[Written Series Episode 308]
Episode 7 - Blow away the cobwebs
A half sleepy Sid walks out of his room with an empty water bottle in his hand towards the table,
S (to himself) - How much worse can Utkarsh get!?
Sid placed the bottle, took the inverted glass kept on the table and poured in some water. Sid gulped an entire glass of water and made a loud sound in relief "Argh!" And turned towards his right with sleepy eyes. Whatever or whoever was there made the sleepiness in his eyes disappear and brought a big smile to his face.
On sofa in the hall, Siyali was sitting with crossed legs and wearing workout clothes while she was watching the news on the TV. It was about the meteor shower from last night. Sid approached her,
S - Early morning work out and all, huh?
Siyali turns towards the sound and seeing Sid,
Si - Papa ke saath jogging.
S - Argh!!
Sid had second thoughts going near Siyali as Nikhil could be on his way,
Si - We're probably not going today. Ab tak utey nahi. Kal raath tumhari mom ke saath deyr tak baath kar rahey tey. So he might have over slept.
S - Acha.
Sid gave a flirty smile and as he walked towards Siyali,
S (flirty) - Kal se baath karney ki koshish kar raha hoon. Akeley miltey hi nahi ho?
Si - Aise kaunsi baath hai ki sirf akeley mein kiya jaa sakta hai.
S - Tum nahi jaantey ho?
Si - Nahi toh.
Siyali cutely acted like she didn't know what he was talking about. Sid who clearly understood laughed as he stood in front of her. He sat down next to her,
S - Buss ek sawaal.
He turned his head towards Siyali and,
S - Start over or Continue?
Siyali looked at him as she remembered her words from the last day of school,
Si - And that's why, I don't want to start over. Vacation ke baad, (cutely, shy) We'll take off where we left.
Siyali kept looking at Sid without giving an answer. As both of them were silently gazing into each other's eyes, Sid lifted up his right hand and placed on Siyali's cheek as his thumb traced up from her cheek slowly towards her lips,
Si (whisper) - Sid? Mainey abhi tak jawaab nahi di hai.
Siyali gave a shy smile as Sid looked at her lips,
S - Toh do. Start over or Continue?
Sid leaned forward making Siyali's heart flutter which was making her not think anything. Both of them were a few inches away from each other, we're drawing closer to one another.
Nick - Siyali... Sorry I'm late.
Hearing Nikhil's voice, Sid rolled back to the other corner of the sofa, one place farther from Siyali and leaning further left on the arm rest while Siyali turned her head to the other side not looking at her father.
S (funny) - Bahar jaaney ka perfect climate hai na?
Sid smartly tried to manage the situation by seeing the weather forecast on the Television. Nikhil walked to the hall fixing his watch and looked at Sid sitting in the hall along with Siyali,
Nick - Sid?
S - Good morning, Uncle.
Nick (skeptical) - Good morning! How come you're up so early?
Nikhil asked with a suspicious raised eye brow but still a considerate warm smile to Sid who was acting pretty goofy.
Sid went into a flashback for a micro-second thinking about his sleepless night where Utkarsh had slapped his hand twice on his face and rolled him off the bed a few times, that Sid finally resorted to sleeping down but couldn't get a second of sleep. So he climbed back up on the bed where Utkarsh was sleeping diagonally and fitted himself in the small spot at the side as he tried to sleep.
S - No, Uncle. I always get up at this time. School ya vacation. Main bohat health conscious hoon. Sun ke saath utna seyhat ke liye achi hai.
Sid spoke to sound impressive as he got up to give Nikhil some respect. Siyali widened her eyes in a comical way expressing her disbelief in Sid's extra-ordinary ways to impress her father.
Nick (scoffs, annoyed) - Your time zone has literally changed. And you're telling me to believe this. How dumb do you think I'm? Did you just get up seeing me? Tumhara girlfriend nahi uska paapa hoon. Yeh kuch zyaada nahi ho raha hai?
