A curious case of BP promotion by colors -A pure data analysis

Guys I know every weekend off air news,slot change,improper timings a lot of things have affected bepannah from its inception.But what has consistently remained is colors promoting this 6 month old show that is not doing extremely great in trp charts at prime slot. I have worked in a corporate environment of 14 years and one of my most important responsibility was data analysis and predictions report for senior management. U think the day we see trps the channel also knows. No it is not like that. Even before the actual trp comes on Thursday the data analysts of the channel would have worked upon the predictive trp of next week. Or maybe couple of weeks. U think how is it possible. There are several methods like past data,correlation analysis, sampling and other predictive techniques and tools available for the same. I am telling this because even before the data for a quarter comes we would have started the work on next quarter parameters. Because senior management needs to know where their unit stands with respect to other units in the same org as lot of their perks are dependant on those numbers and where they fall. There is immense pressure on project managers to deliver those numbers within the required range and if pms are faltering our team has to support them to get the desired numbers. There is nothing emotional about it. Only the numbers speak. One of the key reasons for me to quit my job and publish my book. Because I was fed up chasing the numbers and the quarter to quarter stress associated with it. But the skill of data analysis remains with me. Now let us come to bepannah. For colors bepannah is a product which will have a number in their database for which they need certain numbers for getting a good ROI or return of investment. Those number crunching analyst don't care about aditya hooda or zoya siddique journey except using them for marketing purpose. If numbers don't come based on past data they give creative suggestions and if the data analyst is a pure logical person that will be the start of show going down the drain. But if a data analyst have an idea of the story and can tailor the past data to suit the story line there are high chances it will work. Just like we say in our IT sector a good project manager and a good process consultant working together means successful projects mostly to the level of best managed projects most successful shows will have a good creative data analyst combo. You can say heart and head. Now BP it is an expensive show. It is not in top 10. It has been 6 months. Channel is promoting it regularly. Basic instinct of my data analysis tells channel is getting money or have roi. But where is the money coming from if advertising depends on barc rating. Because barc rating is average for such hugely promoted show. Second is roi is average but brand image change. For me bp falls here. It's a show that gives colors as a channel urban touch. There are many audience like me who generally don't watch colors show have signed up for BP. In a way BP has become colors recall show. BP associate colors with more educated sophisticated audience and as part of long term strategy,vision colors wants it. As they launch digital shows and also target markets like uk where their presence is not strong BP helps. Hence they are promoting it. Senior management doesn't take decision based on one data. Many data analysis is presented before taking the decision. People will feel decision is sudden. No it is not. For an outsider it is sudden. But inside lot of planning goes with data. And interestingly many tid bits involve during discussion which make their way out. Though not to disheartening the fans the data analyst in me feels the talk of BP off air would have happened. As for us data analyst no data is meaningless less and we eliminate the data point only after validation or ascertaining why that data point is there. But another thing also I can tell as a data analyst that u don't market extensively if ur ending a show in a month because then ur roi which might be already average will go for a toss. So feel show is safe till Nov or maybe till Dec. But can't tell beyond that at this point looking at the data.

You really have given so much of details and facts about how things work regarding promotion and trps. Thanks a lot for that. But i could understand only half since i dnt knw much about data analysis nd stuffs related to it. But i do agree with ur point tht channel wil get to knw abt the status nd trps of it's shows even before the actual one comes. And this bigboss coming at 9.00 pm wouldhav been decided not suddenly. They wouldhav predicted nd decided this weeks back itself i think. BP would surely last atleast till jan is my guess. We hav so mucj trck left which needs atleast 3 - 4 months to complete without dragging.In between tht if bp do really well in trps ( i hope tht it will gain good trps at this slot ) then channel may give some extension. Me having some basic knowledge of contract and parties I can say there is contract between parties for a schedule and there is a contact between bp producer and channel for 15 month and it will show till 15 month if there is chance or improve in situations of bp and channel is earning through it's marketing it may show beyond but if it goes down they may shut off but now with agreement of both parties I don't think show will shut before 15 month of it's contract
P.S I really impressed with ur data analysis and commerce student in me had find it valuable

I have no idea about data analysis because I am not in this field but I do agree the channel is benefitting from the show in some way or the other and that's why it's promoting it rigorously.
It's high time IG and Twitter fans of the show appreciate the channel and stop complaining about everything. Yesterday the channel organized a True or False game for this show on twitter. It does look silly and very schoolish but still it never did this for any other show. Instead of appreciating it, people were continuously bashing the channel.

When other shows fans are complaining of biasedness and over promotion of Bepannaah, this show fans spend time bashing the channel. They think the channel is being unfair with bepannaah. Agar unfair hote toh itna promote kyun karte? They know their job very well. The makers also know by now hopefully what they should do to attract more viewers. It's the twitter fans who don't know what they shouldn't do.

Shruti I m really impressed with your analysis. I agree about the numbers, an approximate forecast surely happens days before the actual trp day. See, BP is extremely popular overseas people are trending it big time. I can't believe, it's just been less than 6 months and we have 200,000 hashtags ln Instagram without any romance between Adiya. It also has to do with the Brand Jennifer and Harshad, they are extremely popular actors in the industry. For someone who doesn't follow Saas bahu operas, go with such offbeat shows which cater to a different audeince altogether. Like you already mentioned, Bepannaah is the face of the Urban audience for colors. Moreover, Jenshad and Bepannaah are extremely popular online within such a short stint. Their fan following is surely insane and whenever colors posts something about BP on their SM feeds, BP gets overwhelming likes and responses which surely hasn't happened to anyoother show in the channel. Probably considering all this factors they want to give a chance to Bepannaah.

ur analysis is interesting...thanks for explaining...i am one of the person who started watching colors just because of bepannah..its the theme..maybe there are many like me..anyways..as long as the managers and writers are confident..we have nothing to worry about...We will just have to wait and watch..the only part we can contribute is watching the show during telecast..we all know we will watch it sooner or later online..so why noyt just watch it during telecast and help with trp..

@deeps the problem is all of us don't contribute for trp. The sampling meters of some 50000 decide the number. @rabia,romancefan in corporate world though there is contract there will be condition under which it can be broken too. And I feel for a tv contract trp will be one of the criteria.@subha I don't understand why Twitter fans go hyper and bash channel. They are doing a lot for bp. Even they want to benefit from it. @kiru I also hope it completes its 12 month journey atleast.

it's safer than we think only few shows of colours are a hit and their Jodi's are liked by people we are one of them ..

I never felt colours gave step mother treatment to our show

I m sure it will complete one year ...or even more
