Definitely. Yoon Shabnami, Lal ishq and Aayat. These three are so beautiful. I love the use of very classical and native musical instruments he puts in his music. Puts you in a different headspace altogether.

I don't think he is underrated as Ghoomar and Dhol Baje kinda songs are played in every function whether it's a TV show or even other ordinary functions.

But I guess the singers took away the credit 😆

Bhansali is among the very few who still holds the baton of Indian traditional music loud and strong. The influence of Indian folk music and classical music on him is evident from his entire body of work.

From semi-classical numbers like Albela sajan, Kaahe chedd mohe, Mohe rang do laal to the pure folk songs Dholi taaro, Nimbooda, Dola re dola, Pinga, Lahu muh lag gaya - all are musically richer and have huge mass appeal too. This feat is difficult to achieve in commercial cinema .

Even the lighter melodies like Aankhon ki gushtaakiyan, Jhonka hawaa ka, Silsila ye, Yoon shabnami, Thode badmaash, Laal ishq, Aayat, Deewanimastani etc are all deeply rooted in Indian music and contributed to the grandeur of his extravaganza.

In a nutshell, his film's music is very Indian deeply rooted on indian folk but set in a Indian classical arrangement. That's why some of the songs from his movies are easily remembered and celebrated even in today's times.

Are u sure he composed all these songs? Having good ear for music is different from composing from scratch

By the bye, where has Ismail Darbar disappeared? I think he and SLB really vibed well in their films together. SLB's collaboration with him is his best work till date, both HDDS and Devdas and those songs easily some of the best ones in his career.

He's learnt classical/folk music in his childhood and worked as an assistant to RD Burman. Apart from that he has great acumen for music and learnt it from his own experience of collaborating with various music composers early in his career and I think from Guzaarish he started composing for his own films (till PV).
Still I'd rate Kaamoshi, HDDS, Devdas as his best albums, though from his own composition there're quite a few memorable songs.
