People always ask me as to why do I like Mohana so much

Arre oh Samba !! kitne aadmi the ?...

I Love you Kkk Kiran...

Mogambo Khush Hua !!

Shakaal ke haath mein jitne patte hote hai ...

utne hi patte uski aasteen mein bhi hote hai

STILL DON'T GET IT ???

These Characters are Pure Evil Mind you Yet people still love them

Decades later they are still fondly remembered Why ??

Because they are Kick-Ass Villains !!!

Mohana is one such Iconic Villain ! She is a class above those saree clad, loud makeup wearing, scheming Tv Vamps. In a world of 2 Dimensional cardboard Characters she is a well written Tv character

More than that without doing anything She's immensely likable as a Villain

With that lets kick start this post with

" 10 bahane udke lagayi dil, lagayi dil You stole my Heart Man...!

Reason 1 : Mohana Owns her Sexuality

No I am not talking about the skin show here ! She is very much comfortable in her skin & it shows .

She's got that confidence in herself as a women. She knows the effect she has on men. That trait of raw sensuality of hers fits right into her role as predator.

She'll know how to properly court the guy & hold her own with them. Its actually refreshing to see the woman take charge in that department.

There's a reason I'm saying this !

It's in fashion for our Tv heroines to be deliberately coy ! Otherwise she risks being branded sexually promiscuous .

Because Heavens Forbid !! Our innocent dudh ki dulhi ( read pure as virgin snow 1950's Hindi film ki Heroine) tries to even flirt let alone show interest in the opposite sex

No that stereotype has never gone out late, or on a date, kissed the guy let alone approached him or flirted back .

You get the picture ! They wouldn't even know what to do with the guy if he takes an interest in them let alone take charge !

No that dept is left solely to the Vamp !!

Reason 2 : No Prince Charming needed to rescue this Damsel

Mentally Tough ... She survived in a freaking box for 20 yrs.. Alone without going insane. Yet no Box could break her. Instead she sat there & not only did she plot out her rescue but also thought 10 steps ahead to gain Immortality . You can't say the same for the Rathore family . Who possess the full use of their hands & legs & all the fresh air in the world . Yet they constantly need someone to rescue them. You might argue "But she's a Daayan & they don't have feelings " Even a Daayan would go cuckoo if they were stuck there eternally. Even our resident Chudail felt the suffocation for 20 yrs.

Along with being self-reliant another good quality of Mohana is she is that she is her Biggest Motivator . Having been on her own for 200 years it comes in handy . There is no one there for her No family to speak of . Normally you show this kind of trope in saas bahu shows. After 20 yr leap bahu is separated from her kids is hated by her family. Depressed discouraged she spends many a episode weeping her heart out.

That same trope is subverted here .When things go bad the Rathore parivar being 10 constantly need encouragement.

Mohana is different ! She is own support system , coolly she plots ahead to her next move .

All in all ...Women knows how to take care of herself ! It is downright sexy !

Reason 3: Machiavellian Strategist

A story is only as good as it Villain ! A villain brings life to the story . He also creates the necessary conflict needed for our hero to prove his worth. Think about it if your villain was boring or weak would anyone be interested in the story or even look at the hero. In like manner Mohana being a shrewd tactician spices up the proceedings ! I really enjoyed the moves she comes up with be it the Daayan ki Ulti Chaal', Ice cream Ved' or the Chudail bagao Andolan' to name a few !!

The only downside is our story's protagonists can't match wits with Mohana so it feels like they are being bullied . You need equally Crafty Hero to balance it out ( aka Durga vs Sakshi Goenka).

What a let downer !

Reason 4 : Both the Daayan & the Actor Behind it

Whoever thought of casting Monalisa as a Daayan did us a huge favor. That role was tailor made for her. Where Monalisa begins & where Mohana ends you can't make out.

There's a certain gravitas that she lends to her role that comes only from having accumulated vast number of years experience as an actor.

When she acts she brings versatility to her performance. When she is delivering dialogues she speaks not just with her eyes she uses her whole body to emote !

You can see it in the way she moves, the way she walks . That confident swagger and choti swish complete with that trademark smirk . Sometimes innocent , sometimes naughty come hither looks. You enjoy watching her act onscreen.

Even in her Dialogue Delivery you expect a harsher more menacing tone since she is a Daayan. Yet her soft delivery takes you by surprise. Her soft tone can be sensuous, can also be menacing .

Equal parts charming equal parts menacing ! You can't turn your eyes away from her like literally Nazar hatti nahi'

She brings an element of realism to her role as predator.

An out & out Entertainer . She's got that X factor needed to pull off this kind of role .