Was what was going on in Nikhil's suddenly turned over protective mind which wanted him to hate Sid. But the cool side him wanting to cut Sid some slack and appreciate his efforts,
Nick - Impressive! Ek boxer ko healthy aur fit rehna chahiye. Keep it up.
Nikhil patted on Sid's shoulder which got Sid confused a little bit. Last night's threat and today's appreciation. What was going on?
Nikhil turned to Siyali,
Nick - Chaley, Siyali?
Si - Ji papa.
As Siyali got up and switched off the Television, she wondered what was the scene between her father and Sid. She didn't know about the 3 feet caution. But seeing then interact was a little too funny for her,
Nick - You want to join us, Sid?
S - Some other time, Uncle.
Nikhil and Siyali leave the house while Sid walked them out to the door.
As Nikhil started to jog, Siyali turned back to see Sid waiting by the door and gave him a cute stare to which he responded with an embarrassing laugh. Siyali also laughed, turned front and ran to join with her father.
S (to himself) - What were you thinking, Sid? Brush bhi nahi kiya aur....
Sid turned inside the house and blew into his hand to smell. A little taken aback by the smell
S (to himself) - Disgusting!!! Thank God, uncle ney rokliya.
Sid smells his hand again and gives a disgusted reaction as he walked back to his room

Few hours later, Sid's luggage was delivered to him which he dragged to his room. He freshened up got ready and was styling his hair in front of the full size mirror in the room. In the mirror, he was the reflection of Utkarsh was still in deep sleep, that he was snoring. Sid looked at Utkarsh's reflection and then his with an evil smile.
In a moment, he was by the bed shaking Utkarsh vigorously to wake him from sleep.
S (yelling) - Utkarsh! Ut! Ut! Ut!! Tu insaan hai ya kumbarkaran. Poora 20 ganta hogaya, aur abhi so raha hai.
Utkarsh wakes up looking confused as Sid was creating a chaos,
S (yelling) - Time deyka hai?
He picks up Utkarsh's phone and shows to him. Utkarsh looks at his phone and at Sid,
S (yelling in shock) - Why is it still showing India time? Change nahi ki tune? Oh my God Utkarsh, It's 2 already!! Sab restaurant chaley gaye aur tumharey wajase main abhi bhi yahan hoon. Beta rahega ya tayar bhi hoga? Mainey Uber book ki, 10 minutes mein yahan hongey. Tu nahi aaya toh main akeley chala jaa'onga.
U (tensed) - Haan! Haan! Main nahakey aa jaatha hoon.
Utkarsh runs to his wardrobe and picks up some clothes and runs into the bathroom,
S (yelling) - Nahaney ke time nahi hai. Buss dress change karkey aa'jao. Main lawn mein wait kar raha hoon.
Utkarsh, in his inhuman speed, brushes, sprays some water on him and changes clothes. He runs out the room to see the entire house empty. He runs to the lawn to meet up with Sid,
U (panting) - Sorry! Sorry! Sorry! Thoda late hogaya!
He bends to breathe and looks up to see the confused faces of others. On the table set up in the lawn, was a kettle and glasses with beverage and some cookies. Nikhil laughed and
Nick - Don't worry. We just finished breakfast. (Calls out) Maria, please bring Utkarsh his breakfast.
Utkarsh sat down awkwardly next to Siyali and changed his phone to reflect US timing.
• 8.30am •
He looked at the time and moved his eyeballs up to stare at Sid as he was sipping his tea and looking at his phone acting like he has nothing to do with this.
Niti reached out towards the cookie and got a glimpse of Sid's phone, the camera of which was on and pointing towards Siyali. Sid, being with both families and unable to direct look at Siyali, had resorted to this. Niti gave a funny glare at Sid and faked a cough at Sid to make him stop. But Sid instead looked at Niti and mouthed "what" raising his eye brows. She continued to have the funny expression and shook her head responding "nothing".

Back in girls room, the girls were getting ready to go out for lunch. Niti was putting on makeup while Siyali was putting on earings as both of them stood in front of the mirror.
Ni - Siyali? Tere aur Sid ka kya scene hai?
