I don't see anything wrong with Alia asking directors for a role or even Karan suggesting her name. Anyone should be able to ask for work or be recommended. However, it is wrong if an actor has already been cast or confirmed only to then be replaced by another. I don't think we can even really say that Alia is at fault for this (as she doesn't control casting) but rather it is the director and producer's responsibility to not engage in such behavior. This unethical practice is systemic and widespread in Bollywood...and goes beyond even just star kids. In fact, Taapsee was replaced by Bhumi in PPAW by the producers with no notice. Producers and directors need to maintain professionalism and strong ethics before anything else.

That being said thats not the first time it happened to Katrina 😆. A vishesh film called Saaya. It was produced by Mahesh Bhat starring John Abraham & Tara Sharma and Katrina once alluded she was let go from that film in a interview she did from Masand and I think Salman was there also. She said she cried cause she was replaced. Now it seems to me Katrina is the problem 🤣

I've seen that interview and if I am not wrong Alia mentions that both SRK and KJO convinced Gauri that she would be apt for the part. Just learned in this topic that Katrina was the original choice. Thank God SRK and KJO talked Gauri out of casting her because Kat can't act to save her life.

Anyway, Dear Zindagi was a Dharma production so KJO does have a say in who gets cast for the movie. He is investing his money so has the right to decide who he wants to invest in.

My question was if there is any evidence of him getting her projects outside of Dharma?? There are so many allegations flying around that he was arm twisting every tom dick and harry to cast her that I am just wondering which movies he actually got her??

Anyway after that she continued to do movies all with Dharma if you notice. She then continued with Dharma and then got Gully boy (fair enough if Zoya thought she was suited for the part). But you can see that she has had to build her career majorly with Dharma to get the point now after 8 years that she may get offers from other production houses more frequently without KJO intervening.

So basically you are saying that she has mainly acted in Dharma movies and the ones that she got outside Dharma had nothing to do with KJO (other than Highway)????

Karan can't really get Alia any projects outside of Dharma because he is not investing his money or responsible for those casting decisions. For example, Karan recommended Alia to Imtiaz for Highway but Imtiaz and Sajid were the ones who decided to cast her. Alternatively, he suggested Aditya Chopra to not cast Ranveer and Anushka for BBB but Adi still went ahead regardless. Karan can simply make suggestions or recommendations but he can't cast anyone in films outside of Dharma.

Once again producers get money from financiers to produce the movie so it not the producers' money. Secondly, the director still has the vision. Katrina (even though I am not a fan) has acted well in New York, Rajneeti, Namaste London (which has had a sequel and has been remade in Punjabi), Zero or wherever her role required more from her than just looking pretty. Or whenever she had good writing and good direction (which Aloo always gets with exception of Kalank or SOTY). Aloo might be somewhat more talented but the consistent oppurtunities of working with good writers and directors has helped her significantly. Randhir Kapoor when asked whether Kareena or Karishma were better the actress. He stated Kareena is more natural and has better voice. But she has had an advantage of working with better quality film makers. Starting with her debut Refugee itself. Karishma had work her way up from C grade movies. Beyond that Ranbir passed the world fo her in Highway. Shahid did for Udta Punjab. And someone had posted the news about Shraddha being the original choice for Gully Boy.
