* Not a Deepika' fan here, neutral to her.
*Making this thread after watching day in day out harassment & bullying she has been subjected to, mocking her "superstar status" ...
Just want to convey that NOT EVEN A SINGLE SUPERSTAR has any box-office pull on day one.
Examples:
* Biggest female superstar Sridevi's much celebrated and SUCCESSFUL movie English vinglish collected 2 crores 32 lakhs FIRST DAY.
*Sridevi's next venture Mom, after a successful English vinglish , had a 2 crore 56 lakh day one.
*Next BIGGEST FEMALE SUPERSTAR (and my favorite) Madhuri Dixit had a 1 crore 85 lakh opening day for her most anticipated and most promoted comeback in aaja nachle
* Much promoted movie of superstar MADHURI and JUHI CHAWLA "TOGETHER" , gulaab gang had a 1 crore 60 lakh day one (total dhamaal & kalank had ENSEMBLE CAST, so we obviously cannot count them as the SOLO FEMALE SUPERSTAR OPENINGS).
* Even in MADHURI'S MOST PRIME YEARS after the biggest historical hit hum aapke hain kaun 1994 and the blockbuster Raja in 1995, her next big venture with YRF Prem Granth in 1996 had just 52 lakh day one opening, which equals to almost 5 crores as of today adjusted net, shows that female superstars dont have a pull EVEN AT THEIR PRIME, if audience feels the film lacks entertainment, and is very dry/preachy (was the case with prem granth).
(Madhuri's similar movie MRITYU DAND , released in her prime years, having similar disturbing & dry format as of Chapak, and an unknown hero Ayub Khan opposite her, hardly did 13 lakh day one business, which equals to just 2-3 crores adjusted net as of today, is another MAJOR example, in context with Chapak)
* NO EVEN A SINGLE SUPERSTAR be it SRIDEVI, MADHURI, JUHI OR KAJOL (dushman..prime example) HAVE A SINGLE MOVIE IN THEIR ENTIRE CAREER WHICH LIKE CHAPAK, DOES NOT HAVE A POPULAR MALE LEAD, AND DID A GREAT DAY ONE BUSINESS. (this seals all the upcoming anti remarks in this therad).
* I love PeeCee for her wonderful performances & her bindaas personality, but the fact is that the 8 crores opening day of MARY COM was because of the film been heavily promoted based on the much loved athlete of India Marycom, people flocked to theaters mainly to see her life story, just like Farhan's bhaag milkha bhaag, not due to Farhan, but due to the real life Milkha Ji, else we can see how much other mainly solo film of Peecee and even Farhan earned on day one.
Its not a thread for bashing and trolling, but just a heartfelt one.
As I said, not a fan of Deepika, I didn't even read much about what she said in her interviews during last many months and hardly read anything on the long threads on her day in day out on this forum, as she hardly interests my attention, but watching the kind of backlash she received for Chapak's first day opening, I felt real bad for her, hence opened this thread to state some undeniable facts.
