I'm in the mood for rhetorical questions today😆
Keeping aside the fact that Redux is a doomed proposition anyways jo ki kahaan shuru hua tha aur kahaan pahunch gaya hai, bhagwaan hi jaane.
I was just struck by this thought cuz I'm watching another show about the concept of soulmates these days so I got musing about how it was once applied to Shivika.
In the last RU Shivika scene we got with Awasthi, Shivika confidently declared that they are soulmates...nowhere was there a boast of the fact that they are married and THAT is why they are soulmates, thus bound together...they spoke of a love that was hard fought, hard won, moving through many challenges over time to solidify into something they took pride in as a unit...and that is why they felt they were soulmates.
Redux Shivika have traveled quite the opposite path for anyone who's followed the last 5 months would be well aware...initially they felt a "cosmic" connection towards each other, if you will...a sense of attraction...which was briefly explored through extended eyelocks. Then they got married in a brutal fashion and everything changed.
Now, a hate wedding happened in RU as well but that was never the reason for Shivika calling each other soulmates...for feeling a connection to each other...they knew each other before that, built a sense of trust in each other before that for solid reasons...through interactions, through having meaningful conversations many times...the wedding alone didn't define them.
Alas, in redux, the wedding, being married to each other seems to have become an easy substitute for calling them soulmates...apparently they are now soulmates merely because they are married...lol don't take my word alone for it...that is all Anika has said on repeat since the last 3 months or so. Out of nowhere, suddenly she knows Shivaay inside out (or so she claims)...cuz shaadi...she gets restless without him...cuz shaadi...etc. etc...you get the drift.
I'm not sure when exactly marriage became an excuse for a soul connection...lol aren't those two separate things? Marriage is about partnership...support...trust...all qualities that RU Shivika built in their marriage too...but the marriage alone never was the sum of their existence or all that defined them.
In redux, being married seems to have become the sum of this Shivika's existence. Somewhere along this journey of supposed soulmates who should be able to find their way to each other in a new universe, in a new story became about everything BUT that soul connection.
Should I even bother getting into the why of it? 😆...Answers shall never be provided by the writers...there is everything BUT a soulmate connection in this new Shivika...lol...and honestly that would be fine if only they hadn't been pitched on the BASIS of a soulmate connection extrapolation from the originals...if they had been clear about the fact that this is a story based on how marriage binds two individuals, atleast we wouldn't feel confused.
So if I understand this correctly...supposedly this Shivika are soulmates simply cuz they managed to meet in another universe and get married...doesn't matter if they share barely a connect in this relationship...as long as they have achieved the technicality of marriage, they are soulmates? Is that really what the concept of soulmates is? A mere technicality? 😆
Soulmates as I understand them should feel a spiritual, a somewhat cosmic connection to each other...feel a sense of awareness about each other...a connection so strong that it should rise above any mirage, any situation.
Do we see any of that in this redux? Not really. I"m not sure if the writers even remember where they started this...lol wouldn't be the first time in IB...alas, this time the toll has been much harder for Shivika.
