I have never felt that CVs has shown enough on Swati & Munna relationship for us to be so harsh about their love. However, it is true that he did sideline Swati to prioritize on Sameer & Naina's relationship but otherwise I don't believe we got to see their interactions much for me to form too much opinion about them. Actually I personally feel that Swati-Munna relationship is a more realistic depiction of 90s than Sameer-Naina relationship and here is why.
20/21 year old guys weren't considered eligible: While a 20 year old girl was thought of marriageable age, 20 year old guy was not considered eligible for marriage. Sameer's inheritance is very important in making Samaina relationship work. First of all, not all guys at the age of 20-21 usually had money to fight against family to make the relationship work. Sameer could take the stand for Naina but he owes it largely to the fortune that he inherited from his Nanaji. Otherwise, he neither works nor has promising career pathway in life to be eligible candidate for marriage. If he had no money, which parent or guardian will give ones daughter to him? At the age of 20/21, students are digging through their pockets to see if they have money to pay for the food that they brought from the cafeteria and here Sameer was buying mansion. True, Munna also had family business to fall back upon but he does not control that business to take money as he pleases. Even if he urges Swati to elope with him, where will they go and what will they eat? Viewers may say Sameer & Naina will help them out but how long can couples sustain only with the help of their friends?
Guys don't forgive girlfriends so easily after getting engaged to someone else: It is unreal Sameer forgave Naina so easily after getting engaged to be married to Sharad. In real life the guys are not as forgiving as Sameer to take back girlfriends after they get engaged to be married to someone else. Although Munna has a big hand in letting his girl go, he will still be angry that she got engaged to someone else. That is exactly what happens in real life if girls get engaged to be married the guys suffered within themselves but did not forgive the girl. Sameer easy forgiveness was unreal reaction but Munna's lingering anger towards Swati is a real life reaction.
Most young people gave up but still blamed the other one: Most 20 year old guys of the 90s were figuring out what to do with life. Marriage is not quite a dream at that age for them. Just like other young guys, I don't think he was expecting Swati to ask him to marry him for early on in life. In such circumstances, guys usually gave up on their girlfriends but still blamed the girlfriend to bringing them to the situation where he had to so. Munna is actually behaving like a real 20 year old guy who does not know what he wants and how to get to it either. Every person is full of flaws and certain ways that we attempt to defend ourselves that push us away from other people. When a conflict arises, it's easy to fuel the fire with all kinds of proof of our partner's character flaws. If blaming Swati would make him feel better about his situation, he will do so.
Actually, Munna-Swati has real feel to their character. They are raw and real like many young couple of the 90s who were not fortunate enough to end up with each other. Hopefully, we will get to see some conclusion on their relationship.
