DEEPIKA: I'm a proud Indian citizen

Actress Deepika Padukone cast her vote in Mumbai on Monday and soon after she posted a selfie to discard rumours that she won't cast her vote as she holds a Danish passport. The 33-year-old actress wrote a brief but to-the-point note to drive home her point straight and clear to the "confused" lot busy with speculation so far. "Never has there been any doubt in my mind about who I am or where I'm from. So, for those of you confused on my behalf...please don't be! Jai Hind,"

She was born to parents Prakash Padukone and Ujjala Padukone in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1986 but her parents shifted to Bengaluru within a year or so of her birth.While reports of Deepika not being able to cast her vote featured in some tabloids, Bollywood Hungama quoted the actress as saying at an event that: "I have an Indian passport. There are a lot of complications but I'm a proud Indian citizen."

absolutely, though when they missed it last time because of IIFA I was very disappointed. but who cares..??? sometimes Bollywood fraternity need to take the right steps

Deepika has voted before. There are also pictures of her Indian passport on her Insta. Journalists in India can't do a basic fact check. All they want is clickbait articles. They are absolute morons but what's new. I wish they used their efforts to hound Akshay Kumar on why he shows such Deshbakhti when he gave up his Indian Citizenship but no that's not gonna happen when he's parading around being a Bhakt.

so you mean all those people who have gone abroad for jobs or better living conditions or any other life issue, have changed their passport inspite of being born and brought up here, no matter how much they have love for their birth country and still try to bring positive change here back home, can no longer say they love India or any other derivations of the same proclamation....???

If I accept your saying that he is not an Indian citizen, does this disqualify him from making any positive awareness campaigns or movies that will benefit India, issues about unhygienic conditions surrounding menstruation, or deep rooted issues about corruption in Indian military, historical military /political achievement portrayals just because he has a clear tilt towards one national party and not another?

@bold: Huh??? Her point was about Akshay Kumar, how is any of that relevant to Akshay? He has not moved abroad for a job or better living conditions, he has earned tons of fame and fortune from living in India alone, only traded off his Indian citizenship for a Canadian one.

Akshay is unlike any of the people you mentioned above. He lives and works in India. He had no reason to take up Canadian citizenship by renouncing Indian citizenship except if he loves Canada more than India and identifies himself as a Canadian. That is also fine but why propagate a false desh bhakt image when you are anything but that.
