Hello Aditi..... surprise us with an update

NOTE

Hello everyone.... A lot is going on in my life and I myself am severely ill from past year or so.... I have just begun to get well.... So here is the thing.... I don't know how many of you are still interested to continue reading this story so please let me know if I should continue.... It may take some time but if you guys are interested then I will start posting new chapters within next few weeks... I just want you all to know that I am thankful that some of you still check on me after my non activity for a year or more.... But I was not healthy enough to write..... So do let me know...

Thank you everyone for such overwhelming response. Thank you so much not only for your lovely wishes but also for the support you gave me even when I was absent for IF. It took me several sittings in the last month to give you this update.... Hope you Enjoy. And I am sorry I couldn't reply to you individually but I am still not well enough to sit and type for a long period. But know this, I read them all and they mean soo much to me I can't express.

Before I start I would just say this is not just an ordinary story. Neither Maan nor Geet are perfect people here. they are both imperfect and here's a story of few people who are no where near perfects. This is the story of their flaws...their imperfections...their incompleteness. Do comment and press like. They inspire me to write better. Part 25

Cupids and confusions

Maan was sitting near the window when his phone rang suddenly. Checking the caller id he saw it was Brij calling....

“What’s up Brij?”

“Maan are you free?”

The agitation in Brij’s voice made Maan alert that something is gravely wrong.

“What’s the matter Brij? You sound tensed?”

“Maan, papa suddenly had a heart attack. I am at leelavati. I am feeling helpless. Do you think you can.....”

“I am coming there. I will be there as soon as possible.”

The drive wasn’t easy. The unsure voice of Brij was haunting Maan. He was soon nearing Leelavati hospital.He tried finding a spot to park his car. Parking spot was always an issue in Mumbai and he didn’t want to get a ticket for breaking law.

Soon he was speeding into the help desk asking for the way to the intensive care unit when he spotted Brij at the bill counter. He thanked the girl he was talking to and walked towards Brij.

“Brij...”

Brij turned back to find Maan. He hugged Maan as if to finally find some support. Maan gestured him to pay the bill. After paying, both started walking towards the floor where Brij’s father was currently being kept under observation.

“What happened, Brij? It seemed quite sudden for uncle to have such massive heart attack?”

Brij pinched the bridge of his nose trying to formulate proper words.

“My mother happened.”

“Meaning?”

“You know how my mom is Maan!! I was chatting with dad about Geetu and suddenly my mother overheard us talking.My mother never had patience for either Geetu or Pari and she immediately started bad mouthing them. I was so used to this verbal abuse I ignored it but maybe dad had too much; I mean he is bearing her for more than half his lifetime now. Dad started protesting and he was shouting at mom. It was like a dam had suddenly burst and years of complaints came out. Dad blamed mom for destroying all our lives. He told mom that it was only because of her that both Yash and Geet left home and that she is making me miserable as well. Dad was so angry and suddenly he developed a chest pain. I brought him here.”

“Where is your mother?”

“She is here as well.”

“Even after all this?”

“She is my mother Maan. I can’t just throw her away. And I could not leave her alone at home. I don’t want her to do something stupid.”

“Hmm. Are you going to inform Geet or Pari?”

“I am not sure. Let’s wait and see.”

When they reached the corridor leading to Intensive Care Unit Maan saw Brij’s mother sitting with Arjun. This was his first meeting with Arjun after Annie’s confession. The brother him wanted to throttle Arjun for hurting Annie but another bigger part of Maan knew Brij was way more important.

Arjun looked up and walked towards them.

Arjun:” Hey Maan, when did you get back?”

Maan:” Late night yesterday.How’s aunty holding up?”

Arjun:” She’s bit disoriented right now. I guess she is feeling guilty for being the cause of heart attack and staying here is causing her more stress. That’s what I wanted to talk about Brij. We can’t keep her here at the hospital. She will be more stressed and I don’t think she has the capability to handle such stress at this stage.”

Brij:” Nobody is there at home Arjun. I know hospital is stressful but I can’t keep her alone at home as well.That will be more dangerous.”

