They certainly do not represent mass preferences ...current trps reflect what channels want. In fact they monitor the trps by randomly selecting the tv sets measuring them.

That's why I don't blame the audience for the crap that ITV has become. The TRP meters are only installed in a few thousand selected houses in the country. No way ratings reflect what masses actually want to watch. It's only those viewers who have the meter that like all the nonsense shows. Most people can't contribute to the TRPs at all.

Channels and producers themselves have corrupted ITV by creating senseless content in the first place but they push the blame towards audience.

Quantity is given more importance than quality that's the reason why majority of ITV shows are just unbearable and decent shows like BP are forced to end prematurely

In countries the size of India and China popular soap opera style (daily) shows will never be good shows. Even Bepannah had it's faults; mainly because the format of this type of story should be a limited weekly format.

The future of Indian TV is Netflix and other web based platforms where attention can be placed on storytelling and creating rewatchable series. There are some amazingly passionate and romantic Indian web series out there, far better than even Bepannah (Vikram Bhatt produces some great stuff for example), they just need more publicity.
