Chapter 01
*Present*
Malhar woke up to find Kalyani sleeping literally over him with her signature deathly clutch on him as if he might disappear if she let him go. He tried his best to untangle himself from his wife until his eyes met her relaxed face and light snores. It had been a month since Kalyani slept with him on the bed. The promotion from the floor to the bed did come with a few conditions though one being the popular pillow wall which from the first day was a plan meant to fail. Over the month the two always found each other waking up with no traces of a pillow wall.
"Malhar..." Kalyani poked his face.
"What's so interesting on that plain white wall that you've been staring at it for the past 10 minutes" she asked arching her eyebrows.
"I was trying to plan on how to move your heavy body from mine. My body feels numb with you using it like a mattress" he joked.
"Meanie" she huffed getting up from the bed to find a happy pillu greeting her from the cot with a smile.
"Good Morning my baby. How are you?" She spoke to Moksh carrying him from the cot peppering him with kisses.
"Leave my poor son alone. Look at him he looks scared for his life. Isn't that right Pillu" Malhar said slowly taking the baby into his arms and showing Moksh with a few kisses of his own.
"You're jealous aren't you?" Kalyani smirked.
"What about?" Malhar looked confused.
"Pillu clearly loves me more that you" She continued to annoy him.
"Pillu... loves you? More than me?" He mock laughed
"You're one delusional girl" he pinched her nose.
Before Kalyani could react the bickering couple was cut halfway through with Anupriya pulling their ears.
"Did you'll brush your teeth" Anupriya questioned to which Kalyani and Malhar swayed their heads in negation.
"And here you'll are eating each other alive first thing in the morning like a set of cannibals before brushing your teeth" She scolded.
"Give pillu to me and the two of you'll better see me after dressing up like decent human beings" she concluded talking Moksh away.
"I'm going to the bathroom first" Kalyani ran while Malhar ran behind her screaming at her unfair scheming to have Kalyani laughing away at a flustered Malhar.
*A few hours later*
*Kalyani P.O.V*
"Kalyani I have something important to talk to your about" Malhar said looking a mix of serious and in almost tears.
"Malhar are you fine you look a little down" I asked worried.
He took my hands into his, playing with my fingers he sighed.
"I have something to tell you" he continued.
My heart raced faster than a formula one race car. Did Malhar feel the same way I felt for him? I mean it was high time he confessed I'm not sure how to do it and maybe if he confessed I could go along with the flow telling him how much he meant to me too.
"Kalyani are you listening" he tapped me.
"Yes tell me"
"So I've been thinking you might have wanted to do so many things with your life until I...
I forced you into this relationship. I'm sorry I burdened you with a child and a husband when you should be travelling around the world, partying and having fun. I don't want to hold you down anymore. So I've decided..." Malhar looked at me in tears.
"You've decided what?" I stammered tears choking me down.
"To let you go" he finally said.
"You want to what?" I looked at him in disbelief.
When all I could think of was how I was going to confess to him all Malhar had been thinking was a divorce.
"Kalyani tell something"
"You barley bothered about my opinion regarding this whole divorce proceeding. You made up your mind about what's good to me and now You expect me to tell me what I think about the decision You think is good to me" I asked.
"Listen Kalyani you're young. You have a full life ahead of you. Why are you angry with me when all I'm thinking of is letting you free? You'll meet people your age. Who knows maybe you'll even fall in love with someone closer to your age. You deserve better than a man so much more older than you and forced responsibilities" he tried to hold my hand which I pushed away annoyed.
"Leave me alone" I whispered.
"Kalyani"
"I SAID LEAVE ME ALONE" I demanded annoyed at all what transpired.
I had to get some fresh air. I needed a break.
*Malhar P.O.V*
"Malhar where's Kalyani" Aai asked as she tried to calm down Moksh who seemed to not stop crying.
I took Moksh to myself trying to calm him down which he slowly did after I promised him to find Kalyani for him.
"I thought she was with you Aai" I answered a little concerned now.
"I've not seen her at home after you took her to the room to talk"
"Its been 6 hours since then" I said.
"Malhar tell me what happened? Why is she not at home?" Aai questioned.
"I... I told her I'll let her free"
"Are you out of your mind? Do you not know how much you mean to her? All she does is talk about you until my ears turn deaf and here you are... didn't you think it was important to ask me if you're doing the right thing? I swear Malhar if God forbid something happens to my daughter I will not spare you." Aai cried.
Why was I so stupid? Aai is right I should have consulted someone before I spoke to Kalyani. Did aai say that Kalyani cared for me? Why would she after all put her through? How could she possibly love me? Did she feel the same way I felt?
My thoughts were interrupted with my phone that rang for the umpeenth time.
"Hello"
"Sir I'm Viraj" a police officer from my station introduced himself.
"Sir there had been an accident near the highway.."
"And..."
"Kayani is the one that met with the accident"
"Where is my wife? Is she ok?"
"Sir we are at the hospital now the doctors say she's critical" he said as I ran to the vehicle and started it up.
"Which hospital?"
"City hospital"
I drove as fast as I could while all I could think was that all this was nothing but my fault.