To sum up what she brings to the table as Daayan is the complete package of badassery ,charisma , fearlessness & motherly instincts !

The kind of women id like to see on Indian Tv . Shame she's evil ! Would it be too much to ask the channel writers to redefine the idea of what its means to be good ??? The last Tv heroine who did that was Durga Goenka . Unfortunately she was a rarity not the norm .

Reason 5: DD...Dance Basanti

I love it when the Daayan dances !

There's this inner joy you feel in her as she dances ! She literally light up the screen when she moves

That's because Monalisa loves dancing and it shows. Anywhere anytime you don't need to prompt her .

When she dances her energy is quite infectious . Makes you want to join right in ! It's a real treat to watch her !

You can watch the video right here

https://www.indiatoday.in/television/video/nazar-s-mona-lisa-burns-the-dance-floor-at-agenda-aaj-tak-1411365-2018-12-17

Reason 6: Glam Quotient

She puts the cool back in choti ! That one braid together with big bindi & chudis is reminiscent of those old fashioned 50's heroines ! Yet she manages to make it look trendy for today's times .

Reason 7: Star power

Being this show's main lead she carries it well on her shoulders . I must say on Tv it is unusual to have a show based on a villain . Charismatic she's like a heroine with a twist & an edge .

Reason 8: Daayan ka Andaz

Why would i root for her ??

In Lucifer's words : Because She's Wicked Fun ! I've never been so highly entertained by a Tv character not since well Lucifer appeared onscreen . Makes it a pleasant break from the regular dal bhatti fare .

This is where you benefit when you employ a film actress

for a Tv serial.

Her tashan with which she approaches everything . The Badassary with which she does everything while being Totally Evil.

As if she's inviting you join in on the fun . You feel scandalised by her actions at the same time you can't help rooting for her .

She makes the Daayan look Damn Cool !

Reason 9: Lady sure can Fight !!!

Let me just say here that she has some badass fighting skills. There isn't anything delicate or pretty about Mohana .When you watch her there's this earthy rawness to her fights . She like a lioness come alive onscreen. You get the sense that the toughness she invests into her role feels like an extension of her real life persona.

Unlike other supernatural shows where special effects is the norm we get to watch actual fight scenes. Must say her fight scenes are a hoot to watch !

Reason10: Daayan ke Stunts

I would be remiss if I didn't mention her stunts. This section deserves a separate heading by itself .

A Daredevil she has redefined Action onscreen !

As an performer Monalisa is extremely fit & agile . Taking advantage of this the action director gets the opportunity to utilise her skill sets to present to us a plethora of stunts for our Entertainment !

You can see that in almost every episode she's performing some stunt or the other. Be it plain climbing up walls or trees or getting chained to cars or jumping on trucks.

Till date she's added many good stunts to her portfolio . There was the Moansh team up fights ( Piya Naman wedding sequence & Revavanshi fight ) , Divya vs Mo fight, then the getting chained to the car like a Bollywood Hero & breaking free stunt to name a few & many others.

But the most memorable of them all was the Chudail vs Daayan Car Sequence ! Electrifying is what i call it !

What made it stand apart was that it was a hardcore action scene reminiscent of those 70s Blockbuster Bollywood films (It brought me to the days when audiences used to maaro seetiya' s & bajao taliya's when their favourite hero Amitabh bachan used to dishoom' dishoom' the bad guy onscreen ) and not your run of the mill Special effects scenes you normally see on Supernatural Shows ! Both Sreejita & Monalisa did complete justice to it . They fought like those heroes of yester years

Why am i highlighting this particular sequence !

Women rarely get to showcase their fighting skills . Films yes but to a lesser extent never eclipsing the hero or not many films showcasing this aspect. But on Tv it is unheard of !

i don't hate or love any character of the show. She just okay-ish character to me.
i agree that actress can pull off any stunts, dayan character effortless and deserve awards for her portrayal. But mohana as character is too much reliant on her powers than her brain.

If you take her powers off , she is ablaa naari - it is already proven with namuna track n with davansh n chudail marriage track. Her outward appearance is glamour, which should be listed in her powers.

Except for her come back, non of her plans were completely successful - she can't even asses what extent her own son's humanity works.

Don't get me started on her hypocrisy. She flaunts daayan nature to excuse herself from human trail but wants ansh to follow human world rules when it comes to mother.

She does't have any real relationships or connect to anyone. All the things she does is for her own survival - like business/ animal- prey relation now. It is one- dimensional no what so ever her own inbuilt traits other than being daayan.

So at the end, the character is too simplified and ruined by writers.

