When their lives will be at stake then no one will dare to commit such crime. Dragging the case for months is not going to help.

I understand your pov.. I am sorry if I sounded rude. but my point is our law system don't treat all cases as the same. Just because some accused in the past were framed or some cases in the past were corrupted that doesn't mean all cases are possibly the same.

So I hope stricter and clearer laws are announced and stricter actions are taken for such heinous crimes. It does no good to drag the cases for months.

No need to apologize. I was snarky. So any rudeness is due.

Our laws are strict. The rules of criminal processing, handling of evidence, the burden of proof, and the entire template of prosecutorial conduct in our country are actually good (barring exceptions like two-finger virginity tests and lack of marital rape laws)

Unfortunately, our law enforcement tends to be inefficient, incompetent, indifferent, and downright lazy in many circumstances. In this very case, the police initially refused to file a report, they told the victim's parents that she must have eloped. The Telangana Police were rude and disrespectful to the victim's family. They slut-shamed the victim until her charred remains were found and the case blew up.

They are not heroes. They do not care for justice. They do not care for victims. They care only for their reputations. What was done was not for justice but to save their faces after their royal fuckups.

The last thing we need is more leeway to these broken systems to do as they please. We have the laws - we need the system employees to follow them.

- File an FIR and investigate every report of sexual assault and rape

- Treat victims and their families with compassion and respect

- Follow proper procedures and support victims through the collection of the rape kit. Don't bounce between police and hospitals shouldering the burden of producing a rape kit on them

- Stop making assumptions about the victim's character and focus on gathering evidence with integrity

- Keep diligent and thoughtful investigation records, so that the burden of proof is met

Most importantly we should be outraged and take swift action when people eve tease or grab at women in public transit. We should be outraged and take swift action when women are afraid of stalkers or men persistently wooing them. Nip it in the bud. Try to stop rape before it happens. Women should not have to be charred to death or have their entrails ripped out to finally get people to care.
