Chapter 6 (This chapter was long so I had to split it in two)
The night had fallen, allowing the stars to shine bright in the night sky. Mahek was running towards the forest. "Mahek stop please! It's dangerous out there!'' Shaurya was running after her. Mahek looked around wildly for a place to hide.The night suddenly went nippy and a few stars could be seen, dimmed by the grin of a crescent moon. The fabric of her blouse shimmered in the moonlight. The light turned it golden and her petticoat silvery. It looked as though she was cloaked in moonlight. Huffing badly and out of breath she stopped. A huge tree came in sight,she ran and hid behind it. "Look I'm sorry yaar I didn't mean it..please don't hide from me Mahek!'' Night air echoed with Shaurya's voice. "I was kidding yaar! I'm really very sorry please come out! I will never force myself on you..you know that right?'' Shaurya came to a halt few feet from the tree. "I'm not coming out..you are drunk..'' replied Mahek. "I'm not drunk trust me! Now Come out or the boogie man will get you!'' He threatened her. "Boogie man? Now who the hell is he?'' She muttered. She felt Shaurya's presence behind her. With a little squeak of surprise, she whirled to face him, her hand coming to the expanse of skin above the line of her bodice with whom the moonlight continued to play tricks,making him to drool and crave for her. Shaurya was once again lost in her beauty. Embarrassed,She tried to run but he caught her arm. "Remember the shadow you saw the other day? It's him! The boogie man who eats human alive.'' Mahek shivered with fear. "Are you trying to scare me off?!'' She whimpered. "If you run he will find you! The choice is yours.'' He released her arm and walked away from her. "No shaurya! Please stop I'm coming with you!'' She was rushing towards him when a coyote crossed her path and stood some feet from her,ready to devour anytime. "Shaurya!'' Shaurya whirled swiftly at her scream. "Shit! Don't move Mahek! Stay right where you are!'' Mahek was trembling from head to toe. "Shaurya help me please...I don't want to die like this..my dream of becoming your wedded wife will be shattered...and our babies...I wanted to give you babies before I die..I wanted to see you changing their diapers while I sleep...'' she blabbered. "Huh?'' Shaurya looked at her with widened eyes. She quickly bit her lips. "Stop looking at me like that and do something about this beast!'' She scolded him. Shaking off the thoughts of becoming a dad and changing diapers he shifted his gaze to the animal. Before the wild animal could leap on her,shots were fired and the coyote lay dead on the ground. With wide eyes Mahek looked at Shaurya who was holding a gun. "A gun? You carry a gun?'' Her head spun. "I carry a lot of things babe.'' Tucking the gun on his waist he neared her with a grin. "Now what does that suppose to mean?'' Murmuring she passed out in Shaurya's arms. "Mahek get up!'' He shook her. Mahek didn't budge but started to shiver from the cold wind. Shaurya removed his shirt and covered her. "Come on I'll take you home.'' He scooped her up in his arms and started walking towards the mansion. Wind blew fiercely making it hard for Shaurya to move. "Am I safe? Is the coyote gone?'' Mahek Asked groggily. "Thank God you are awake!'' Shaurya sighed in relief. Mahek wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder. "You are safe and the coyote is dead.'' He told her. "I'm freezing...'' her teeth chattered as the wind blew on them. "We are almost there.'' He assured her. Mahek snuggled more on him. "Is there really a boogie man around here?'' She asked. "There's no such thing as boogie man I made it up.'' He chuckled. Mahek pinched his cheek. "You fooled me!'' Shaurya laughed. "I didn't mean to though.'' Mahek leaned and kissed the spot where she pinched him. "What was that for?'' He asked. "For loving me.'' She said softly. He didn't say anything but kept on walking. "Are you still gonna marry Ria?'' Mahek broke the silence. "Yes I am! Is there any problem with