Wow, Hallyumint! 👏 This is really awesome! 😃 But one thing, may I suggest that you add a list of rules and/or dos and don'ts here? 😳

It has been a long time since I watched Nazar as I got sick of all the boring family drama and cliched story lines and the churails/daayans in the show, namely, Ruby and Mohana, being portrayed as purely evil along with some other things.

I often wondered, naags and naagins, who are the devotees of Lord Shiva, are always portrayed as being either, good, bad or grey shaded and having their own mandirs, own gurus, own pandits etc. So why can't churails/daayans, who are actually the devotees of Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Pataal Bharavi etc be shown in the same light, as being good, evil or grey shaded and having their own mandirs, own gurus, own pandits etc? According to some people, churails/daayans help good people and scare away bad people. Why do churails/daayans always have to be shown as purely evil?

As for Mohana, I love that character! 😃 She drop dead beautiful! ❤️ What a hottie daayan! ☺️ As for being evil, no way! 😲 Mohana is not evil, but angry and aggressive. She became like that because of the circumstances she lived under. 😭

To rags

You're disappointed with her ! I get it !

But this wouldn't be a debate if I didn't provide points to counter your argument. So lets get started.

I have a different perspective, right from first episode till now Mo has been shown to be evil but she had different shades added to her character as the tracks demanded.

Decoding Mo from writers perspective :

At the beginning of the serial she was just plain daayan then when she was released this was around the time serial got an extension they added the mommy angle to her. This made her relatable and you got invested in the character . Yes she's evil but she's also a mom yada yada & so on. It created a wonderful debate between who has a right to be called a mom & who not.

But in the background she always had her diabolical plans for Ansh. We weren't privy to it. We just knew that it had something to do with his power & possible world domination. So those plans were flexible.

When they reached the halfway point of the serial this is generally the point "where the cow up goes up the tree " in the story . You introduce a 20 year leap

or separate the leads or introduce kitchen politics etc.

Normally writers don't respect their audience cause lets face it we're used to misery, like a masochist we keep coming back for more. ( Trps don't lie)

But here writers tried to overcome that roadblock by not only keeping in mind their audience feelings & also kept their serial afloat in the trp race. No mean feat !

They really listened to their audience when they asked for Pia to stop crying to be a stronger warrior. They kept it logical her reason for growth.

So for this reason Mo had to stop being Mommy & revert back to her original avataar. Her likability factor had to be sacrificed for the greater good of our beloved serial. ( Is she less interesting this way . To me no i still get to explore other facets of her )

Here too they showed her character progress quite logically . So you never questioned her about face. Like you do with other serials

So in that sense she has been consistently evil but she brings different shades to her. Like an onion she's got layers added to her which when you peel back reveal a different motivation. Its fun watching her onscreen.

The Daayan vs Rathore fight :

Regarding her plans not being fruitful . I believe that fight is balanced.

Sometimes Mo wins sometimes Rathore's . If it is possible they give the audience what they want.

Mo Pia Ansh Ved they are the main leads so nobody is dying & nobody is going anywhere. They will be stuck in stalemate ( with interesting variations) till the serial ends & then they will show Mo dying. ( This isn't Sabrina -chilling adventures after all )

Mo abla nari or strong woman :

You said if you take her powers off she is abla nari. You're right she does become helpless . But you're wrong that she only relies on her powers like I mentioned she is a shrewd tactician . eg. even in her pink form she sent ved to become Icecream, today's epi she cheated death by turning sarp, she had no physical form for 20 yrs but she was able to rescue herself , she released Dil while on the run from Naman.

Mo is Unlikable :

There was an article where the writer said he wanted to portray different forces of a woman in his show. He created strong woman characters in this show but he put the stronger attributes of a woman in his negative female characters.

The qualities that I mentioned above were what drew me to her & what i wish a positive character would have. Plus i couldn't write her flaws with the song scenario I wrote above. It didn't fit in.

Basically what im saying is I don't like her because she's evil but i like her inspite of being evil in general. I also accept her evilness.

" Don't get me started on her hypocrisy... She does't have any real relationships or connect to anyone... "

You're right again ! Those are her flaws. Right now even I don't like her for the things she does.

Like i said, before I could do a balanced Mo post or a hate one i needed to get Love Mo post out of the way . As you know i wasn't given much options but to

defend myself.

All said & done this a lighthearted supernatural show. I come for the serial for all its beloved characters the fun & the magic.

So ( wriggles eyebrows) care to counter argue ?? or do you want to discuss other topics.

I promise ( shows pinkie ) to keep my replies suuper short ...

