Naina anxiously was waiting for Chachaji at the arrival gate, thinking about the next steps. Though she was clear that she will be marrying Sameer with or without approval, the blessings of Chachaji would bring peace to her aching heart.
Some are scared of clowns, some of heights or falling. Naina was not afraid of any of that, not spiders, not snakes, or the dark. What was scaring her, if Chachaji didn't support her decision? Various scenarios played in her mind making her more nervous she could feel her pulse pounding in her temples.
Chachaji was the only one who saw her more clearly as a person rather than a problem. He always understood the significance of things why hurtful comments hurt and why slights from Tayiji could wound so much. He was that listening ear the one who would wrap her in his love and kind words. He was her number one supporter, her role model. So why would he oppose her decision? The other side of her brain argued, she never demanded anything from Chachaji even if her heart had desired, always took what was needed. But today she wanted this happiness, would she be able to place her wish, or would she compromise with her dreams?
Sameer raised his eyebrows questioning her and she just replied
Saham si gayi hai khwaishein
Zarooratoun ne shayad unchi aawaz mein baat ki hogi
(Saham : Scared, Khwashein : Desires )
He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her close, gently rubbing her arm. She sunk into the warmth of his side, appreciative of the simple gesture. He was aware of what was going on in her mind. " Main houn saath sab accha hi hoga" he reassured her and said
"Jo rishthey gehre hotein hai
woh apnepan ka shor nahi machathey. Chachaji hamari baat samjhenge " The sense of peace and calm at her core returned as his energy flowed through her.
Preeti shouted at the top of her voice seeing Naina and rushed towards her into a bone-crushing hug. "Kya baat hai behen tu toh ek dum kheli kheli lag rahi hai ? Jijaji toh jaan lewa hai , unhi ke pyar ka asar lag raha hai " Naina blushed at the compliment " Arey Arey tamatar bhi sharma jayenge tere yeh laal gaal dekh kar , Jijaji ka pyar ka rang saaf dikh raha hai tere chehare pe " Preeti teased her looking at Sameer. It was strange how he could blush at praise but smiled at her
"Jijaji aap bhi ??" Preeti looked at him puzzled. Looking at Naina Sameer replied.
"Bas ek hi Nigah se woh gazal hazar keh deti hai
Jo Gaalib jaise na keh paya woh har baar keh deti hai " . Ab aapki behen ke pyar mein aur kya haal ho sakta hai?
"Pyar kis chidiya ka naam hota hai yeh tak pata nahi tha aur dekhiye Naina devi ki aakhoun mein ab sirf pyar dikhta hai aapke liye" Preeti replied holding Naina's face fondly. She was happy that her sister's smile had returned.
Sameer touched the feet of Chachaji and Chachiji as soon as he saw them. The glow on Naina's face and the glint in her eyes indicated that she was happy. Chachiji chuckled and was almost relieved at the sight of Naina's smile. She had seen Naina like a lifeless soul when she left them after her forced marriage.
"Kitni sundar lag rahi hai na ji hamari Naina" saying this Chachiji placed a small dot of kajal at the back of her ear. Chachaji nodded and in a guilt-ridden tone said "Mujhe maaf kar de, mai nahi tha meri beti ko sahara dene ke liye usko muskil se bachane ke liye" as he embraced her. She glanced at him and she could see a guilty look on his face.
" Aap nahi the par aapki di huvi himmat , shiksha aur sahi galat ki samaj saath thi na. Tabhi toh itne bade faisale le payi. Ab jo huva woh kismat ka khel tha koi bhi kuch nahi kar sakta tha. Ab Sameer saath hai mujhe ab koi chinta nahi " she looked lovingly at Sameer, his eyes reflecting the same warmth to her.
After persistence from Sameer, Chachaji agreed to stay at his house with the family. The continuous chattering, friendly atmosphere after a long time, Sameer soaked in the warmth and felt at home.
Later that evening, Chachaji discussed with Sameer about his apprehensions. Naina had suffered a lot, Chachaji wanted an assurance from Sameer that he would take care of Naina and give her the respect she deserved. Chachaji knew few of the educated men in society disrespected their divorced wives and ill-treated them.
"Mai Naina ko pehli baar toh bacha na saka par is baar yeh tasali karna chahata houn ki mai apni gudiya ka haath sahi haath mein de raha houn. Uske chehare ki hasi bata rahi hai ki woh khush hai par ek baap ka dil hamesha ghabra tha hai jab woh apni beti ka haath kisi ke haath mein deta hai " he poured his heart to Sameer.
