Are South Indian Films Overrated ? - Page 7

Don't get the hype. They are as pathetic as Bollywood. At least some Bollywood ke log are good looking.

Malayalam film industry is making finest films in the country, they have language barriers as they are limited a a few states. When bollywood copies South movies left right and center, they are obviously not overrated

Also, a lot of actresses in south movies ARE north Indian.

South Indians dig north Indian features as far as I've seen in their movies. Specially masala movies.

There's always this weird looking guy and then over the top milky white beautiful actress from the north.

I'm not saying that south Indians can't be conventionally beautiful, it's what I've noticed.

This is a headscratcher comment.

Vyjayantimala, Rekha, Hema Malini, Jayaprada, Sridevi, Tabu, Vidya Balan (before weight gain), Aishwarya Rai, Asin, Deepika. Some of them RULED Bollywood. I considered adding Ileana D'Cruz since she's Goan, but I'm not sure peeps here consider Goa south India. Even Priyanka Chopra is part Malayali. Not to forget that male eye candy, John Abraham.

Yeah, in recent days, southern movies have gravitated to light-skinned north Indian women, but that's actually a fascination for skin color, not features. From which angle does Alia or Kareena look better than anyone in the list above? Or even an Anushka? Ananya? Shraddha?

Actually, Bollywood has the same fixation with light skin. Katrina Kaif? Alia Bhatt? They're part caucasian. Not exactly north Indian. Those who don't fit the fair criteria get skin lightening. KJo even had designer babies.

The "conventional" beauty you're talking about seems to be all south Indian. North either borrows the south Indian beauties or imports firangs. I'm not saying there is no conventional beauty in the north, but seems to be minimal (yes, I'm paraphrasing quoted post on purpose so peeps can see how offensive that statement was).

Reita Faria - Goan

Sushmita Sen - Bengali

Aishwarya Rai - South Indian (Kannadiga, I think)

Diana Hayden - Hyderabadi

Priyanka Chopra - part Malayali

Lara Dutta - part Anglo Indian

There is one Yukhta Mookhey and one Manushi Chillar who could be considered pure north.

As far as male beauty is concerned: it was only late 90s/early 2000s onward that male actors paid attention to face and body. Amitabh was not exactly handsome. Rajesh Khanna was for sure. Not Jitendra or Rakesh Roshan or even Rishi, all of who looked perfectly average except for their skin color which I personally found too pasty.

Then came Salman and Aamir, but there was also a Shah Rukh. Hrithik the Greek God, looks inhumanly beautiful, I grant you. But how is Varun or Ranbir or Ranveer or Ayushman or even Shahid considered above average?

For each of them, south India has a Surya, a Madhavan, a Dulquer, an Ajith. All of them average, but all of them miles beyond BWians in actual talent.

I just looked up these names and they look hideous. Ranbir Ranveer and Ayushman are very sexy and can give pure sex. I prefer them to these names you wrote

Wasn't it on IF that Ranbir was called Neetu in drag/kaka, Ranveer an electrocuted monkey, and Ayushman bland/Dilli ka launda?😆

I'm not using the epithets on them, simply pointing out it has been said. IMO, they're all extremely average. Nothing wrong in it, but BW is no reservoir of male beauty. One Hrithik doesn't make up for the strictly average rest.

Sorry but they’re so much better than these other names that you’re mentioned.

Also - what happened to not judging looks? I can’t like Janhvi for her plastic face but you can call Ranbir average ?

Anyway, the thread kind of devolved from quality of movies to grading beauty of actors.
