Melody of Megh Malhar
The soft evening light created a golden hue surrounding her with a cozy warmth. The evening breeze pranced around her like a calf seeking his mother. A delicate strain of flute sought her ears. Time stood still along with her. Each note seemed like a question from him. Will she come to him? Will she always seek him out in the crowd? Will she look for him when he is not around? Will she dance to his music forgetting the entire world? Will her soul be his?
She could not contain herself. There was deep need within her soul to answer his call. His soul was embracing hers and she had to go to him. There is no other path. There is no other destination. He was her mate who walked with her and he was her destination too. He was both her journey and her destiny.
She ran to him.
Her anklets trembled creating a beat every time she took a step. Each beat was an answer. It was the same every time. Yes', the answer to every question.
He was standing in the middle of the meadow. The Yamuna's waves touched the shore in tandem with the rhythm of his melody. She reached him finally. As she stood in front of him, he looked at her with a smile gracing his face and that ever present mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Answering smile from her was all they needed. There were no words spoken.
For a moment the only sound was from the waves of Yamuna, the rustling of leaves from the trees, and the call of the birds. Then he picked up his flute again.
A new melody enchanted earth that evening. The earth called out to her love and the sky answered. Earth held her arms open and the sky embraced her with his showers. The rain drenched everyone. Each touch of a droplet bought the fulfillment of an eternal love.
In the end she danced to his music. She danced with abandon. She danced with love. She danced with joy. She danced with the rain. She danced with the wind.
She was the beat to his music.
She was the answer to all his questions.
She was the prayer and a boon to his prayer.
She was eternal and he was the time itself.
She was his and he was hers.
