@Agamfan: I am quoting @Rogna here in response to your post:
Parents abandonment be it mother or father is just that - abandonment. Just because this series view Rithvik as the hero and Rishabh as the villain doesn't mean that Rithvik's case is more severe than Rishabh's case.
Adding more:
If we are hero-worshipping, be my guest and attempt justifying Rithwik over Rishabh. After all, what is the use of having a hero in a serial if we are not feeling good about him. Else he will be called a supporting actor.
If we are analyzing root causes and psychology, then both brothers have suffered equally; Rithwik got extra love and attention for his issues and Rishabh did not. We don't get to determine which way of letting out frustrations is less wrong - Rithwik's womanizing or Rishabh's backstabbing. Both methods have hurt people.
For the sake of dramatizing the serial, one will obviously be made more of a hero (courtesy Palak) and the other a villain (harassing Palak) ... but if we are analyzing psychology, we cant analyze just a single point in time or a few scenes, we have to keep perspective of 20 full years, from the time Rithwik and Rishabh became brothers and without choice.
Give it time, there will be a point ...perhaps towards the end of the serial, when Rishabh too will realize how absolutely wrong he has become. Its his misfortune that he does not have a Palak (he has a Saanchi, who is a very weak person) to show him a mirror. But yes, even he will turnaround one day. After all even Daku Ratnakar became Maharishi Valmiki