Skanthan

Glad you liked my post. 😊 It took me two weeks to compose this. I made this as entertaining as i could. Yup Mo is fascinating

I love your take on Mo being a misunderstood daayan. Have you watched Cursed - 2D animation short on YouTube. In fact I thought of a different storyline with that thought.

[ The story was Ansh was really not her son but a vessel to hold her power & save her when she nears her end. In his past life he was Vibhishan & was

instrumental in killing her husband & kids. To escape her wrath he promised to be reborn as a vessel surrendering her power when the time came till she recovers from her wounds. That would mean death for him.

When the time came he faked amnesia and hid behind his family & GF To expose him Mo took on the role of being evil. Driven by vengeance she faked Divya's death so that Piya can stop being Daivik & not be in her way. She also took false credit for capturing Divya for 20 yrs. Just so they hate her.

To outsiders she was good but to Rathore she was evil ... ]

I have a different perspective on Mo being Evil or no.

Unlike others I Don't have any illusions about Mo having a shred of goodness in her . She is out & out Evil ! I don't have any qualms about who she is & what her role is. I accept her as it is . Yes there are times I'm going to like her other times dislike her.

But on the whole my enjoyment from this Serial is derived not from the destination ( Evil losing Good winning = Serial end ) rather in it's the ride and mohana promises to be a fun ride all the way !!

" So why can't churails/daayans, who are actually the devotees of Maa Durga, Maa Kali, Maa Pataal Bharavi etc be shown in the same light, as being good, evil or grey shaded and having their own mandirs, own gurus, own pandits "

When you watch movies in cinemas you demand for something different. You won't settle for Dal bathi fare. Eg Thugs of Hindustan was not unique enough for our audience

But on Tv you demand Dal bathi fare you may crib about saas bahu but even if they show something different you still stick to saas - bahus . Trps really don't support different shows except for comedies / reality shows.

On tv our audiences are predominantly women. They like saas bahus they don't like any variations . Writers have to bow down to the audiences wishes.

Ultimately they need to make a living.

Again the rule changes for web series/ international shows . Eg Twisted, Rise .

So it depends on the medium you are making it for.

Mohna is a complete black character even dola is better than her ,

No circumstances r responsible 4 mohna's condition , only she is responsible , she never tried 2 change

Even dola disclosed mohna is utter disgusting character & selfish thats why she was throw out of daayan clan .

She killed her husband , killled divya's son , killed divya , many innocents , even she tortured ruby who helped her so much , thats show she is ungrateful person, she only cares 4 herself no one else.

Do ansh dont have right 2 live , how can mohna decide 2 eat him 2 become amar, what right mohna has

What circumstances were forcing her 2 do so .

She can simply die

Its nature's rule every living thing has 2 die so does mohna

Mohna is a complete black character even dola is ...

Welcome to the discussion

Guessing by your fiery comments you're frustrated with yesterday's episode...Mo being alive.

If I've understood your ire correctly you're actually putting forth points for Mo being evil not good ??

As I've stated in my post Mo is evil. Not denying what you've said. She does look out only for herself. Thats why i posted give me your reasons as to what you personally love or hate about this character.

I accept your hate Mo points as valid.

You also asked another question as to how can anyone like Mo ?? That one would lead to a dead end. So i won't answer that.

Rather I'm interested in having a different dialogue. What drew you to that character & what repelled you. That way we all can enjoy a lively debate. ( Yes it is possible to do that without coming to blows )

If you have any further Hate Mo points you are welcome to post here. Only leave room for debating. 😊

Hope you don't mind my plain speaking ...

I think you need to make a Mohana Appreciation thread!

Regardless of the actions of Mohana in the show, you cannot disregard that she does justice to her character. My whole family says that literally no one could do an evil act so beautifully like she does! She is beautiful and the way she acts just entices you! I'm a huge fan of Mohana, thank God that she didn't die when Pia thought her game was over! There is no Nazar worthy if it isn't Mohana's

To the philosopher

I loved the fact she never gave up . She fought for own survival.

She also refused to be shamed by Rathore's . Made her own rules. If you truly want to beat her at her game . Family drama isn't going to cut it . You need to be cunning.

She does light up the screen with her presence ! Mohana the daayan really captured my imagination. In fact she made me stop caring for good vs evil fight and sit up & cheer for her.

Rather than the destination im interested in the ride and mohana promises to be a fun ride all the way !!

Not a Mohana Appreciation thread but a Monalisa one. They accept in that category. I'm afraid i have my hands full. Why don't you apply for one ? I assure you it's not that difficult to maintain a thread. If you ever want to .