that?'' Mahek wanted to cry but held back her tears. Blackness threatened to spill over and stain her insides. "Shaurya,How can you marry her when you are still in love with me?'' He put her down on the ground and looked at the sky. "Just like the way you were marrying that bf of yours in that temple!'' Mahek Ran and stood in front of him. "So you'll be doing the same thing I was about to do? Loving someone and marrying someone?'' Shaurya didn't answer and started to leave but Mahek grabbed his arm. "what's the difference between you and me Shaurya? You call me a liar and a cheater..and look what you are doing? You are a liar and cheater yourself!'' Shaurya's palm balled into two hard fists. "You know what? I'll leave in few days Shaurya..'' Shaurya pushed her behind a oak tree and pinned her both arms above her head,Shaurya's shirt covering her fell to the ground. "Bloody hell! You think I'll let you go? I'm not done with you here miss sharma!'' Mahek scoffed. "Don't tell me you still have punishments left for me! Because I can tell you ran out of punishments already..and you know your punishments are sweet like you..they can never hurt me.'' "Shut your mouth or..'' He Warned coming closer to her and pressing his huge frame on her. "Or what...'' She managed to utter. Her throat swelled so much that near the end, she could barely force the words out. A flash of tingling heat raced through her. She could easily have broken free had she wished, but there was something about the warmth of his skin on hers, something delicious and shiver-inducing "Or this!'' His large, warm hand cupped her chin and tilted her face toward his. He bent and captured her glossy lips with his rough ones. He kissed her hard. Exploring her mouth and drinking her nectar. Everywhere he touched, everywhere she wished him to touch, was aflame with longing and desire, answered need and unanswered yearning. She wound her arms about his neck, pressing her chest to his, trying to get closer.
His lips covered and offered, gave and took. Mahek shivered against him and offered herself without reservation. His kiss turned fierce, letting her know that he, too, was aflame with need. She moaned against his mouth. Aching with desire, he captured her hand and kissed the palm. With her hair mussed about her face, her cheeks flushed from their kisses, and her eyes half closed, she looked like a woman who'd just been thoroughly loved. A lone tear escaped the corners of her eyes. Shaurya wiped it off with his thumb. Mahek threw herself in his arms and sobbed. Both were hurting...Shaurya wanted to confess that he still loved her and cared for her. He wanted to assure her that things will be ok soon but the words were stuck in his mouth. Hugging her petite figure to his chest,he walked her to the villa. "Can you teach me how to use the gun?'' Mahek asked on the way back. He laughed. "Why?'' "I want to shoot you!'' He looked her. "Seriously?'' Mahek burst out laughing,Shaurya joined her.
Next morning Shaurya found himself sleeping on the sofa inside the villa. Mahek was in the shower. Just then a cellphone rang in the room. Before Shaurya could get up and answer it,Mahek came running while drying her hair and answered the call. "Hey Raj ji! Good morning! Wow! That's sounds interesting! I would love to go! Please pick me up in an hour I'll be ready by then.'' Mahek couldn't finish her conversation when Shaurya snatched the phone from her hand and shut it off. "This is not the cellphone I gave you then where the hell this came from?'' By his tone you could tell he was angry. "Raj ji gave me..the one you gave me I can't make any calls or text anyone besides you only ..that's why he gifted me a phone so we could talk...'' Mahek managed to say. "I told you to stay away from him didn't I? ' he broke the device into two pieces and threw it out of the window and into the jungle. Mahek swallowed. He paused by the window,turning his back on her. "Once I get married to Ria which is in three days then I'll get you married to Raj then go wherever