I don't like his work. Too dark and depressing for me. I prefer his collaborations with Vikramaditya Motwane. So perhaps he's at his best when someone -more coherent is- is in charge.

His only movie I liked was Udta Punjab. Manmarziyan was decent.

Udta Punjab was directed by Abhishek Chaubey, another talented director (must watch his Ishqiya). Manmarziyan was okay okay - he made it in a happy zone. I like his movies when they go really dark.

Oh I thought it was made by Anurag Kashyap & I have seen Ishqiya I thought it was directed by Vishal Bharadwaj.
& Masaan was good as well.

Yes it's a beautiful movie. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. But yes this and Udta Punjab were all produced by Phantom, so Anurag was involved.

Ishqiya is by Abhishek Chaubey (produced by Vishal Bharadwaj).
Actually, if you see Haider, Omkara, Kaminey vs say Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday there's a difference. One is more nuanced with multi-layered characters and another comes across as all dark, with black and white characters.
But yes, I see what you do mean in terms of dark lighting in movies.

Bro, Vishal Bhardwaj fan here, but disagree on Anurag's movies having black and white vs grey. Have you seen e.g. Gulaal, Ugly, Raman Raghav 2.0, Dev D? Who was black and who was white?
