Chapter Four : Sweetheart

Roshni paced the room with frantic steps, she didn't know what Amar would be thinking and frankly she was so so scared.

In no time, she heard someone knock on the door, moving carefully she opened it and there stood Amar. He pulled her outside and started shaking her hard.

"Kya tha ye. Ye Siddharth yahan kaise aaya? 3 saal ho gaye hain but I can still do what I promised, also stay away from him. Make him believe you hate him, do whatever you have to do. I don't care, get it!?"

He was passing and hurling warnings while all she could do was stand there with her head down and her mind swirling with what had happened years back.

Shaking her wildly, Amar closed in on her. "Tumhe sunayi de bhi raha hai? ROSHNI!!"

He was shouting repeatedly, just then a hand came up on Roshni's shoulder. She wished to God it wasn't him, turning over she was met with the face of a stranger.

"Chod use." The guy spoke up with a calm demeanor. Roshni was surprised, why was a stranger helping her but this angered Amar immensely.

He started hurling insults now, "Kitne bande hain tumhare? Ab ye kaun hai?"

Amar started to hold her wrist in a death grip but got stopped by the guy, who pushed her behind him in a protective stance and meeting the eyes of Amar spoke, "Leave. I said leave and learn some respect if possible."

As he went away with a deep frown on his face, Roshni couldn't help but be afraid of him. Closing her eyes in frustration and tired of all the drama, she hung on to the man.

"Thank you." The words left her without her own accord, he looked like a nice guy.

He passed a small smile to her and he replied, "No problem. I'm Veer by the way. If you don't mind can I ask how you and that guy know Siddharth?"

Roshni wasn't expecting this question, stumbling away from him she straightened herself. Ducking her head she started to move back into her room when she heard his voice calling, "I don't know history kya hai but I'll say one thing Sid is a great guy, don't hurt him okay?"

Tears made way out of her eyes in no time, slowly she turned around and said, "What if I've hurt him already?"

Moving forward, he was now standing exactly outside the threshold of the door, "Intentional nahi tha. Warna aise ro nahi rahi hoti!" He said pointing to the tears.

More tears made way at his response, he shuffled in his pockets and handed his handkerchief to her. She took it and wiped her face. "I miss him, I miss him so much, my mom misses him."

She tried to be honest for the first time in her life in the last few years. He put a comforting hand on her shoulder and said in a sympathetic tone, "He misses you too."

Seeing the shock written on her face, he continues, "Usne kabhi bataya nahi par bahut pain hai uske andar. Harshita se hi share karta hai mostly but bhai maanta hun main use. Itna toh pata hi hoga na?"

A smile made way on Roshni's face and he couldn't help but smile back in response. Veer bid farewell to her and the smile didn't leave his face, he hadn't talked like that to someone in so long and it felt good.

Other side

Harshita followed Sid outside, he had something on his mind and she needed to know what it was.

"Kya chal raha hai tere mind mein?" Harshita questioned. She didn't understand what he wanted, one time he avoided her, threw things here and there then he would run away unexpectedly for the whole night and finally he showed up in the morning with a resolve to participate in the couple dance because Roshni was participating too.

Siddharth made her sit beside him and said, "Kuch hai. Kuch hai jo resolve nahi hua hai! She left for me."

"Matlab? Obviously she left coz she didn't love you anymore right?"

Siddharth shook his head, "No! She feels for me aaj bhi Harshita. I could see it in her eyes, woh I don't know kyun kar rahi hai ye sab but I'll find out. I deserve an answer atleast."

Closing in on Siddharth, Harshita put a small hand on his shoulder, "Tu sure hai about this? What is your plan?"

He faced her and holding her face he whispered, "I have to try Harshita. She's my everything, seeing her again I realized ki it's her or no one else."

Leaving her he moved a few steps ahead and spoke with a smirk on his face, "Karna kya hai! Usko trigger karunga with our past moments and hope karunga that she speaks what is in her heart."

Nodding Harshita decided to help him in his plan, they talked a bit more after which Harshita started to go towards her room. She was in her thoughts, going through what all Siddharth said when she stopped in her tracks.

Veer was talking to Roshni, that too all smiling and why was he standing so close to her. Somehow she felt bitter at the whole scene in front of her, Veer was her friend. He smiled and talked like this only with her, she hid herself a bit from the normal line of sight.

As Veer made his way outside with a smile on his face, she was in two minds. Should she follow and confront him or should she go in and talk to Roshni about it?

Of course Veer was the one who would hear it all from her. She was angry that much was clear even to her, so approaching him she tugged his hand harshly and he came tumbling towards her.

In this tussle she was about to fall down but he held her. His smile widened seeing her and he spoke, "Finally time mil gaya mujhse baat karne ka madam ko?"

Standing straight, still a bit angry at him she said, "Matlab? Tu bhi toh naye friends bana raha hai."

He frowned and tried to think what she could be pointing at. "As in? Acha ek minute, can we go and eat something. Bahut bhook lagi hai."

She smiled a bit and agreed, he was always cute when hungry.

Sitting close, she saw him eating and he seemed in a good mood. Deciding it was a good time to question him, she asked, "Kya baat hai? Bade ache mood mein hai!"

"Yep." His response came in immediately, "Ye bhel puri hai hi itni tasty!"

She smacked her forehead, expecting a better answer from him. He chuckled at her antics and questioned, "Waise ek baat puchun?"

Harshita nodded urging him to go on.

"Siddharth and Roshni ki kya story hai?" He asked not mixing any words.

