Again she could have run away with her son and the prince. But considering how Zubeida got treated by the Prince and everyone at the Palace after a while the son probably would have been treated terribly after Zubeida died. I think the grandmother could foresee that. She even told her that the prince didn't really love her and he would start neglecting her after his lust dies down. That ended up being true to some extent.

In fact i felt Zubeidaa was the one who was being a brat most of the times and felt pity for the Prince and Princess.

The Prince seemed to really love her. He even arranged a surprise meeting with her son and mother.
