While promoting her upcoming release, Veere Di Wedding, Sonam spoke candidly on how the current A-List actors tends to stay away from female-oriented movies.

Sonam said, "We don't have A-list heroes in our industry who agree to do good films like Raazi, Neerja, Raanjhanaa (2013), Khoobsurat or even a Veere Di Wedding. No one said yes. I don't think they have the confidence to do that. My father (Anil Kapoor) did films like Beta (1992) with Madhuri Dixit and Laadla (1994) with Sridevi, but I haven't seen anyone do that. He's a different kind of person. He raised me to be a feminist. When I came into the industry, I was shocked with the way things were. I was raised very differently. My parents never made me believe that I was any different from my brother. When I came here, I saw we were not paid the same amount as the hero, and not given the same kind of rooms as the leading man. People had that Woh hero hai' mentality. In the 11 years that I have been around, things have changed, yet there is a lot of change that needs to happen."

Talking about breaking the typical stereotypes actresses have to endure and making a change in that paticular sense of thinking, Sonam continued, "It's important for women to own up to what they like and don't like without the fear of being judged. Look, a lot happens around us because of our general conditioning. We ask a woman if she's slowing down after marriage or having babies. Do we ask a man that? Look at Kareena! We come from different schools of filmmaking, but I respect the fact that she started out in the early 2000s and has done an array of work, including films like Chameli (2003) and Ki & Ka (2016). She's worked like crazy even after marriage and having a baby. We didn't ask Shahid Kapoor if his life slowed down because of marriage or babies. I went to Cannes immediately after my wedding, which was just an extension of my state of mind."

Meanwhile, Veere Di Wedding also stars Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhasker and Shikha Talsania. Directed by Shashanka Ghosh, Veere Di Wedding is slated to release on June 1, 2018.

An it doesn't take some brave soul to do a film about a deaf, blind and mute person sitting in a room contemplating the meaning of life. It's just that shit is boring 😆

Why wouldn't they? Aisa bhi koi OMG-So-New factor nahi movie mein. It's a regular chick flick.

How does it make sense for a Gauri or Kajol to go out and work right after delivery and let SRK and Ajay stay home, bottle-feed the newborns?

And im sure Sridevi Madhuri Ash Katrina didn't get put into worse rooms than jeetendra, SRK, Aamir, Akshay.

Even for a corporate it's the ceos and those with most responsibilities, workload who get the best salary, perks. And they have the toughest jobs.

Anyway, can't imagine A Lister in veere. SRK did madz a favour starred with salman and her in hum tumare hain sanam with madz as pivotal role, and what a disaster. Same with juhi in ek ka four do or something. Can't imagine even Vicky kaushal in it.

Anybody saying there is no "woh hero hai' mentality is blatantly lying to themselves. Yes, the situation is a lot better today, but back in the day, aside from maybe Madhuri or Sridevi who were superstars in their own right, I can't see any of the actresses being treated as equal to their hero despite being at the peak of their careers. And that mentality runs more or less today, too. Yes, there is the factor of heroes like Varun and tiger such delivering huge blockbusters and successful films getting treated better in terms of pay and stature, but for majority of the young guns I can't see any reason for there to be such disparity in the mentality. And from what I have observed that mentality definitely runs as an undercurrent in the film industry. Though I have to give credit to the new generation of actresses who are standing firm in their stance to acquire equal pay/equal treatment. And yes, the road is still long running, but at least they have started down that path and hopefully in the near future, we can come to that reality of actors/actresses of equal stature who have delivered equally successful films get the same equal due also in terms of pay!

On a side note, from whatever Sonam has said and all that I have observed of Anil recently in her wedding, he is a stellar man! To support his daughter financially so unconditionally when most men are only willing to give financial support to their boys, it is truly a heartwarming and inspirational thing to see.

Why would a Lister do vdw , raazi , neerja where there is nothing to do for them.

Don't know about ranjhana since that's hero driven movie.

As for khoobsurat ,pol jus dont want to get in rhea Sonam Kapoor movies since abhay had terrible experience with them in aisha where anil was complaining about him in media shamefully.

She obviously meant male A Listers. So pls don't criticize just coz it's Sonam.

And she is right..none of the recent female oriented movies have A list actors opposite the female lead ..TWM, Piku, Neerja, Khoobsurat, Kahaani, Tumhari Sulu..none.

Whether they r approached or not..I don't know.
