I have enjoyed Alia's films till now...but she seems to be getting repetitive. she also uses the same techniques over and over again in her acting.

I have noticed she is really good at transforming into the character only when the script is really good and when their is strong characterization

otherwise she is completely overrated imo..and tbh w/o the support she gets I dont think she would be where she is

She is doing well for herself now...but I have a feeling she will reach a peak very soon if she hasn't already, and the hype will die down for her pretty quick as competition increases

what do you think?

but actresses like kangana has done well with solo releases in the box office

im talking about "acting" not box office. as box office is a measure of how good the film is not the actress. otherwise films like bahaai ho would have flopped

Apart from Kangu all active A-listers are one note actors though.

so why is their a disparity in the attention and praise b/w an alia/deepika vs a kangana? is it an off screen star power that comes into play?

I completely agree, but she is lucky because KJO is backing her fully in author-backed roles

To me, she was and always will be average as an actress, because IMO being an actress entails more than just screen presence, which Alia has. But otherwise, she lacks the aura around her and something about her is so off-putting. She has raw screen presence but is overrated as an actress IMO.

She applies the same techniques, and relies too much on being 'cutesy'.

I only really liked her in Udta Punjab, to be honest. There she completely transformed herself.

To me, Anushka, Deepika and Kangana are ahead in acting department.

Deepika and Anushka are not. I am a Deepu fan, but even objectively speaking she doesn't employ the same techniques. Look at her in Piku where she completely slips into a girl-next-door avtar. Look at Bajirao Mastani where she emotes with her eyes. Look at YJHD, where she plays a nerd without slipping into the cute, vulnerable look. She is anything but a one-note actor.

I didnt think this about alia...but then after the gully boy trailer I noticed her accent fluctuations and also the scene where she is crying was just like humpty sharma..so her character was reminding me of previous characters

same screaming and yelling like it highway.

she is very good at emoting...but its just the same exact acting to me

I just think in comparison to other actors who perform well onscreen...she is little overrated

Her acting in Highway was massively overrated. To me, the movie is also overrated. Thank god she didn't win any awards as Kangu swept all awards for Queen. She might have won the critic's actress, though.

For me, she gave a breathtaking performance in Udta Punjab. She was simply fabulous. She didn't go over the top, was so retsrained yet so powerful. Easily one of the best performances this decade(male and female both).

Having said that, one swallow a summer does not make. So Alia, though acc to me fourth in acting,after Kangu, Deepika and Anushka, still has a long way to go.