Si - Huh?
Ni - Mathlab, tum dhono couple ho ya nahi?
Si - Sid ney bhi yahi sawaal pocha?
Ni - You said yes, nah?
Siyali finished putting earings on and moved away,
Si - Nahi.
Ni (shocked) - Toh nah kehdiya?
Niti stopped half way as she was using the eye liner and turned towards Siyali who sat on the bed,
Si - Ofcourse, Nahi.
Ni - Jawab nahi diya?
Niti was a little relieved,
Si (worried) - Kaise deyti? Kis mo sey jawab deyti? Maximum 6 months, baad mein main yahan California mein, woh wahan India mein. Yeh kaisey possible hai?
Ni - Isi ka toh long distance kehtey hai.
Si - Ek dho saal ka toh teek hai. Par main yahin Papa ke saath rehney waali hoon for a very long time. Long distance.... Saal main ek dho baar milna... Aur seedey Shaadi. That won't work out. Saath saath rehkey bhi couples ke beech mein misunderstanding ho jaathi hai, break up ho jaathi hai. Aur hum itney dhoor kaise survive kareenge. Beech mein agar ko koi aur pasand aagayi toh?
Ni - Tu itney negative kab se ho gayi? Ussey koi aur pasand nahi aa'ega.
Si - Mujhe bhi patha hai. Main negative nahi practically soch rahi hoon.
Ni - Toh Sid ko manaa karney waali ho?
Si - Nahi!
Ni - Toh ussey yahan bulaney waali ho?
Si (louder) - Nahi! That would be unfair. Main aisi nahi karsakti.
Niti lets out a deep sigh in annoyance as Siyali seemed inconvincible. She turned back to the mirror,
Ni (gives up) - Toh kya karney ka plan hai?
She continues to fix her eye liner while Siyali explained,
Si (thinking) - Pehley ye situation Sid ko batha deyti hoon. Baad ka baad deyk lengey. (Pauses) Patha nahi kaisa react karega. Definitely sad hoga. But iskey wajasey main ussey manaa karoongi toh.... (Deep sigh) He's going to be so heart broken.
Niti looks at Siyali's pouty sad expression on the mirror and turns towards her after she finished her make up,
Ni - Kab bathaney waali ho?
Si - Baad mein.
Ni - Baad mein, kab?
Si - Vacation ki aakhri din.
Ni - Itni deyr kyun kar rahi ho. Abhi ki abhi bathado.
Si (disbelief) - Abhi? Kaise? Uska Vacations karaab ho jaa'ega.
Niti stared at Siyali who guessed what she was about to say,
Si - Tum dhono ko bhi vacations ke baad bathaney waali thi. Par kya karoon, tum dhono sey kuch bhi chupa nahi hoon.
Niti smiles hearing that and walks towards Siyali,
Ni - Tum zyaada chinta math karo, Siyali. Sab kuch teek ho jaa'ega. Tum humara vacation karna nahi chahtey ho, toh aisa chinta karkey, apni vacation karaab math karo. Abhi ke liye, bohat saari masti karengey. Baad ka baad mein deyk lengey!
Niti repeated Siyali's line with a playful smile seeing which Siyali gave a faint smile and noded her head in positive affirmation,
Ni - Toh humari saath enjoy karogi?
Si - Haan.
Ni - Saado Amma bankey nahi rahogey.
Si - Haan baaba. Haan
Ni - Toh achi si smile kardo meri maa.
Niti smile with her fingers in shape of L and asked Siyali to copy her. She did the same and,
Si - Lo! Khush?
Niti gave a big happy smile seeing Siyali who was finally smiling too,
Ni (dramatic) - Let the fun begin!!!!!
The four friends leave the house to start their adventure in California. They run out of the house and get into a big car so that all of them fit in.