you want to go with him and never show your face to me ever again!' Mahek couldn't believe he was actually saying that and she fumed with anger. "He's my friend Shaurya! How can you say that to me?! I love you and not him!'' Tears formed in her eyes. "Yeah whatever! Doing things behind my back is what you call love right?'' Grabbing his shirt he walked out of there. Mahek fell on the bed and cried. Later that day Mahek made up her mind to leave everyone and go somewhere remote where no one could find her. Watching Shaurya getting married to some other would be painful for her so she decided to leave at once. "All I want is you to be happy Shaurya...if your happiness is with Ria then I'm backing off...I won't be a hindrance in your lives anymore..'' sobbing,she packed her bags. "Mahek?'' Raj's voice could be heard from the door. She hurried to the door before he could enter. "Raj ji I cant come with you ..I'm not feeling well.'' Mahek made an excuse. "I thought you would come with me and we'll go out shopping for Shaurya.'' Said Raj. "Why would we shop for him?'' Asked Mahek. "Oh you don't know? It's Shaurya's birthday today!'' Mahek's eyes widened in surprise. "Really? I didn't know...and that grumpy didn't even tell me.'' "Well..now you know. Anyway here's some documents Shaurya wanted you to have it.'' He handed the file to Mahek. "Thanks!'' Suddenly Mahek's gaze fell on Shaurya's balcony. He was watching them from there. Before Raj could say anything more,she shut the door on his face and ran inside. She opened the file to find her passport and all her legal documents. "So he really wants me to go... More Tears swam in her eyes. "I will go Shaurya but not now.'' She dried her tears and got ready to go to the mansion.
Karuna ma greeted her at the mansion. "I'm so glad you came! We need a helping hand in the kitchen.'' Karuna was pleased to see her as well as Sonal. Just then Shaurya stepped in the kitchen. Mahek noticed he wasn't happy at all. "Mom,I'm leaving for some work,I'll see you at the banquet hall.'' He told his mother. "Okay! Just don't forget it's your birthday party so don't be late.'' Karuna ma reminded him. "Don't worry I'll be there on time.'' Saying that he went past Mahek. She wanted to wish him but he didn't give her a chance. Mahek felt bad ..she thought she was the core reason for his anger and sadness. Blinking back her tears she went to Karuna ma. "Ma,can I bake a cake for Shaurya? Please?'' Karuna smiled. "Of course you can! We had just placed an order for the cake but I'll will cancel it right away!'' Mahek was happy. She gathered all the ingredients and started preparing the batter. "You know his birthday parties are usually really big and fun.'' Sonal told her. "I can imagine.'' Few hours later when the birthday cake was ready, Karuna ma called for Mahek. Mahek found her in Shaurya's room. "Come inside and pick any saree from his closet.'' She said to Mahek. "But ma that's all for Ria not for me.'' Said Mahek sadly. "He bought it for you in the first place and I'm sure he won't even let Ria touch it,come on in and pick one..we don't have much time left for the party.'' Karuna opened the closet for her. Mahek went through the saree's. "He didn't invite me ma..what if I go there and he gets upset?'' Karuna ma caressed her back lovingly. "Nothing like that will happen! I'll ask Sonal to get your stuffs here so that you can freshen up and get dressed.'' Karuna ma had other plans which nobody knew. "Oh God What if Shaurya comes home and finds me using his shower and bedroom? I'll be dead!'' She quickly finished her shower and came out. Hair stylist,makeup artist all were waiting for her with Karuna ma. Mahek gave them a questionable look. "I want you to look like a bride tonight.. please mana mat karna.'' Karuna ma Pleaded and Mahek couldn't refuse. Soon Mahek was transformed into a beautiful bride. Her heart was pounding for no reason. "I really feel like a bride...Shaurya's bride.'' She softly said to Sonal. Sonal smiled. "I wish what you feel today comes true.''
