Promotions and Over exposure

I find these over zealous promotions where actors go on every freaking channel to be pointless, they happen before the movie, so the actors don't get to talk about the movie in detail and the other questions most of the time are very lame, except for few shows like Masand and Anupama. Even the actors look tired and bored. I just don't understand the point of such aggressive marketing. Aren't the promos, songs and bit scenes enough to get the people to the theater? I don't think anybody cares about the interviews. I watch some of them when I have nothing better to do, long after whatever movie has released. Also I believe that the more you are exposed to a celebrity off screen, the more annoying they get, though exceptions are there.

I absolutely hate it too, but understand why they need to do the Overkill, it's part of the culture now

SRK started this trend of going to TV shows for promoting movie. While I find going to shows like Comedy nights was a good move for publicity, going to shows like KSBKBT/YRKKH was blasphemous.

Promotions are important but only to create buzz and let ppl know that the film is releasing. This ridiculous over exposure where they go to every random reality show and daily soap is annoying and pathetic. They seem to spend more time on link-up rumors and creating controversies and subsequently promotions rather than the story and writing. Which is the biggest problem. If you have a good story and good WOM with reasonably buzz worthy stars, your film will do well either ways. Dharma and KJo are the worst of the lot though 😆

Whats with actors visiting universities and all? Amity and other shit. Have never seen actors going to IIM or IIT. Guess people actually study there.

@bold -- Are you sure? Have you see movie updates thread? 😆

Some fans dissect everything, every interview, every photo, every gesture. How can you so invested in celeb's life is beyond me. It takes away complete fun of movie experience if you know EVERYTHING.
Fans are interested in actor's fart also. It's that extreme (Sorry there's no better example than that 🤣)

I made a similar post in the TOH trailer thread...This prerelease overexposure of the movies is what is really killing the Bollywood IMHO! By the time the movie releases, you already know its songs, plot, characters, costumes and what not so what is the point of buying a ticket and watching the movie in a theater? Might as well watch it leisurely at home when it comes on TV...no?

Yes it's ridiculous and useless. Srk started it and everyone followed suit. That time, he was called the king of marketing.
I think with netflix and online movie watching and new niche Insta celebs like fitness "guruS" and Insta models coming up, people have a lot more avenues to exert themselves and in the same span of time so BW is basically competing for attention with everyone.
And overpromotion is like the only way average people even realise a movie is releasing. Like that Sanam Teri Kasam movie, most people liked it when they watched it months after it had left the screens.
Same with Parmanu and Laila Majnu.

Very true..
Over exposure is killing it..

And its so lame to see actors come to daily soaps and reality show.. like come on..

before BW stars had an aura and mystery around them.. even the movies ..Now they show their faces everywhere and its pretty annoying

This shows that movies themselves are losing out on content and they dont trust the content of the movies to sell the tickets and they resort to such publicity gimmicks and what nots..

Golden days of BW cinema are long gone.. now its just marketing and advertising and things.

It felt like Varun and Anushka had been promoting their movie for like 2 months with no breaks. He looked very tired by the end of it.