Maan:” But if she is not here at hospital you can call Geet and Pari here. I think that would be better for all party. You will have the necessary familial support we can’t give you no matter how close friends we are. And uncle would love to see Geet once he is up to visitors.”

Arjun:” Who is Geet?”

Brij:” My sister....”

Arjun:” You mean the one who used to be a little spitfire with piggy tails?”

Maan actually smiled as he remembered a long lost memory of little Geet back when he was still in high school.....

Brij:” Oh she is still a spitfire.....only the piggy tails are missing.”

Maan:” Really?”

Brij looked at Maan meaningfully and said,” Really.”

Arjun:” What is going on?”

Maan:” Nothing we need to talk about now. Brij, how about we take Aunty to mansion. There Daadima and Annie can look after her. Rehaan is also there and he can take care of things as well. “

Brij:” That’s actually a very good idea.”

Maan:” Okay, you stay here with uncle and call Geet and Pari. I will take Aunty to mansion.”

Brij was thoughtful. He knew Arjun was dying to have another chance to meet Annie in a neutral environment without Maan so he can rebuild some of the things he had broken in his foolhardy. And Brij can read Maan well to know that Maan knows something and the only thing stopping him from reacting is the situation.Heck, he knew what it is to lose one’s love.... And he wanted Annie and Arjun to have a fair second chance.... Only thing that can stop Maan is now his own story. Oh it is going to be a low blow but if anybody deserves a second chance it was Geet and Brij Handa would never be the overprotective big brother and neither would he let Maan become one..... if Annie decides otherwise he would not interfere but it has to be Annie’s decision..........

Brij thought ruefully,” I never thought I would be playing the role of cupid for my best friends....”

Brij:”Actually Maan, let Arjun take mom at your place.”

Maan:” But Brij....”

Brij:” Listen to me Maan. Mom is comfortable with Arjun and at this juncture we should try to minimize her reactions and Arjun knows the situation here and Daadima well to explain. If required he can stay back a bit and settle your mother before coming back. plus I need you to do something else as well.”

Maan:” What is more important this?”

Brij:” Geet...”

The magic word was spoken and Maan won’t be able to protest... Brij felt bad for manipulating his friend but he needed to see this two interact with each other plus it would give Arjun the needed opportunity.

Maan:” What about Geet?”

Brij:” This is not news I can give over phone Maan and I can’t leave the hospital. They might need mean time. You know how fragile Geet is and you both are friends... Please go and get her. Please Maan....”

Maan thought for a minute and suddenly he understood what Brij was doing. He laughed out loud and both Arjun and Brij were confused.

Maan:” You are the worst matchmaker Brij..... “

Brij smiled sheepishly. After all Maan could read him like a book just like him. Maan turned to give a look at Arjun.

Maan:” Don’t hurt my sister anymore than you already have Arjun. If she asks for time you give her that, if she tells you too back off you back the hell off and if she tells you that she chose Vicky, you respect that. I won’t come between her and you only until you respect the boundaries set by her or I swear to God you would meet Annie’s brother and you won’t like him Arjun, that’s a promise.”

Arjun smiled a bit. He didn’t expect anything less from Maan.

Arjun:” I love her Maan and respect comes in hand in hand with love. I will back off if she falls for somebody else but till then I would be damned if I didn’t try to win her over and if I have to face Annie’s entire family then heck I would do that for her because hell she is worth every bit of it. But this is not about Annie and me.This time is about Brij and I will go there now as only Brij’s friend to help his mother.”

The two friends looked at each other and nodded. Arjun slowly took a disoriented Mrs Handa towards the lift.

Maan watched him go and looked at Brij.

“Do you really want me to go to get Geet or was just a ploy?”

“No. Geet needs to be here and something tells me that only you can bring her here. “

“Hmm. So mind telling me how come you planned being a cupid in middle of a crisis?”

Brij smiled.

“Human brain works in weird way Maan. Anyway, my parents had never really forged any deep emotional bond with any of us. So you see, I do my duty towards them but nothing more. It’s sad, my parents’ had three children yet they couldn’t do right by even one of them.... “

“Still.... It feels weird to see your best friend play matchmaker when his father is in a critical condition?”

