O bai! hum chandan ki tarah gis gaye. Illaichi waali chai will always remind us of Taiji!
In her introductory scene, she is shown entering Naina's house with puja ki thaali and chanting gayatri mantra which shows she is a religious lady and considers this house as her own. Next we see her staring at Bela in shock for singing and dancing a bollywood song which shows she is very orthodox and strict whom everyone in the family fear.
Then she is shown scolding Naina and Preeti for dancing on chandni song while watching TV which again shows she is very orthodox and cares too much about log baag kya kahenge...

We are also informed through tauji that it was she and her husband who got whole family to city from village. So they have been responsible and dutiful all their life to wards their family.

Than we are shown a 7-8 year old boy calling her Mummy.. this is what strikes me the most.. I thought what would have been her life like before Pralay was born? Wouldn't her husband and his brother's family be everything for her? Given 90s scenario, a women without kid must have been put through a lot of humiliation and torture, specially when her 2 younger co-sisters have had 2 kids each. As the elder most Puja would be somewhere around 21, she must have been married for more than 25yrs easily and younger most preeti is around 16yrs which means she must be facing all taunts for at least 15-20 years... A woman has to be strong enough to face the taunts by people and her insecurities to loose her respect in the family for not having kids in that era.
May be that's what made her so bitter, rude and harsh...

I agree 100% to you Priyanka.
She has to be strong to suffer all the taunts from both her family and husband's family. We got a sample from the way how Phulla Bua was talking to her. She was a naive girl who doesn't even knew about electricity posts and the difference between oil and ghee. On top of that she was not able to become a mother. These things are enough to drive a normal person crazy especially during 70s and 80s. For her, now it is coming out as her rude and some kind of inhuman behaviour towards others.

Agree, Taiji jaise log hote hain so we can relate to her character also, Mujhe aisa lagta hain iska Naina k sath buti behave karne ka reason: ek toh she doesn't have a mother and jinlogo k pass maa nai hoti hamisha log unko apne ungliyo mein nachana chahate hain, unko kuch bhi bolte hain, for example preeti itna kuch karti hain but taiji kuch nai keheti coz she have a mother and loving father but Naina k pass toh dono nai hain, and I think inka itna bitter banke reason ek toh ush time mein ladies taiji jaise hi hote the and dusra unki infertility ki waja se unko bahut tane sunne pada hoga, sayed logo ne Naina k mom k sath compare kiya hoga and infertility hona bahut hi difficult baat hain and log aaj bhi kitna sunate hain toh ush time toh we can't even imagine, padhai bhi nai and choti unmar mein sadhi toh log aise hi taiji jaise hote hain, haan kabhi kabhi thoda jyada hoti hain Naina k sath, oh kuch jyada hi hain, 18 sal ki ladki ko jake har baat par marti hain, apna Saab bhadas and ghussa naina k uppar nikal na Chahati hain and the reason is no one is their for Naina, chacha and chachi jitna hi pyar kare until and unless aap k mom dad apko support karne k liye nai ho toh har koi aap ko dominate karna Chahata hain so taiji aise hain and bahut log hain taiji jaise so it's a real character. Dekhna jitna taiji aaj apne tradition ki baat karti hain jab unke bete ki baat Ayegi toh she will Totally forget and do whatever her son wants, and in future I can bet parlay ko bigda hua ladka dikhayenge. But kuch bhi ho love Agarwals characters. They are so real, can relate and acting bahut Achi hain, funny hain, kabhi kabhi jyada hote hain but still love them, waiting to see Sam and Agarwals scene especially taiji, Sam and Rakesh.

The good part is that CVs added some bit of humor to her character which makes it more appealing a little less hated...
Abha Mam is a fab actor. She has done full justice to this character. Can't think of anyone else who could have played this role better.

True, Abha Mam and Chandresh Sir are completely opposite to their on screen character. No one else can make them so perfect. Audience are hating Taiji and Rakesh Sir like anything but sometimes we feel pity for them also. That shows how good are they in their job.

Agreed. This justifies her behavior towards rakesh, how jealous she might have been when he had a son while she was still childless. Because she clearly looks a women to whom a son and daughter issues do matter.
All was well with her character until she tried to break pooja's marriage. Cvs just damaged her character there. Until then she was a strict, religious women with a bad mouth but a caring heart. Someone who cared more about the society and her family name but never wanted any bad for her family. But that pooja's track was just out of character for her. How could someone like her ask a women to standup for oneself?

A very different outlook indeed...and I thank you so much for this, Priyanka! 👏
We have always criticized her character, whether jokingly or in seriousness because it is so easy to do so. And that's what we love to do; criticize people. With people like taiji, we often forget the fact that there might be a reason behind her ruthless and strict nature. Maybe she was--at one point of time--sweet and kind hearted. Maybe she still is, but only under the influence of the 'society' she cares a lot about.

Frankly, I had forgotten the little details of the first episode...but you brought another angle to it. While we normally focus on Naina and Sameer...you went forth and looked at taiji and why she is how she is. Not being able to bear a child is still a problem and was a greater one back in the 90s. No doubt she might've been bashed several times for being the older couple in the house yet childless.

We did get to see a kindhearted side of her during the Pooja fiasco; where Pooja had returned home because of her argument with Bitoo. Taiji had been supportive to a certain extent and it felt as if she understood Pooja's plight. Maybe because she too had experienced a similar wrath from the society...that in any case, you are wrong. Maybe that's why she changed so that everyone fears her...maybe that's why she built her walls so high.

A very good one Priyanka! 👏

Wow this was such an amazing post. I totally agree with everything you said . She wasn't always like this but was made like through the taunts of people. It makes sense why Pralay matters so much to her and why if anything in the slightest happens to him she gets scared.

Thank you so much for this post dear
Till now, nobody looked beneath Taiji's taunts and anger, even I didn't.. But as you've brought it up, we're getting to understand what her life must've been before pralay was born.. We're getting to understand her character even better!!

Would love to see your analysis on other characters of the show too😊
