Isn't it better to have someone questioning things even though they sometime can be wrong or act in an hypocritical manner than someone wgo doesn't say anything at all ? I wonder.

Sometimes it sure is annoying when celebs talk about certain issues but how many times have they risen some issues and brought it in the face of the world to see ?

That’s tricky. Let’s take Sonam for example. She was always outspoken and raised awareness about important issues. Women’s safety and rape culture being one of the big ones. But then when she kept quiet when Salman made his rape joke or the Hirani issue ( I don’t care if he was never charged in a court of law, at the height of the MeToo movement Sonam chose to imply that the woman was lying) she sends a very disturbing message that rules don’t apply to her friends and/or that she’s not willing to put herself in a difficult position by calling out powerful people. By the way I’m not just targeting Sonam with these examples. A lot of woke feminist A listers showed their hypocrisy with both of the above instances. Which brings us to your question, is it better to speak up sometimes even if you falter and have hypocritical moments? I’m not sure because sometimes by showing your hypocrisy you might do more damage to the cause you were supporting.

I see what you mean.

But still feel it's important to raise awawareness -without shaming people for their different views.

Then again, maybe celebs should choose more wisely which subject is really close to their heart or maybe they should think twice before making a statement.

@bold yeah totally agree. It is always better to question things. None of us are perfect or infallible. We make mistakes and learn. I also abide by the idea (or atleast try) that just because someone is acting hypocritical, he/she shouldn't be discredited forever. Same way, I also wouldn't blame the instagrammer since he/she is also just questioning Sonam even though it could be just out of hate. Nothing wrong in calling Sonam out. I don't like Sonam at all, she is annoying to me both offscreen and onscreen but yeah I wouldn't say that she is the only one doing this.

Sonam's logic is what the issue is here. You can't just say the whole world is effed up but they treated me well as a "brown girl"

Sis, human rights are literally being stolen and ppl are being treated like dirt, but please continue lining your pockets and fake conscience.

As much as I like sonam for trying to be woke, she was so off mark here. I just can't with the influencer community right now. This whole influencer thing needs to end asap

Absolutely people should raise awareness. Agree with that. Generally speaking the main problem with Bollywood is that it’s a very small community with people working and being active in it for two three generations. A lot of familiarity and emotional connections. There’s also a lot of monopolizing going on by the few in power and control. There’s no way a Bill Cosby counterpart in Mumbai would have gone to jail or even tried and shunned.

I agree with Bollywood being as good as a mafia and there being a law of omerta. What with speculations that some big names I Bwood should have been named while the Me Too movement was taking place. And what with the constanr silence surrounding pedophilia (this one is really weird)

But I wonder if Hollywoof i's such a better place because while the likes of Bill Cosby, R. KELLY, Weinstein or Seventh Heaven actor (the one who plays Eric Camden the pastor) have been outed they still were known within the industry for doing what they did for years or even decades and no one said anything until they became as good as as been or angered those they shouldn't have.

That's why I feel it's as good that celebs use their voice to raise awareness to some issues but at the same time don't really take them seriously because they do do it for their com. They are opportunists especially in this age of social media and being woke and aware but it doesn't bother as I know mostly follow celebs I like.

True but I feel more and more annoyed at people being outraged by some countries and not by others. That's why it kinda got to me.

As an instagrammer, it might have been more interesting if they did a whole story or a post pointing out different facts and not only 1 celeb for 1 event in 1 problematic country.

Saudi Arabia is considered by many muslims as non muslim country, especially the regime. They give no respect to other Muslim fraction believes and their treatment of Shia community is well known.

So yes whoever supports SA regime should be called out and also who support those countries who are doing systematic genocide like Israel.