Sameer understood Chachaji's apprehensions. Sameer talked about his life and family background. " Jahan bacha apni maa baap ki ungli pakad kar sambhalta hai maine khud ko akele hi sambhal hai. Maa hote huve bhi woh mere liye kabhi nahi thi. Nanu ne hi sambhala aur wahi meri maa, pita mere dost the. Aaj jo bhi unka hi aashirwad aur parwarish hai. Nanu ke guzarte hi maine sab rishtoun ke asli rang dekhein, meri khud ki maa ne kabhi mujhe nahi samjha. Woh kehtein hai na
"Yunhi ek choti se baat pe Talukaat purane bigad gaye
Muda yeh tha ki Sahi kya hai aur wohh Sahi kaun pe ulaj gayein
Khud ko sahi sabit karte karte thak gaya aur phir maine kabhi unki taraf dekha nahi. Nanu ki property divide karke mujhe mera hissa diya. Ab unke liye mai kaun houn yeh bhi shayad unhe yaad nahi. Jab zindagi andheroun mein batak rahi thi Naina ke pyar ne roshni di , ek jeene ki umeed di." Chachaji understood by his talks that he had equally suffered and always craved for love and family. He observed that Sameer's life revolved around two people, one was his Nanu and the other Naina.
"Naina meri zindagi hai Chachaji, usne itna pyar diya hai ki jo kami thi woh ab nahi hai. Uske chehare ki hasi hi mere jeene ki wajah hai. Aur rahi baat divorce ki yeh mere liye koi mayine nahi rakhta . Mera rishta Naina se ruh (Soul) ka hai .
Kuch log kismat ki tarah hote hai jo dua se milte hai
Aur kuch log dua ki tarah hote hai jo kismat badal dete hai "
"Naina meri wahi dua hai jo maine maangi hai aur woh dua banke meri zindagi badal di hai ". he summarized his say. Chachaji respected Jay Prakash Maheshwari ji a lot, his upbringing reflected in Sameer words. Sameer also asserted explicitly that his mother and her side of the family would not be part of the marriage. His cousin Munna's family, friends, and some close associates of Nanaji would be part of the marriage.
After dinner, they discussed marriage preparations and the finalization of marriage dates. They already had two dates from Panditji. The earliest date was after three weeks and the next two months later.
"Beta agar tum idhar Hyderbad mein hi Shaadi karna chahatein ho toh hum yahi kar saktein hai. Mai nahi chahata ki Bhai sahab aur Bhabhiji aur koi zeher ya sazish karein. Mai unhe bulana nahi chahata. Jo unhone Naina ke saath kiya unse mera ab koi rishta nahi hai. Naina ki Shaadi acche se ho. Kya kehtein ho? " Chachiji questioned Sameer.
Sameer who was quietly listening to all this said: " Chachaji meri do shartein hai". Naina looked at him with confusion not able to understand, why is he talking about conditions now, and what are those? Why hasn't he discussed it with her before about it?
"Mera matlab requests hai pehli, Shaadi teen hafte baad Ahmedbad mein hi hogi aur woh bhi aapke ghar ke saamne. Dusri shaadi ka saara kharcha meri taraf se hoga , yeh dusri wali request mere Nanu ki aakhri icha hai " he added before there was any protest.
"Beta ladki wale shaadi kartein hai tum toh !! " Sameer interrupted " Ladki wale apne dil ka tukda detein hai dusre parivar ko banane ke liye . Yeh kya kam hai Chachiji ? Maa Baap apni beti ko sahi sikhsha sanskar de kar unhe dusre ghar ki shobha badhane ke liye bhej detein hai. Ladki apna parivar chod kar dusre parivar ko apnati hai. Toh phir yeh Shaadi dhoom dham se ladki wale hi karein?, dahez de? yeh kahan se sahi hai ? Yeh maange galat hai. Mera toh yeh manna hai ki Ladke wale sab shaadi ka kharcha utha ke is pavitra aur anmol rishte ki shuruwat karni chahiye. Hum jaise padhe likhe yeh nahi sochenge toh samaj kaise sudrega. Kyun aaj bhi beti ek bhuj banke hai? . Jo maa baap apni jigar ka tukda de rahe hai unhe yeh reeti rivaz, daan dahej se kyun aur pareshan karein ? Yahi soch meri hai . Naina mere liye anmol hai aur bas aap usko khushi khushi mere ghar vida kijiye. Shaadi ki tayari meri zimedaari. Kal hi hum yahi se shaadi ke saree, lehnga aur jevar kharidenge"
Chachaji was now very happy and content. He couldn't have found such a perfect boy for his girl. He beamed and his eyes twinkling with pride.
