Both the films are considered as one of the best bollywood films ever made and are compared due to the similarities (3 friends and their differences, other relationship dynamics and all). I have watched ZNMD many times and I can say that I will never get bored of this film ever. Its such a well made film. Every dynamic in thr film was handled perfectly.

So I recently gave DCH a watch and I found it extremely overrated. First, it was extremely slow. I do not dislike long movies but it was just unnecessarily long. Second, I didnt find that bonding between the friends. They did care for each other but never actually understood each other. Even with his friends, sid seemed to feel lonely. Akash was quite insensitive towards his friends, took every of their problem as a joke. They separated easily and akash didnt seem to care even. He was happily roaming around in sydney with shalini. The bonding between tara and sid was presented really well. The film lacked good sense of humour, it was just boring.

On the other hand zindagi na milegi dobara had everything. The bonding, chemistry between the friends was visible. They didnt share everything but they understood each other, were not insensitive. Kabir and natashas relationship problems, imrans problem with his father, arjun realising that he needs to live his life, all the dynamics were well presented and well explored. It had humour, emotions, adventure, love and of course beautiful locations.

Which movie do you like more?

ZNMD for me as it has that feel good factor at every single frame of the movie. However, DCH is a milestone pathbreaker movie and will remain so for breaking the norms and introducing the great movie-making style which BOI calls as ‘European style’ movie making🤣. That’s my fav style of movie-making so yeah ! I dont consider DCH as over-rated simply because of introducing BW to that art !! Baap baap hota hai 😆.

Story, cast, entertainment wise ZNMD for me. 😳 It has the perfect mixture of dream, nostalgia and visual beauty. Every frame is precious and so eye-candy. And my forever crush Dipti Naval is also there. 😳

I like DCH for some of its moments. But, it was focused on love.

But, I love ZNMD. It is not a film. It is a Life changing experience. It was focused on life, love, friendship, parent who abandoned his son. So many scenes were beautifully picturized thru Poetry. The friendship between the trio looked more believable n natural than DCH.

So, it will always be ZNMD for me atleast. And Hrithik looked Hot 😛

In Bollywood history, there's a pre-DCH and post-DCH. The movie was an absolute game changer and its impact on a different breed of story telling. There's a reason it's hated by BOI the most.

Besides its cultural impact, it is also a superior product in my opinion to ZMND.

I guess it’s more to do with what age group you belong.😆

For me DCH is unparalleled mainly because at the time it was made and released we had ott, loud and very formulaic movies being churned out of Bollywood left, right and centre. This was the First one which was shot and shown with Style, class and subtlety. I remember when I saw posters of the movie outside one of the cinema halls in Churchgate, Mumbai I was so intrigued by it and I kept admiring its simple yet charming outlook. It portrayed the youth with a peppy and energetic vibe but most importantly it portrayed contemporary and modern, urban youngsters of India of the times. There had been nothing like it before this.

Offcourse the movie itself proved damn good, every song a hit, the friendship angle beautifully and realistically drawn and superb performances by the entire cast being the cherry on cake . The movie created long lasting impression on mine and many others minds.

Coming to ZNMD, I don’t have much of an opinion. I have no attachment to it of any sort, didn’t find it special in any way at all. I can’t even remember any song except one. But that’s just me and I can totally get youngsters who would have been affected by the this movie the way I was with DCH :)
