Linguistic community stereotyping in Bollywood - Page 2

I think the worst is Bihari/UPites who are shown as uneducated fools and gutka fanatics; which is super ironic since some of the biggest names in the industry are originally UPites/Biharis/Kayasthas.

Sushant, Manoj Bajpayee, Shatrughan Sinha and AMITABH BACHCHAN (born Inquilaab SRIVASTAVA...a Kayastha). Anushka is from UP.

Music industry names include Sonu Nigam, Udit Narayan Jha and his son Aditya, Anand-Milind and their father Chitragupta Shrivastava, Aadesh Srivastava and his son Avi.

Can you explain the difference among all of them?

I absolutely agree that we tend to label people as south Indians throughout India.

I'm sorry but in my experience nobody talked clearly about it( talking about the people I've met from south India).

Also, Bollywood definitely needs some better representation of all the four groups mentioned.

But aided benefit would be if all four south film industries dub their movies so that they can be viewed pan-india.

I recently tried to watch oh! Baby but it was an ordeal for me to attain subtitles for the movie. It was a really good one btw.

I dunno but it's a personal experience, whenever I met a tamilian in contrast to a malayali, they were less friendly and very supremacist kind, I mean they somewhat look down upon "Hindi soeakers".

Of course, I wouldn't generalize the whole demographic over it and no one should.

Hoping, you can provide more clarity on this.

Exactly. I've seen kasauti season 2's promos and goddamn, the ladies have such loud makeup and costumes, they legit look like chudails OMG.

Specially the hero's mother, she scares the shit outta me specially with those expressions.

They are 4 languages spoken in the 4 states in south India

Kannada - Karnataka

Telugu (not telegu) - Andhra Pradesh (+ Telangana state which was recently created)

Tamil - Tamil Nadu

Malayalam - Kerala

Rant ahead :

Atleast for most of the states they get the language/accent mostly correct. UP/Bihar is just represented with some random cosmetic Bhojpuri accent and then people are hailed for showing 'authenticity'. Ask anyone from Bihar if they recognise the accent (let's not even talk about the language) Alia did in Udta Punjab and you'll get your answer. It was so cringeworthy. And it was hailed by the BW brigade as the best thing since sliced bread. Thus that's what most of the unaware people think how Bihari speak.

Bihar has Maithili, Maghi, Angika and Bhojpuri(these are different languages,not even talking about dialects here). UP has Awadhi, Urdu, Hindi and Bhojpuri. Par homework toh krna nhi hai, kuch bhi bech do 'authentic' bol ke. Bas sab dialogues mein 2 abuses daalo and har word k sath 'wa' and 'ya' lagado. So simple.

Prakash Jha in his movies and Subhash Kapoor in Jolly LLB 2 are the only ones who come to my mind who actually showed 'authentic' accent in their movies.

Eh. As per the entertainment industry, everyone is a stereotypical member of gokuldham society.

UP walas only talk in hum, humaar, humra, bhaiya with same ghise pite lingo that aren’t used outside a few districts.

Worst was when in a tv show people in Meerut were talking like that.😆
