and Provoked. She gives some amazing performances out of her SLB world.

In movies like Dhoom 2 she was horrible no doubt.

Aishwarya Rai is a directors actor, period. With the right direction, she has always done well and excelled in periodic movies. Aish is less mechanical than Deepika. She did roles like guzarish, taal, raincoat, choker bali, hum dil, guru, kunanadein kunanadein, provoked which I honestly dont think Deepike could have done. But I don't see Aish doing a cocktail. She needs more Indianized characters with the exception of Bride and Prejudice (for which western critics actually gave her better reviews than Indian ones. Gurinder Chadda did a great job pointing out the bias in India against Aish becasuse she had upset some powerful forces. )

See these two scenes and I think you will see what I'm talking about. Ash is screechy and over-the-top. Deepika is nuanced and balanced.

Acc. to me her acting in movies like Lafangey Parindey, Cokctail, Piku, Tamasha, YJHD, Ram-Leela and Chapaak are amazing.

Aishwarya's only amazing perf. is Raincoat.

Aishwarya's biggest weak point as an actress is comedy .. She cant be funny even if her life depended on it .. All great actors are good at comedy .. Aish is too plastic ( personality wise ) .. She cant goof around or be real .. She is too classy and elegant .. And that restricts her as an actor ..

But she shines in serious roles under good direction .. Not to mention she is impossibly beautiful .. So certain roles are more suited for her than any other great actor ..