She wasn't sure if this was her place to speak so she kept quiet. He understood her silence and continued, "Koi nahi agar tu nahi batana chahti."

She smiled at how understanding he was but then the smile went away when she remembered Roshni and Veer smiling.

"Tu Roshni se kya baat kar raha tha?" She spilled out without a filter.

He looked up from the food but then replied, "Sorry Harshita. It's her matter, usne trust karke btaya hai mujhe. I don't want to disrespect her."

This angered her to no extent. She thundered, "Matlab tu mujhe nahi btayega?"

Veer shook his head in a No. "Aur kuch puchna hai tujhe?"

Harshita got up and left the place, why was she getting so affected. He wouldn't tell things to her because of this Roshni.

Closing the door of her room she was met with her again, "Ahhh! Can't you just leave for a while."

Harshita hadn't meant to be rude but she just couldn't help herself.

Roshni looked at her with a weird look.

"Kya kar rhi thi tum Veer ke saath?"

The question confused Roshni, she asked, "Woh tumhara kya hai?"

Harshita was about to burst now, pointing a finger at Roshni she started, "Don't you dare. Veer and mera relation janne ki need nahi hai tumhe!"

Roshni looked amused, "I was expecting you to be angry at me." Pausing a bit for effect she spoke, "But at Siddharth's expense."

This sentence seemed to get Harshita out of her angry mode to a flustered mode, "Ahh, main woo."

This made Roshni laugh harder, "Don't worry. I'm not doing anything wrong with your friend. He helped me infact, he's a sweetheart."

Ignoring the teasing glint in Roshni's voice, Harshita went to bed.

But Roshni pulled out her iPod, she wasn't feeling sleepy.

By luck or chance the first song that played was "Sweetheart", stifling a giggle she looked at Harshita but then was taken into the past.

Flashback

Do nain sitaare hai chand sa mukhda

Kya kehna uska.. Afreen!

Roshni and Siddharth had went to her best friend's wedding in Jodhpur, when they were having the sangeet ceremony. As a result of that two teams were divided, girls vs boys was going on in full flow.

That's when Siddharth decided to take a chance and woo Roshni. He started to dance around her and she laughed at his moves.

Daawat mein jaise ho shahi tukda

Uske jaisi na koi nazneen

Taking a sweet in his mouth, he kept following her wherever she went. Roshni felt a lot special when he showered her with praises and today he was lovingly professing his feelings in front of everyone.

Pointing at her beauty, he sat down on his feet calling her closer to him spreading his arms.

Shaahi joda pehan ke

Aayi jo ban-than ke

Wohi to meri sweetheart hai

Sharmayi si bagal mein

Jo baithi hai dulhan ke

Wohi to meri sweetheart hai

He danced with a zest to prove how special she was and the blush adorning her cheeks was enough testament to the same.

Thereafter whenever he called her by the term, "Sweetheart" all she could remember was this wedding and how she had felt like a princess that day.

Present

Roshni was smiling amidst tears, how she wished to tell him all she felt for him and had never stopped feeling.

Siddharth lay on his bedside with a hope in his eyes, a hope that all would get better as time went on.

Morning

As the morning came out it was also the first day of the competition, everyone went to the dance hall for rehearsal.

That's when they met again. The whole ordeal was very hard for them, as long as they had loved dance Roshni and Siddharth had always danced together.

Siddharth was looking at them dancing, that's when he heard a phone ringing, he went to the table where most of the people had kept their phones, he thought it was his phone and picked it up.

As he was moving outside, he said, "Hello."

"Siddharth?" He heard on the other side and it was as if his world stood still.

"Mom?" He was ready to cry, he looked down at the phone. This was Roshni's phone and this was her mom, their mom.

"Maa! Kaisi ho aap?"

"Tu kyun chala gaya tha Sid? Kahan hai, Roshni aur tu saath aa gye kya?"

He was crying full on now, "Toh kya karta main Ma? Usne mujhe chod diya, aur kya option the mere paas except to go!"

DD almost dropped the phone in shock, "Ye tu kya keh raha hai beta? Roshni ne tujhe kab choda?"

Now it was Siddharth's turn to be surprised, "Matlab? Usne aapko kya btaya?"

"Roshni ne mujhse kaha ki tune use chod diya Sid, main tujhse itna gussa hui par beta har din teri yaad aati thi."

Siddharth couldn't believe it, "Ma, Roshni ne mujhse breakup kara, maine usse nahi."

DD and Siddharth were both confused, they talked some more and came to the conclusion that something was amiss.

Siddharth finally asked her, "Ma, aap aa sakti ho kya yahan?"

DD started crying and said, "Haan Sid, main aati hun. Beta ek baat aur, mujhe Amar kuch theek nahi lagta hai. Tu Roshni ka dhyan rakhna please!"

Siddharth assured her he would keep her safe and went back to the dance hall after composing himself.

Carefully keeping the phone there, he got ready for the competition but before that he had to ask her something that was bothering him.

As they were filing out of the hall with their respective partners, Siddharth saw Roshni moving out alone. He took the chance and grabbing her hand moved to the other room.

"Kya kar rhe ho?" Roshni asked irritated.

"Tumne maa se ye kyun kaha that I broke up with you?"

She stood dumbfounded, how could he know. Why was all of it falling apart?

"Sach kya hai Roshni?" He asked slowly, "Please btao!"

Roshni was standing on crossroads, what should she do? Tell Siddharth the truth or protect him from the truth?

Hiding things is just making things worse. She needs to tell him so they can face it together. She thinks she is protecting him, but it does not work.
