Re: Aditya Chopra. Didn't Honey Irani say she wrote the script for DDLJ which he stole credit for?

Yash Chopra did films before Sridevi's Chandni but the image of king of romantic films started with Sridevi's Chandni. Its Sridevi who actually contributed hugely to Yash Chopra's career. People connect with that film with Sridevi's Mere Haathon Mein Nau Nau Churiyan and Chandni o mere Chandi song.

Lamhe which is considered his best film till date was a classic because of Sridevi.

SRK's kikkkkkiran act in Darr was the hightlight of that film, not Yash Chopra's direction. Dil Toh Pagal Hai would have been a disaster if it was not SRK. Same with Veer-Zaara.

Sridevi & SRK made an average director 'romance legend'.

^ Infect AAMIR IS THE ONE WHO MADE DIRECTORS.

Aamir many times took failed & rejected directors and made them successful... It was a HUGE gamble but with Aamir's creativity it always worked.

Not that annoyingly over rated srk whose entire career is tailor-made by yrf & Johars.

Hard pill...I know, but needs to be swallowed.

The well read claim is what I don't understand. Kajol has said she reads all the romance novels. Those don't make a person well read. Booker prize type novels only makes a reader a bit of an elitist, but pop culture books deffo don't qualify her as well read. I'm not surprised she comes across as an idiot if that's all she reads.

I didn't say Katrina was great, just that she's not as bad as she is purported to be.

I don't know if romance is all she reads. But at least someone is reading something in Bollywood. I do have a soft spot for fellow bookworms. Harshvardhan Kapoor is another. Saw one of his old interviews where he spent as much time promoting his favorite book as his movie.

Sonam Kapoor is another voracious reader. I have seen her liking various book-related posts on Instagram.

My God, no. Even the name Chandni as movie title came after years of using it for his heroines.

Daag, Silsila, Doosra Aadmi, Kabhi Kabhi... these were all Yash Chopra masterpieces before Bollywood ever heard about Sridevi. There are more of course.

In fact, his downfall started with Chandni and Lamhe. While aesthetically pleasing, they were rather silly films in comparison with his earlier work.

I have the same soft corner for bookworms. But well-read is something else, no? Sonam claims to read a lot. So does Twinkle. Neither of them comes across as a deep thinker which makes me believe they read light books and that only. Which is perfectly fine, but they seem to imagine that makes them well read. Kajol is in the same category except her personality is kind of abrasive, and her image built carefully to project intellectual persona. But her interviews smack of ignorance and arrogance.

Harsh Kapoor does show signs of intelligence, I agree. Problem is it comes across as though he believe himself to be better than others. Maybe his age.

The only one I've ever heard seriously mention books in Bollywood (mainstream screen personalities) is probably SRK. The way he speaks about something he's read gives you the impression he has given thought to it. Either that or he is a superlative actor.

Harsh's choices are good. And he does seem to believe that he's not getting his due in Bollywood. But he's too choosy and does not work continuously. Plus he does not play the PR games of 'date-my-co-star' or even network/pander to get plum roles. All the three Kapoor children seem very conscious of their position as AK's kids. But at least he doesn't have the foot in the mouth disease like Sonam or brag like Rhea. SRK is in another class altogether. He's not only well read but also charming and witty. He can tweak his personality to suit the show/audience/interviewer without alienating anybody. The audience on Kapil Sharma's show love him quite as much as that of say Rajeev Masand's.

Amitabh Bachchan is overrated. There, I said it. I think he played a type of character that resonated with the audience of the time and he just kept on playing it. It's gotten to the point where Bwood folks are almost compelled to pay him homage and hail him as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Kajol has wasted her talent. All the Dharma /YRF movies have done her no justice whatsoever. I was rewatching Fanaa the other day and realized just how much actual acting talent she has. Screeching in uptight roles alongside SRK for all these years has appeased the masses but done nothing for her acting legacy.

Someone said it upthread but Madhuri is a really average actress. But she is a STAR.

Speaking of star, Katrina has shades of Madhuri in the sense that when there's music and Katrina onscreen, all eyes are on her, irrespective of who she is sharing screen space with. But again, she's not that bad of an actress as she's made out to be. That's a lazy narrative at this point, quite frankly.

If Ranbir Kapoor was actually Ranbir Sharma (or any other last name) he wouldn't be hailed as the best actor of his generation. A very good one, no doubt, but not the best. Nope.

I get why Salman Khan circa 1990s was a star. I don't get why Salman Khan post 2010 is a superstar. I really don't. 😕
