Afghans have historically always been known to be ferocious warriors with supreme guerilla tactics. In addition, the harsh climate and rugged terrain of their country has always given them great advantage over enemy forces. This is why the battle was tough for Alexander, and what makes his victory all the more praiseworthy. He was one of the few military commanders to have ever conquered the Afghan lands and people.