On the other side at the banquet hall,guests and friends had gathered for the birthday celebration. Raj,Ria and Shaurya's colleagues were also present there. Karuna and Sonal arrived with the cake but there was no sign of Mahek. Shaurya's eyes were glued at the door ..he was waiting for Mahek. "Did you invite her?'' Karuna ma startled him. He loosened his tie before answering. "I'm afraid no.'' "Then I'm sure she won't come.'' Replied Karuna ma. Shaurya's countenance fell. "If you want her here then you better do something about it.'' Added Sonal and hid behind Karuna. Just then Shaurya's cell phone rang. Maahi's number flashed on the screen. Shaurya excused himself and moved away from the crowd and answered the call. Finally Maahi told him everything...how she was about to commit suicide and how Mahek saved her by saying yes to marry her school mate. "Mahek never wanted to marry anyone besides you Shaurya...we forced her to leave you ..she did it for me Shaurya..it's not her fault.'' Continued Maahi. Few minutes later when he hung up,his cheeks were wet from the tears. Tears of regret. "Shit! Why didn't I listen to Maahi in the first place? For God sakes why didn't I listen to anybody at all? I never even gave anyone a chance to talk..not even Mahek! I was so wrong about her..I doubted her..her love..'' He punched the wall. "god dammit i hurt her so much...how will I repair the damage I did?'' Questioning himself He came back to the crowd. Waiters were serving drinks,he gulped few glasses down just like that. "Let's cut the cake first and start the party.'' Raj said. "That cake looks delicious! Where did you order it from Shaurya?'' Asked Ria. "We didn't order from anywhere! Mahek made it herself.'' Karuna ma told everyone. A smile crept on Shaurya's face but disappeared when he recalled the hurt and pain he caused Mahek. "Sonal,cut the cake and distribute it.'' Turning to Raj he said.Get the party started,tonight I'll drink like never before!'' He stopped the waiter and grabbed a bottle. "Shaurie...what's wrong Beta? You are acting strange!'' Karuna got worried. "Nothing mom! I'm fine..I just want to drink like a fish ...you eat and enjoy the party mom...when you are done the driver will drop you off.'' He hugged his mom and told the waiters to serve the food. "I'll go get my Mahek...'' he stuttered as the alcohol started to kick in. "No need! I'm here!'' Everyone's gaze turned to the owner of the voice. Mahek was standing there by the door looking gorgeous in red/gold saree. Shaurya a gone case was totally lost for words. "Stunning beauty!'' Raj complimented and left towards the door to greet Mahek when Shaurya blocked his way. "Stay away from her or I'll break you into pieces!'' Raj raised his hands to surrender. "Okay! Okay!Relax! Gees man!'' When Shaurya turned to Mahek,she was not there! His gaze searched for her around the hall. He found her talking with Karuna ma and other guests. Sighing,Shaurya found a table in the corner of the hall,sitting alone he continued drinking while looking at her. He had sadness in his eyes that Mahek recognized as regret. Mahek was worried about the way he was drinking. "Please Raj ji go tell your friend to stop,he can't drink like that it's not safe.''Mahek told Raj. "Oh don't worry he'll be fine!'' Raj ignored them on purpose. She then ran to Ria. "Ria,how can you let your fiance drink like that? Please go stop him.'' "Oh come on Mahek! Let him enjoy..it's his birthday!'' Sipping her wine she left. Everyone else were drinking and dancing. Some were eating and laughing over jokes. After eating Karuna ma left with Sonal saying,Take him away from here Mahek and make his birthday memorable.'' Nodding her head mahek headed towards his table. She called a waiter to clear his table and take the liquor away. "I'm not done miss sharma...I'll drink till I pass out!'' He told her firmly and tried to grab the bottle from the waiter. Mahek hit him on his hand and he quickly pulled his hand back. "You are done! Get up I'll take you home..'' He cocked a teasing brow. "Home? Really? If you stay with me tonight then I'll come with you otherwise no!'' He laid his condition. "I'll stay with you ...now let's go I can't let you stay here for one more minute.'' She helped drunken Shaurya up and led him to his car. Driver drove them to the khanna mansion. Mahek managed to bring him inside. The mansion was dark. "Where's