As the car starts, Utkarsh lowers the glass on the window and peeped outside the car. Siyali and Niti who sat behind also leaned towards Utkarsh to see the roads. Sid who sat opposite to Utkarsh didn't react much and leaned comfortably on the seat and closed his eyes to get some peace.
chal paDe hain hum aisi raah pe
befikar hue ke ab jaana kahan
laapata hue saare raaste
DhoonDhega humein ye zamaana kahaan
The trio look amused as they see all the places they pass by until they reach their destination. At the restaurant, they sat around a round table looking excited over place, menu and the food. After they had enjoyed the food, next stop was the near by mall.
ye samaa hai kaisa
muskuraane jaisa
dheemi baarishein hain har jagah
ye nasha hai kaisa
Doob jaane jaisa
jaagi khwaahishein hain har jagah
They walked by the mall looking at various shops. Niti accidentally looked at a couple making out in the mall, that she turned around with widdened eyes and a comically surprised look. Each of them, walked out of the trial rooms wearing "I love California" Tshirts.

They took a lot of selfies wearing the shirt. And on the way back home, they listened to songs in the car and danced in their seats in unison. Even Urmila ma'am who sat with the girls at the last moved around a little bit as she was enjoying dancing with the kids.
The next day, early in the morning, everyone got ready in hurry and rushed out. Scene forwards to when they stood in front of Disney land excited. This time it was just the four of them, and they ran into Disney land.
paani hoon paani main haan behne do mujhe
jaisa hoon waisa hi rehne do mujhe
They enjoyed the rides in Disney land, took selfies, tried a few treats.
duniya ki bandishon se mera naata hai kahaan
rukna Theherna mujhko aata hai kahaan
In the end, Niti and Siyali even dressed up as Disney princess and laughed at each other. Sid took a picture of Siyali and smiled as Siyali awkwardly rushed away to go back home.

They continued to go around and visit a lot more places like Universal studios, etc and taking lots and lots of pictures. Siyali scratched out her checklist after they were done with an activity or location.

During one of their visits, in the night, they danced with a bunch of street performers near the golden bridge. Utkarsh took Urmila ma'am to the spot and danced with her seeing which the rest of them clapped.
Siyali laughed seeing this and checked another item off the list. One last item was left,
[ ] Tell Sid
She brought her pen near the area and circled the entire line nervously.

Siyali was sitting alone on the bench on the terrace eating icecream and looking worried. She turned to her left as Sid sat next to her. Instead of looking at her, Sid was looking at the night sky as he enjoyed his icecream.
Finding this to be the perfect chance to tell Sid about her future plans, Siyali's heart paced trying to find the right words. She had decided on what to say and replayed various scenarios with Sid's reactions - A shocked Sid, a disheartened Sid, Sid who would say that distance wouldn't matter between them....
S - I just can't have enough of this.
Siyali was distracted by Sid's word and turned towards him,
Si - Huh?
S (enjoying) - Yeh icecream. Mmmm.. It's too good yaar.
Si - Right!
Siyali said in a faint disinterested tone and turned back facing front. Seeing her look worried,
S - Kya baath hai?
Si - Kaunsi baath?
S - You're definitely worried about something?
Si (faint smile) - Dikraha hai?
S - Haan.
Si - Woh... Actually.....
Sid looked at Siyali as she rolled her eyes right and left looking down. He smiled and,
S - Yahin college padney ki baath hai?
Si (surprised) - Tumhe patha tha?
S - Haan.
Si (relieved) - Acha! Main wahi sochrahi thi... ki kaise....
S (mouthful) - Utkarsh aur Niti bathaye?
Si - Huh?
S - Uss baath ki toh chinta math karo. Haan tumhe bohat miss kareengey. Par samajlenge. After all tumhari best friends hai.
Sid casually put a huge spoon of icecream in his mouth,
Si - Aur tum?
S (mouthful) - Main kya?
Si - Iss baath ko leykar tumhara kya kayal hai?
S (mouthful) - Mera? Umm
As Sid thought, Siyali, yearningly looked at Sid, awaiting his answer as he swallowed the icecream is his mouth,
S - It doesn't matter.
Si (taken aback) - Doesn't matter??
