Why does a character in a movie always have to be perfect ? And why can't people like an imperfect character? I don't think people are liking Safeena the character because they think what she did in the movie was right.. and neither are people going to take inspiration from this character. People loved SRK in Baazigar.. but that doesn't mean he was perfect or people would follow his footsteps. Its just that.. the character was well written, entertaining, real and well acted. Thats what has made audiences appreciate these flawed movie characters over the years.
As for Alia, IMO this is her career best performance judging from whatever movies I have seen of her which are SOTY, 2 states, BKD, Dear Zindagi, Raazi. And I have a feeling this character will become a memorable one.
Also, agree with all that RTH wrote. People like Safeena exist in millions all over India.. and given her conditions, I can't really blame her for her actions even though i don't support that.
The best thing about this movie is that every damn character is so real.. you can find a Murad, a Safeena, a Moeen, a father like Murad's , a mother like his... anywhere among the underprivileged classes in India.. and what elevated them is the acting by each of the actors.. which is why this movie is gaining so much of appreciation from every corner.
