Is it me who found it highly stupid that this movie showed the husband (Gangadhar Rao) who was presumably gay based on historical evidence suddenly turn into straight?

W*F? 😕

The King wore bangles not because he was gay but he felt emasculated by the British East India Company lording over his rule so that Raja didnt even have authority over his own kingdom. The bangles were a self mockery how ineffective and useless he felt as a ruler.
And yeah just because the King loved arts and culture and books didnt mean he was gay either, then many great rulers of the past who were patrons of art and culture would be gay too.

There's a some written history about Gangadhar Rao that he was gay. I have no doubt it touched on this subject in the movie too.

The kind Gangadhar was known to be more interested in creative arts and wore a bangle to remind himself of how powerless he felt with the British taking over Jhansi.
It also highlights he had an effeminate streak in him but that does not make him Gay