S - Haan. Honestly batha'oon toh, Mera aur bakiyon ko toh koi farak nahi padta. Waise bhi school katham honey ke baad, sab apney apney raste. You staying here isn't going to change anything. Right?
Si (angry) - Right!
Siyali was already a little shocked but what happened next was just....
S - Argh! This icecream is really good. Ek aur cup milega?
Si (shocked) - You're joking, right?
S - Nahi toh. I know raat mein itna icecream khaana teek nahi hai. But it's too good.
Siyali scoffs, looks at the cup and then at Sid as he extended the cup towards her. Seeing how Sid was still concerned about Dessert after what she had just said, Siyali momentarily, lost her mind. She angrily pulls the cup out of Sid's hand. As she goes away,
Si (to herself) - Doesn't matter? Main matter nahi karti hoon? Toh kya matter karta hai? Yeh icecream?
Sid smiles to himself seeing Siyali get angry which he found to be very cute.
Siyali slammed the fridges door thinking about Sid which was heard till the dining area. The sound caught the attention of the parents who turned towards the kitchen and saw Siyali walking out of the kitchen holding 2 cup brimming with icecream,
UMaam - That's a lot of ice cream!!
Si - Sid ke liye.
Nick - Itna saara?
Si (sarcastic) - Haan! He seemed to reeeeeally loveee the icecream. So!
Urmila ma'am caught Siyali's meaning from the response and turned her head away to giggle,
UMaam - Seems like she's angry with Sid.
Nick - Huh? Really? Woh toh icecream leykey jaarahi hai. (Confused) Does it look like something is going on?
Nikhil didn't understand what was going on,
UMaam - Why do you sound concerned? You don't even approve Siyali liking Sid.
Nick - What do mean? I always thought Sid and Siyali looked cute together. (Joking) But now that I've taken up the role of father, all I want to do is keep them physically 3 feet apart.
UMaam (laughing) - Do you hear yourself!!!
Nick - Agar main kehta ki jisse date karna hai date karo, I would sound like an irresponsible parent. But if I said, "Date whoever you like" but put some rules and (winks and point) scare the boyfriend..... Voila. Good parent.
UMaam (laughing) - Nick. You and weird your techniques.
On the other hand, Sid was texting his friend from the terrace,
•Charlie•
Kya?
•Sid•
Bohat cute lag rahi thi. I couldn't help but tease.
•Charlie•
Sid, you decided to be serious about life. (Face palm)
•Sid•
Ya! So I can't play with my own girlfriend! -_-
Sid put his phone back into the pocket as Siyali walked in with a sarcastic look,
Si (annoyed) - Butterscotch chahiye? Ya Chocolate?
S - Koi bhi deydo.
Sid takes a pause and looks at Siyali,
S - Doesn't matter!
Si (angry) - Acha? Toh dhono hi tum hi leylo. Neechey dabba mein baaki pada hai, woh bhi kha'lo.
Siyali literally shoved both the cups into Sid's hands and walked away angrily.
Sid's Narration: Haan, Life ko serious leyney ka phaisla kiya mainey. Par itna toh chalta hai. Sach batha'oon, itna toh definitely chahiye hi chahiye. Agar Zindagi barr serious hi rehna hai toh jeeney ka kya wajah.
Siyali walked down stairs with a frown - What reactions did she expect from him and what was she getting? A brutally honest and practical reply. While Siyali was getting annoyed over it, Sid stood on terrace by the railing, eating ice cream and enjoying as he recaped Siyali's reaction in his head.
Log kehtey hai ki agar kal khush rehna hai toh aaj apney bohat saari khushiyon ko sacrifices karna padta hai. Par itna nahi ki khush rehna aur masti karna hi na bhool jaaye. Hain na?
During the past few weeks, Sod and Utkarsh were both working hard towards their career but they still managed to find some time to prank each other.
Jitna apna future important hai, apna past aur present bhi utna hi important hai. You can't have a future without your past and present.
Scenes of the trio and Sid enjoying the vacations are shown.
So, always remember to enjoy and cherish today while working hard for a better tomorrow.
