Avinash's second innings!
21 Feb 2008, 0000 hrs IST,TNN

"When producer Rajan Shahi offered me the role of Indrajeet Rajvansh I immediately accepted it."

Isn't this the first time you are playing father to grownups? Were you apprehensive initially about taking up this role in Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai?

Although it's a father's role, it has a lot of shades and is a very powerful character. I'm thoroughly enjoying playing it. I have realised if I have to make a mark as a successful TV actor, I'll have to go by the importance and strength of the role rather than calculate the age of the character. There are enough of cameos and episodic stories where I can still play younger roles matching my age. For men on TV, roles are written either for the son's character or the father. Even strong negative roles are given to women. So,what option does a 35+ actor like me have on TV? The irony is that Indian audiences accept a 45+ actor romancing a 20+ actress in movies and on TV they expect a 28-year-old actor to play father to a 20-year old!

Isn't there too much insecurity in the acting profession?

Well, I don't think any job on earth gives you total security. The least would be in our acting profession where most don't know what
they're doing after six months. Maintaining a certain standard of life is no joke.
So 'I live life on my terms' has become a passe statement. In India, a self-made actor should deliver a hit from day one or else he is unceremoniously shown the door.

You are doing regional movies too...

My two regional films, Mahamaya which is a Bhojpuri flick and Watnaa Ton Door, a Punjabi film, are both ready for release anytime now. South star Kushboo is playing my chachi in Mahamaya and I'm opposite two heroines. The film also stars Rati Agnihotri, Asrani and Milind Gunaji. Watnaa Ton Door which was majorly shot in Mauritius is a musical emotional thriller.

On the personal front, you seem at peace and very happy post your remarriage...

Every man, at the end of the day, wants to come back home to somebody who is waiting for him and I'm happy to have found that somebody. Yes, Natasha and I are very happy. We understand each other and we both believe that relationships have to be nurtured well for their healthy growth. Love can bring two individuals together initially, but it is the faith, honesty, respect, care and above all companionship which makes it everlasting. We hope and pray that we never lose out on these ethics.