“Call it a quirk but I try helping people in love..... May be all this stress is twisting my brain but suddenly watching Arjun’s hopeful face I remembered that long lost romantic heart of mine. I wanted to give him the help I never got.”

“You are a romantic fool at heart Brij!! That sure will ruin the hard and no non-sense divorce lawyer reputation of yours. Is it weird that someone who believes in happily ever after works to help couple break up?”

“It all depends on perspective Maan... You see divorce as breaking up and I see it as giving second chance to people who have made a wrong choice. You are a divorcee yourself. Tell me truly, would you rather have lived with Sam?”

“No, Sam and I wouldn’t have worked.”

“So, in other words both you and Sam have second chance at love. And if that love of yours is my sister Maan then you have hard work cut for you man! As I said, Geet is a spitfire and it will take a lot of work to win her over...”

“I don’t know if I love Geet and I am pretty sure Geet doesn’t love me.”

“Someday Maan, all your confusion will go away and every damn thing would make sense. But go get Geet and Pari.”

“Someday....... well that someday is too far away...”

“I have sent you the address.Please, I need my sister here.”

Maan left yet at back of his mind Brij’s words were ringing. Was this love what he feels for Geet?

Maan stood outside Yash’s flat where currently Geet resides. He rang the bell and waited though he had no idea what to tell Geet or Pari for that matter.

There was female voice asking him to wait. Soon the door opened and Pari stood gobsmacked watching Maan Singh Khurana standing at the door. Though Pari had seen Maan at the firm quite a number of times and Brij was very close friend of Maan, she herself was not and it was very strange watching Maan suddenly appear at her doorway...

“Mr. Khurana....you....here?”

“Pari, hi!!! Can I come in?”

Pari opened the doorway and let him in with a confused look in her face. She couldn’t fathom a reason for Maan to come.

“Umm......sorry for being rude but, why are you here Mr. Khurana?

“Please call me Maan. Is Geet here?”

“Yes but may I know what you want with her?”

“I have work with both of you and time is of essence here. Please get Geet here and make sure Muskaan is inside. This conversation is not for little ears.”

Pari nodded and left thinking how Maan knew about Muskaan or what important work could have brought him at their place.

Geet got up as Pari entered.

“Geet, come outside. Maan is there and apparently he has something important to talk about with both of us.”

“MAAN?”

Geet was as confused as Pari but she followed Pari nonetheless.

Maan looked tensed and worried and Geet felt a strange fear grip her even as she uttered the name,”Maan...”

Maan looked up to find Geet looking at him and even in the midst of all the stress a smile formed on his face.

“Hey Geet!!”

Geet:” Umm.... Nice to see you Maan but why are you here?”

Maan approached Geet cautiously and made her sit on the sofa and looked at Pari.

Maan:” Pari, will you please sit down?”

Once Pari sat down both the women looked at Maan expectantly and Maan cleared his throat as he thought about how to phrase the entire situation. At last he decided that he should just start speaking.

Maan:” Geet, Pari, I know my coming here is unexpected.”

Pari:” You can say that again...”

Maan:” Yeah. Actually I got a call from Brij sometime back asking me to come to Leelavati hospital. Your father has had a heart attack geet...”

Geet:” WHAT?? How is he?”

Maan:” The doctor’s were still treating him when I left. Brij is visibly shaken with the whole affair. It was a fight between your parents that caused the attack and your mother is much disoriented about the entire thing. We have taken your mom to my place so she can rest. Brij needs you Geet. Please come with me to the hospital.”

Geet:” I understand your concern Maan. But I have other responsibilities I cannot forgo to be with the man who was never there for me his entire life and I am not talking about Veerji.”

Thanks for updating. It has been long you have updated. I was missing this. It is great part. I was also amazed like maan when brij was matchmaking in the middle of all the stressful environment. Maan warned arjun to not to hurt aniee. Maan is confused about his feelings towards geet. He is here at geet's place to give her news of her father's heartattack. Waiting for next dear
