THESE are the kind of stories your diarist can, erm, dine on for days. So, there's this dapper young man, the son of famous parents, who has recently started his own luxury business. Some weeks ago the said gent walked into one of central Mumbai's finest restaurants with his foreign guests for a feast fit for kings. The lavish meal, running into several courses, was served and the restaurant presented the bill which, shall we say, was upwards of a lakh. The staff was told to send it to the young man's office where it would be settled. Since restaurants sometimes do this with wellknown patrons, no one thought there was anything untoward about this request. But then days passed, then weeks, emails and telephone calls went unanswered. Finally, the restaurant management was told to send the bill to Daddy, a formidable figure in the hospitality circles. Well, suffice to say, the management is still waiting.
