This week will see the clash of the superhero film Bhavesh Joshi Superhero and the chick flick Veere Di Wedding. Although it is a clash as both release on the same day they can easily co - exist as both films will get the screen space needed. If there is a problem than that will be Parmanu - The Story Of Pokhran which could act like a new release as far as Bhavesh Joshi Superhero and Veere Di Wedding is concerned.
The problem with Bhavesh Joshi is the director who has made three films Udaan, Lootera and Trapped and all were huge flops so in reality a fourth film should not be as the results have been bit of a disaster till now.. Udaan and Trapped grossed around 3 crore nett and a cast film like Lootera did just 28 crore nett. Not only were these film totally rejected in theaters but were so bad that satellite channels hardly screened them post theatrical release which makes sure that there is no existence of these films as far as the audience is concerned. Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is dependent on the content which a superhero should not be and and on top because of the directors past record its hard to be confident of the content.
The chick flick Veere Di Wedding is a better bet than Bhavesh Joshi Superhero but that is not saying much. It has advantage of a HIT song in Tareefan but visually its not impressive as its been filmed in video format rather than like a song for a feature film. This could help it get some weekend collections but the trailer is full of profanities which hardly work in India.
There have been those rural films like Omkara and Begum Jaan with the bad language and they were poor films but the expletive language was also a reason the audience stayed away. Now here this urban film is looking to get away with the profanities even though there is no need for them and they looked forced. The relatability of the characters also looks a problem for most the country especially ladies audience who seem to be the target. There are urban films which appeal to cities like Mumbai and Delhi but this film goes a step further to relate to an even more niche audience which will be English speaking crowds in maybe South Mumbai or South Delhi.
The film could have a big problem due to the limited relatability and profanities that it could be a tough task to sustain as families keep away. Also if the film was about young girls it may have excited the youth but this is about middle aged woman which could leave it nowhere. It could be Parmanu - The Story Of Pokhran which could compete this weekend as that film has some appreciation and is more Indian at heart than the two new releases this week.
@bold - What are they smoking now? Udaan, Lootera, Trapped are great films
