Ok, this topic just got on to me and I finally had to come out of my hibernation. Though I did think of coming out of it once Draupadi entered the show. 😛

Firstly, the fact that many around here pointed out - The show is based on Kane's book. Neither is she an acclaimed author nor her books are any bestsellers. I remember reading Sita's Sister and since then have kept myself far far away from her works for my own sanity. Had caught upon some really bad reviews on Karna's wife as well.

Secondly, the promos of the show were not really appealing. Neither visually nor the actors. I do understand that Tejasswi is an experienced actress, but somewhere she had lacked in the promos. I am not aware of her performance in the show presently. May be she does well. But the actor playing Karna, IMO is a huge misfit! Aashim had given these vulnerable / disinterested expressions in the promos, that it took me some time to realize he will be playing Karna! 😳 No comments on Arjuna's casting! 😆

Thirdly, viewers are just too exhausted to watch another mytho on the same character with the same old story back to back. Karna is loved by so many, myself being one, but we just got out of the shock of previous one. People do need some time to recuperate! And let's not forget Aham Sharma still remains the favorite Karna for all! Be it his acting or his personality.

Apart from all these, what really is frustrating - the stupid love triangle which I fear could turn into a square with Draupadi's entry! Added to that is Krishna who could possibly be a saakha for Urvi as well! (Not sure if there was any connection/ interactions between them in the book)

And now, let me introduce myself, this is Anu from SPK & SKR forum. It has been so long since I commented or discussed anything on IF, so not sure how many could recollect? Anyway, it is good to meet some former members of StarMB, SPK & SKR! 🤗 Mytho shows do reconnect people, guess that's the thing I like the most! 😳

I think the promos were very appealing and yes Tejasswi is brilliant. But the show itself seems extremely dull and there is no depth in the dialogues or content.
Kinshuk is definitely a disappointment (quite a bad actor)and everything looks quite fake

I agree Aashim is stiff but he has expressive eyes.

I can't see this lasting long and it will be a dissappoinment to all.

@Anu - welcome to the forum , hope to see you more 😊

@All - I think that love triangle as most of you mentioned is also one of the reasons making this fiction more distant from everyone's imagination that people are really not interested in that.. I hope they improve Arjun's character .. more than a loverboy he had many things to his name that can be shown while showing Karn's story ..

I think rather than making this story about Arjuna or Karna, which has been done to death, if they made it about Karna's wife who remains an unnamed character in the Mahabharata, it would've been better. As far as I know Karna was married to Suta women of his father's choosing, so if they had shown how Karna's ambition, his being made a king, his closeness with Duryodhana etc. Afftected his wives, How they navigates the politics of Hastinapura being Suta women etc .it would've made for a much better show.

You spoke my mind.😊 I am bored with conventional storytelling of MBh.

Dear Jamy,

This must be one of the wickedest of your responses, and not just in this forum. It is truly 🤣, and I use that emoticon very sparingly! I only hope no one takes your sallies at face value.😉

I have been badly under the weather, and so I dropped below the radar for a while, , but now I am inching back. And this side-splitter of yours did me a lot of good!

Well, what to do? Karna fans are unpath ganwaars.😆 A thorough education under the mercy and intelligence of 'learned' scholars is not something they would dream about.

Dear Shyamala ji,

I know how disabling RA could be and how you must draw a line between what your mind likes and what your hand likes. I am glad that you feel better enough to peep in here. I am even more glad that my rants could do some good to you.

Now, that was a honest reply of mine. I have lost the touch of my original wickedness.😆 Whether people take what I write at face value or not depends on them. If people claim to have read Mahabharata or pose themselves as knowledgeable in it, then they must observe things from that standard which is to take it kindly to people and things we even don't like. MBh is not a one-man show, it is all encompassing. We don't need to like something to understand it, and that is called the respect for the opposition. If one's inclination for someone is decided by how wrong the opposition is, that is lack of sensibleness, not love. I do understand the admiration for favourites. But there is no need for anyone to put up with scorn every time when one or the other overstays their welcome.

BTW, did you complete Cranford? And what do you think about KS now? Do you watch it anymore? Do you think it is not working?

Dear Jamy,

Aha! I see that you have a new, snazzy id picture, and so I am not surprised that you want Bhanumati to protect her cranium! 😉

I am going to startle you, and I hope that doesn't shift to puzzled dismay! Though it was not just my hands in the latest flare up of my RA, but my shoulders and neck as well (it must have had its comic aspects, me turning stiffly around like a robot when I wanted to look at the side or behind, and totally unable to look up), I have, as soon as things let up a bit, caught up with our show. And oddly enough, despite the umpteen exasperating things in it, I rather liked it.

Not because of apni Uruvi, literally shining with oodles of the oily make up. Though I must say that she was excellent in the bit where she learns that Karna would have taken that oath on his mother. The surging tide of relief that reduced her to stammering delight was superbly done.

But more, I think, because this Karna is now looking convincing at least some of the time. Maybe it is an illusion of mine, and this is like a nonfunctional clock that still tells the correct time twice a day😉, but I liked him a lot in those corridor scenes with Uruvi. And last night as he tames Duryodhana by eye contact alone.

Now if only he would insist on continuity as regards his facial hair ! As things stand, his moustache and beard seem to thin out miraculously between his house and the aforesaid corridor.😉 Not just once, but twice already.

I am going to bed now, and half of tomorrow will be at the hospital, but once I am back, I propose to argue with you about your comment on Riti's thread. Bye till then.

Shyamala

PS: I am getting back to Cranford, and I hope to finish it tomorrow. One would not think that the hassles mentioned above would put one off reading for pure pleasure, but somehow it was so.