A smile of joy and satisfaction lit up Naina's eager face. She understood the reasons behind his requests. She remembered how Tayiji always said that she was not good looking and her father didn't have enough money to give dowry. Sameer had always protested such thoughts. But today he had put it in action.
Sameer apart from the stand he took he wanted Naina to enjoy her marriage and exert all her rights. He knew if Chachaji would take care of marriage expenses she will not demand that she wished. He wanted her every wish to be fulfilled. He still remembered her words "Pata hai Sameer , jab bhi kisine bhi kuch kharida mere liye, mujhe hamesha ek ehsaan jaisa lagta tha. Par aaj yeh sab tum laye ho toh aisa lagta hai ki yeh mera haq hai. " he wanted her to enjoy their marriage as a free woman. She looked at him and Sameer could see the eyes pride with joy, looking at her with all the warmth he said
Tum chup rahein paigam-e-mohabbat yahi toh hai
Aakhen jhuki nazar ki kayamat yahi toh hai
Mehfil mein log chaunk pade mere naam par
Tum muskura diye meri kimat yahi toh hai
(paigam-e-mohabbat - Message of love.)
There was a loud applause and appreciation from both Chachaji and Preeti " Wah Wah !! " Chachiji could not understand the Urdu words and Chachaji had to explain and later she appreciated Sameer's love in her Bollywood style.
It was decided that the ladies will sleep in Sameer's room and the men will sleep in the living room. After seeking Chachaji's permission they both sat in the terrace garden watching the moon. How were they supposed to put their love into mere words? An entire ocean of ink wouldnât be enough to describe them. They were a starburst of light amongst the darkening dusk. They were all the stars in the sky condensed into a single point. Together, they were both a beautiful dream. In three weeks they would be married. Sameer wound his arms around her shoulder and looked at her. Their eyes talked about so many things. Her eyes were just so perceptible. It spilled poetry with melody and sadness. It gleamed with her experiences, her thoughts, her nature. His eyes showcased shades of the galaxy they had so many stories of love, laughter, past, and present. He pulled her close in his arms and she let her head rest upon his chest. After a time she withdrew to gaze at the face she loved so much. Sameer glided his hand over her skin to her face, "Mere armaan kya hai aaj tak nahi kaha hai. Hai na ? Kitna pyar aata hai tum par?" Naina grinned, he said the exact same thing every time. "Nahi," she shook her head and fought away the grin. Sameer's hand had migrated to her hair, pushing it back from her face. " Tumhe sunna hai kitna pyar aata hai?" Naina heard the words before he said them, folding her lips inwards. As always she dropped her gaze before meeting his, there was an intensity to it, like his love was kerosene and she was his only flame.
"Humein chalna chahiye, bahut der ho gayi hai . Tum aise hi dekhtein rahoge aur sapne sajate rahoge". As she got up he too stood up and held her hand and then leaning a little closer he whispered in a husky voice
Nazare unko hi dekhna chahe toh meri aakhoun ka kya kasoor hai?
Khusboo unki hi aaye toh meri saansoun ka kya kasoor hai?
Waise toh Sapne puch kar nahi aate
Sapne hi tumhare aaye toh meri raatoun ka kya kasoor hai?
"Naina tumhe sapne nahi aatein hamare ? Ab shaadi bhi hone wali hai ?
She could feel her heartbeat, every single pound in her chest. The hair on her neck stood to attention, as a militia of chills march down her spine when his warm breath fanned her neck.
Aakhein padho aur jaan lo hamari razaa kya hai?
Har baat lafzoun mein ho toh mazaa kya hai ? saying this she pushed him and ran inside. Sameer kept looking at her, this girl was an expert in keeping his heart beating without her he was sure it would simply stop
Naina was amazed at the homework Sameer had done for their marriage shopping. He had booked an appointment with the designer near Begumpet. It had exclusive garments crafted by top designers and fashion houses according to the latest trends.
