My 2 cents as an introvert. A lot of people assume that introverts are shy and antisocial. That is not true. Introverts can be very friendly, personable, and social. They simply prefer solitude.
And there are some pros to being introverted. A social gathering is canceled. Friends are too busy to hangout. Unable to coordinate schedules. No big deal for the introvert. They are more than happy to curl up at home with a good book. Extroverts, on the other hand, get very upset and agitated by this. They get very frustrated when their social time is canceled for any reason. In fact, extroverts are very prone to depression because they need socialization to function and feel connected.
Introverts don't talk much (barring their inner circles) which makes them great listeners. Introverts actually make better customer service and account manager type folks because they listen and people find that reassuring.
Being introvert or extrovert isn't good or bad. It is just a personality trait. They both have their own sets of pros and cons. There are also ambiverts who are in between.
Now I don't know why someone would claim to be an introvert when they are not. My theory is they are ambiverts. Or they are introverts who push themselves to be social and friendly to be "nice" to friends - but are internally dying because of it. I'll accompany friends to social events because they invite me - I'll mingle at family gatherings to be nice - but I get home and am like God - can I just hibernate in my room for a few days and recharge my batteries. Or grass is greener on the other side.
Lol I'm a 100% introvert. Apparently an ISFP according to the test. I crave solitude so much that my family think I'm a weirdo 😂 I don't even socialize online much either. Being socially awkward always makes me wonder how much easier my life would of have been as an extrovert though. Everything seems so much easier for them coz they can socialize well. Whereas I make every interaction awkward. Meeting new ppl is my idea of hell and interviews are just 😱 That's why I can't believe someone would actually want to be an introvert! If I had a choice, i would be an extrovert anyday

"social awkwardness" is not an introvert trait. People can crave solitude but still, be sociable when needed. Avoiding socialization is not the same as being awkward about it.
Although rare, extroverts can be "shy" or "socially awkward". Just because you prefer socialization and need to be around people does not mean you are good at it.
You don't want to be an extrovert per se, but want to improve your social skills.
I could be wrong.
Generally they are extroverts, introverts , ambiverts .
ambiverts - a person who has a balance of extrovert n introvert features in their personality
Now 4th added tat is omnivert

Shyness and social awkwardness isn't the same as introversion even though it can overlap. I can be the most fun person at parties if I'm in the mood but my energy will run out after a while and then I too crave solitude. You can be an introvert and still be secure and confident in yourself while interacting with new people.
I once did not leave my house for 7 days
I have not visited or talked to a friend in 15 years or more
I do not have a single friend
I dont go to malls
I dont go to parties...rarely rarely i would go to wedding/function
I dont like inviting anyone to home
I dont take phone calls....except close family
I have not dialed a number to call someone in 10-15 years...well approximately as there are calls to banks retailers companies lol...though i pay 125 dollar a month
My phone log has incoming from family..no outgoing
Yet
I am not shy
I am not insecure
I am highly confident of my personality and career
I am totally in control of what I am...I am introvert by choice. lol

Lol so its just me? 😂 But @bold is true. My social skills definitely need improving. They have improved with age, but I'm still an awkward person. It's something that I've accepted about myself.