Karuna ma and Sonal?'' Mahek Asked a maid who was just leaving. "Karuna Ma'am went to her place and Sonal left too.'' Replied the maid before closing the door. Mahek locked the door and helped Shaurya to his room. "You look gorgeous in that saree miss sharma,gorgeous like a bride!''He complimented. "Thanks! I stole it from your closet..I'm sorry this was suppose to be Ria's.'' She felt his gaze and her body tensed. "This was suppose to be yours only!'' He said. The mood shifted as they stared at each other in the limited light. Only the lamp on the nightstand was on, and the rest of the room was cloaked in semidarkness. Shaurya stared at her without blinking, his thoughts written all over his face. He then cupped her face. "Falling in love with you was like holding a candle. At first it lit up the world around me. Then it started melting and hurting. In the end it went off and everything is now darker than ever and all I am left with is the ... Burn! No matter how hard I try to make you happy in the end It's never good enough because I always end up hurting you.'' Mahek blinked back her tears but said nothing. "It's my birthday today..won't you wish me?'' Mahek smiled. "I will ..just a second I'll be back!'' Saying That Mahek Ran downstairs and into the kitchen. She quickly decorated a cupcake she had baked earlier . Placing a candle in the middle,she lit it and took it to his room. "Happy birthday Shaurya! Come on make a wish and blow the candle!'' Shaurya walked to her and looked at the cute cupcake. "Did you make that?'' "Yes I did!'' Replied Mahek. "Well thanks! I really appreciate it.'' He closed his eyes like a little kid and made a wish. A wish for them to be together till death did them apart. He then cut the cake while Mahek sang happy birthday song for him. He fed her and vice versa. She turned a pure, glowing smile his way, and it dazzled him so completely that for a moment he couldn't think. Mahek lowered her gaze and composed herself. "It's very late..Tum soh jaao (you sleep) I'm going now.'' Before she could turn and leave,Shaurya grabbed her hand. "Maahi called today.'' Mahek looked at him. "I have nothing to do with her.'' Shaurya let out a deep breath. "She told me everything about you..how you were forced into marrying someone else.'' Mahek's eyes widened. "Look I'm so sorry for not listening to you..I was wrong for not trusting you Mahek...I hurt you in so many ways for no reason...I'm so sorry please forgive me..I'm guilty as charged and I feel so bad for causing you pain...'' As Shaurya continued,Mahek was already shedding tears. He pulled her on his chest and cupped her cheeks. "Punish me Mahek for what I did to you..I'll endure anything for you.'' He had tears in his eyes. Mahek dried them with her thumb. "Just tell me that you love me..and all the pain and hurt will be erased by your love.'' She said softly. He kissed her forehead,her eyes,her nose,her cheeks,the corners of her lips and then pecked her full lips. Her senses were overwhelmed by him,the spicy male scent of him, the silky feel of his hair, the rock-hard press of his body against hers. "I love you Mahek! I love you very much! In fact I never stopped loving you..my love for you grew each day you were here with me.'' A beautiful smile crept on her lips. "Really?''She felt like dancing and tell the whole world about her love story. "I love you too Shaurya...more than anything else..'' With happy tears Her eyes fluttered close. When he heard her say that,desire slammed through him so savagely that he shuddered.Hot and hard, ruthlessly, he moved his mouth over hers.He slanted across her lips with a relentless hunger that caused stars to shimmer behind her shut eyes. Mahek's eyes flew open for the sheer pleasure of looking at him and she saw that he was looking directly into them with such a smoldering promise of passion that she whimpered against his mouth. He then let her go. "I have sent a text message for you to read...go home now.'' He moved away from her but Mahek hugged him from behind. "I don't feel like leaving you tonight...please can I stay?'' She insisted. He turned and caressed her cheeks. "I'm afraid if you stay I'll hurt you again so go now.'' He grabbed a bottle of champagne and left towards the balcony. "Shaurya..! Please don't walk on me like that!'' With a angry pout she sat on his bed. "I'll stay awake whole night and wait for you.''