Naina argued with Sameer looking at the prices, why they had to get such costly sarees but Sameer insisted and said that he wanted to give her the best. Without looking at the prices he asked her to pick whatever she liked. "Bahut kharcha ho raha hai meri savings bhi le lo ? " He smiled " Abhi nahi , jab zaroorat hogi maang lounga". When the different sarees were displayed, Naina specifically asked for various shades of red, remembering his dream. Naina kept glancing at him seeking his approval. Even though she knew he would allow her to take whatever she liked but she wanted the same color as he had seen in his dreams.
"Sameer itne sare laal rang hai tumhi kaho kaunsa loun? Samaj nahi aa raha hai ? ". Sameer asked for a specific shade of red, Chachiji was surprised the men she knew couldn't differentiate between red and maroon or matter of fact all colors looked same to them, here she saw a man who was checking shades in red and also asked the designer for a lightweight silk material. A silk saree painstakingly hand-woven with intricate designs and embellishments was chosen. It was the blend of modern and traditional He didn't want his Naina's delicate body to bear the weight of a heavy one and also at the same time wanted her to be dressed like a queen. Once the saree was finalized he looked for lehengas and different dresses for each occasion and the other accessories that could go with them. Sameer bought a beautiful lehenga for his Saali when Chachiji protested " Damadji se kaise le saktein hai? "Damad baad mein apna beta hi samjiye aur, pyar se de raha houn inkar mat kariyega " .
Naina stood in front of the mirror trying the Saree, Sameer stood next to her "Waise meri theeki mirchi ke liye yeh rang kaisa laga. Pasand aayi meri choice?? "
She glared at him " Mai Mirchi ki tarah thiki houn ?? "
He replied instantly in a low voice " Abhi tak taste nahi kiya , shaadi ke baat bata dounga thiki ho ya meeti ho " the hint of a self-satisfied smirk playing across his lips.
She could feel the heat growing in her cheeks. Not only her cheeks, but her whole face turned red. Though the ears had been hidden behind her hair, it was obvious that they were as rosy as her face, he enjoyed the color on her face and leaning a little he whispered again "Blouse dori-wala banana" hearing this her shyness was like the blush of roses. The color infused cheeks dimpled with the blossoming smile and her eyes shone in a way that only deep happiness can bring. She nodded without even looking at him. Before he could say anything she ran towards Preeti and took her to see a few other things she needed and calm her heart which still was beating terribly fast. His gaze was fixed at her while he answered to Chachaji and Chachiji. Once Naina's shopping was done they went to Men's section for Sameer. A cream color wedding sherwani richly embroidered resham work on brocade with a front button closure was selected and a light blue cotton silk kurta for the Mehendi function. Chachaji paid for Sameer's dresses saying this he should not deny as its a token of their love.
Later Naina selected a gold necklace with ruby and emerald set that went along with her Saree. While trying out the Payal Sameer looked at the black thread that was tied to her ankle
Woh payal nahi pehenti hai
Ek kaale daage se kehar barsati hai .. his heart murmured. Chachaji was leaving the next day. Sameer did few calls in Ahmedabad for all the preparations and gave Chachaji's number for assistance. Munna had already taken a week's leave.
Sameer and Naina announced their marriage in office, thinking it would be a shock but almost everyone in the office had already guessed. Divya approached first and Congratulated them. " Yeh hamare liye surprise nahi hai, saaf dikhta hai tumhari aakhoun mein ek dusre ke liye pyar. Tum lakh chupao duniya ko pata chal jayega . Itne bhi bewakoof nahi hai. " everyone including Karthik teased them. Sanjay was heartbroken with the pain he had also got a strong message from Sameer not to look at Naina ever again.
Divya Sonal decided to be on Sameer's side "Hum to ladke wale hai , Pandit aa raha hai na kal woh toh tumhari side mein hoga." . Marriage cards which they had printed for office collegues arrived in afternoon. Both looked at it fondly their names written together " Sameer Sang Naina along with a small write up
Once in awhile, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives us a fairytale.â
Together with our families, {Naina & Sameer} would love to have you join us as we begin our Happily Ever After
Tracing their names lightly Sameer said
Accha lagta hai tera naam mere naam ke saath
Jaise koi subah judi ho hansi sham ke saath. She leaned on to him hoping for a new beginning
Relationships it does not matter if you are related to someone by blood and DNA, the heart with which we love and are loved, as well as the depth of sincerity of it, is what is really important. To them, family meant putting arms around each other and being there. They wanted only those relationships to be part of their new beginning, hearts that only wished them good.
