Minnie was already guilt-ridden from the hospital conversation onwards. She could see how much he loved her and cared for her well-being, the fact that he was willing to give up the chance of being with Babita just for her.

Everything was in their eyes including, as you said, their inner battle with their emotions while trying to act as if all was fine in the world. The "bohot takleef hui, but it's ok" line just pierces might heart every single time and the background music doesn't help. Minnie's heart is in her eyes as she sees the effect of her outburst on him and knows how much takleef he feels indeed, yet tries to keep up appearances in front of the very woman this whole 'fight' was about.

When she said she was too heavy for him, it was nothing to do with her body weight but everything to do with all the baggage she came with, which was something he had never considered too big a burden. I do love the haq with which he shushes her and takes her upstairs - AD did a great job with that stoic face which showed HS' self control as he took his daughter to her room, tucked her in and was about to leave.

It's was a great follow up to their fight in the room when he finds out exactly what he means to her, how much she idolizes him, wants to be like him, what a huge impact he's had on her life, that she considered him her Hanuman Uncle. Before all this, I don't think he'd ever imagined he was that important to her, enough to change her views about life, love, and men. Sure, he knew she adored him as an uncle, but to have been placed on a pedestal like that and then to somehow have disappointed her for failing to meet the expectations she had of him, which he had previously never known, was too much for him to take. I can't forget HS' stunned face when she tells him to his face that he was her hero, her idol.

All her words were running through his mind and he was hurt for having unknowingly hurting her too. Sigh...

I have been wondering what it is that makes this bond so touching to watch, compared to other (also) adorable father-daughter relationships on screen. I think it's because rarely on ITV are we show the emotions of men in their roles as father with this level of detail, with the nuances that we see in PB. A mother's emotions and her pain and fears are quite often focused on but fathers don't often get this treatment on screen. On top of that, they have no blood or legal ties when this scene happened, yet HS' ability to understand Minnie so so well, despite knowing her only for a few months, was just phenomenal to watch.

She made him a father and he made her a daughter.

You put it so beautifully Jean, I am a fan of your writing now 😆

Thank you dear. ☺️

I wrote so many long analysis posts and could have done my thesis on this show at one point. I feel so stupid now.

I just watched this bit..the gifs , I can't thank you enough for taking the time out and making them for us 😳 that no-nonsense and right which he showed at that moment was something else 😊 an then that Thank You from Mini just broke his resolve!! Both of them complemented each other perfectly in that scene:) I can rewatch it countless times seriously!

You're welcome, Meghna :)

Actually, I want to make more gifs from this Thank You scene but I've fallen behind....lol hopefully later today....the more we talk about this scene, the more I feel like capturing the nuances of their expressions.

As I rewatch old scenes, the bg score stays with me as well.....very rarely do shows have such effective use of bg score as I've seen in this show.....a couple of their theme pieces are just so excellent for the emotional/poignant moments.

The music is a character of its own that is blended in so beautifully. Some pieces are almost operatic, like the one that plays when HS wipes the dust off Imarti's photo after hanging it on the wall, or the one that plays when Imarti takes a last look around the haveli.

THIS. So much....You put it perfectly👏. I still find it hard to put a finger on what exactly became so compelling to watch about the HS-Mini relationship....they aren't the first adorable father-daughter relationship on TV....they aren't the first who are more like friends either......there have been such relationships before on TV.....but these two somehow managed to travel a unique gamut of emotions in this bonding......most relationships build on one or the other already craving a guardian or father figure in their life.....but it wasn't like that with these two.....they somehow gravitated towards each other as peers.....neither was looking for a savior when they met each other.....but they still somehow became each other's heroes.....I think that is what drew me in....they looked up to each other without it being a typical hero worship case.....they fought, clashed, hurt, laughed, loved together.....almost every shade of human emotion explored with this level of detail....as you said, that is what we don't get to see on ITV otherwise......that is what these two gave us. The emotions of men as well as the emotions of a child explored with this level of complexity.

And since you brought up the room scene, I had to go back and look up the bits you mentioned and ended up making a whole new gif-set on it.....lol.

It's such a powerfully emotional scene....and I might as well label this "Parenting in two acts"

Act 1: The helplessness you feel when you lose the trust of your child...and you realize the fragile nature of a child's pure heart that can be so easily disillusioned

Act 2: When nothing else matters in the face of your child's pain.

You can feel helpless, you can feel hurt, but you can't stop being a parent. Mini was a headstrong child, disillusioned with life and relationships and so she craved a simple, uncomplicated existence with this little family she had built with her Babes and Hanuman Uncle....she didn't yet understand the emotions of the adults here so she lashed out as a hurt kid......and HS could only watch helplessly as her pain washed over him. There was nothing he could say in that moment to make her understand.

But when it mattered, he didn't let this get in the way of taking care of her either.
