Finally a topic of my liking... anyhow moving on...

Very recently, in my business studies class, one of my friends told us about her sister.

Her sister got pregnant and when she mentioned materninity (sepll.) leave, her boss started treating her very badly. Before, the work she was praised for was now getting negative (unnecessary and in a way false) feedback. All they wanted her to do was to leave her job cz if they fire her then they havent got a good reason -- even attendence was good so now after staying there for i dont know a few months, she is leaving her job and moving as living in London is way tooo expensive.

Taking her into consideration I think what the employer did was exteremly wrong.

I do feel that employers should give a good solid reason when firing someone or even not hiring them. Like you (topic starter) said that it gives applicants a chance to improve on whats lacking, also in that way employers can in a way, when questioned (hardly ever -- in hiring others), give a good reason for not hiring people.

I think this two weeks notice should be extended (for teachers its 1 term notice that they have to give ) for normal employment as well. Think of it practically, are two weeks enough to look for another job when the unemployment rates are so high? it takes longer than 2 months (at least) to find a job... how are people supposed to manage during that time? 😕
